I'll probaly get mocked for some of my choices but whatever.

1.Harry Potter-It's the best plain and simple
2.Naruto-Been reading it since it was introduced into USA so I also read fanfics
3.House-I have a thing for sappy Cameron/House romance
4.X-Men-I have always hated that the comics never let Storm.Logan happen.
5.Power Rangers-It's my guilty pleasure always has been and will always be that way.

    1) Potter -- Of course. I wouldn't bother writing fanfiction for it if I didn't love the universe.
    2) Cowboy Bebop -- The action was amazing and the sheer style points almost gave it the win. A few good fics I've read that I've since lost the links to help a hell of a lot.
    3) Gaiman (American Gods/Anansi Boys universe) -- American Gods is quite possibly my favorite book ever, and the universe is just incredibly rich. Sad that it's a rather small fandom.
    4) Firefly -- It's odd. I don't like Buffy or Angel, but I fucking love Firefly. Kaylee does play a large part in this, yes. So does Nonjon's fic. :p
    5) Unknown Armies -- Considering the entire fandom is about 200 odd people, this really doesn't qualify. But damnit, the source material kicks ass and the handful of stories written by the fans kick ass.

Is it a necro to post in a thread more than a month old ? I don't know a lot about what you can consider necro... anyway to post something relevént to the thread :

    1) Stargate : I just love Sci-fi so much that it is before HP in my book and that's one of the greatest Science fiction work.

    2) Harry Potter : nothing to say, a great and easy universe until book 6

    3) Perry Rhodan : Don't know if many people know of that but it's a German science fiction serie that start in 1971 and is currently around year 4300, publied since around 1960, over 30 great parts, currently reading the eight (being actually translated in French, I don't know German and I would learn it just for that). It's enormous, the whole universe is explained, it's origin, the higher powers, it's so detailed... I don't think there is much fanfiction, there is so much in canon... Anyway, the fact that the translation in French are slow and way behind the story in German is the reason it isn't the first of my list

    4) Wheel of Time / Lord of the Rings : while WoT isn't quite on Tolkien level IMO, they have the same priority in my head

    5) Star Wars : science fiction again, I couldn't avoid Star Wars, one of the greatest universe... (though smaller than Perry Rhodan's)

    1. Harry Potter - ip82 said it better than I could on page 1

    2. Ranma 1/2 - this was my first true fandom love. It is what got me into fanfiction about 9 years ago. For the most part, the quality of Ranma fics are really high. There are some trully epic Ranma fics.

    3. Final Fantasy VII - This is really geekish, but there are some great FFVII fics out there. You have to wade through tons of crap like in HP, but if you look hard enough you will strike gold eventually.

    4. Tenchi Muyo - This is probably the second series that had me obsessed. I have read tons Tenchi fics, and like Ranma, they're mostly high quality.

    5. Combination Bleach/Dragonlance - Besides the first four that I mentioned, I don't really read other fanfics, but I've come across a few good Bleach and Dragonlance fics. Bleach has massive potential but obviously it's probably not even close to being finished so we will have to wait and see. I really would like to see more Dragonlance fics as I feel the series is very underrated.

I don't really read SW fanfiction (Only read 10 or so stories), but am a big fan of the Expanded Universe and read many SW books.

    Stargate
What can I say, I'm a big science fiction fan. My favorite TV series, although we in Germany are usually a season behind. I don't read as much fanfiction of Stargate as of HP, but it makes for good crossovers.

    Harry Potter
I'm on this site here everyday (even if I'm only posting very rarely these days) so I'm obviously a huge fan. I guess the sheer potential of the HP world and magic intrigues me and makes me read a lot of fanfiction.

    Naruto
Far from my favorite anime (I don't really like the anime anymore, though I do read the manga) but as in HP, the Naruto world has a shitload of potential. So much in fact, that I read nearly as much Naruto as HP fanfiction.

    Lord of the Rings

I don't read much LotR fanfiction (Mostly crossovers), but I really love the world Tolkien created. So much in fact, that I bought severaly other books from Tolkien.

Guess I should update this a bit, since my tastes have changed since the last post.

Pure book/manga/tv show itself would be (in order):

    1) Discworld - Reasons already mentioned... several times.
    2) Dresden Files - My new favourite series (under Discworld of course), much better than HP ever was. Just need to wait for the fandom to catch up now.
    3) Lord of the Rings - Do I really need a reason for this?
    4) His Dark Materials - Just finished the series a few weeks back, the novelty hasn't worn off yet.
    5) Stargate - It could have been drawn with Top Gear, but TG ain't really the kind of show you obsess over... unless you're a car fanatic. And I've already mentioned my love of Stargate.
    6) Bleach/Naruto - Cause they deserve an honorary mention...

Fandoms... are a little more difficult.

    1) Harry Potter - For obvious reasons.
    2) Naruto - Amazing potential, comparable to the HP world. The characters themselves are great for fanfiction writers to use, and it has a decent enough plot, even if Kishimoto is fucking it all up. Also perverted, toad-sage hermits rock!
    3) Dresden Files - Not much going on here, that I know of, but nuhuh, Shezza and Vash's fics are great.
    4) Bleach - For lack of anything else I can think of. I can barely remember the fics I have read, makes for an alright crossover though... sort of.
    5) Stargate - Haven't read any Stargate fics in months, but there's nothing else I read so it's here.

    1. Harry Potter - Harry Potter is what got me into fanfiction in the first place. I love the characters, mainly Lord Voldemort and Sirius Black, the settings, and the magical feel the first four books had. Although, when I read Harry Potter fanfiction, I usually read PostOotP stories because that is where the best stories are able to be told.

    2. Stargate - This is the only sci-fi show I never tire of. I love the characterizations of the characters, the vastness of the universe(s), the many races, the technology, the villians, etc. Although when Jack left, the show went downhill, it was still watchable. The fics I read all usually set from seasons 1-8. I am a sucker for the Daniel/Sam pairing.

    3. Supernnatural - The show is pure awesome. It mostly doesn't translate this awesomeness well to fanfiction. The fanfiction community is overrun with slashers, which is scary because the main characters of the show are two brothers. The term for that pairing is Wincest and I really don't understand it.. There are a lot of worthy stories out there though. I like the stories that have the Yellow-Eyed Demon in them, stories that concern the Human/Demon war, and stories that show the Winchester brothers' relationship properly.

    4. Death Note - I love the manga moreso than the anime. I don't read much fanfiction of this because it's nearly all slash. But I do read the alternate endings.

    5. Comics - I read all sorts of comics, I'm not picky. The fanfiction I read is usually Batman, Superman, or the X-Men. These are interestingg characters that good writers draw me into and make me feel for in their stories.

Someone who knows Perry Rhodan? Very Good. I'm addicted since I was 12. I've got 64 Hardcover Books here - all around 400 pages. And there are plenty more. (Just to give you an idea.) You can see why there is no fanfiction - you need a lifetime just to read canon.

My Fandoms in no particular order:

    1. Harry Potter

    2. Perry Rhodan (see above)

    3. Firefly - Not much good Fanfiction and sadly even Nonjon's fic isn't my piece of cake.

    4. The Dresden Files - Most people here know it and the good Hp-crossovers. (*looks at sig*)

    5. Farscape - Just one of the very best Sci Fi ever.

On a sidenote: Has anyone looked at the Stargate: Atlantis fandom? There's much fanfiction but 90 percent of it is angsty and crap. Why?

Naruto- I've read a lot of manga, but Naruto is the only one that has truly captured my attention to the point that I read fanfiction for it. Though, lately the manga has been a giant let down.

Harry Potter- Was really the first book that I read seriously. Before that I read because we had to for school. Potter was the first book I read because I wanted to. After that I found myself reading a shit load of books, nowadays I have over 200 books on my book selves.

Bleach- I enjoy Bleach just as much as Naruto, but I don't think that the world that Kubo made is as...enjoyable as the Naruto one. The Gotei 13 is probably my most favorite part of Bleach.

Vagabond- a manga about the fictional retelling of a man named Miyamoto Musashi who would go on to be considered the greatest swordsman who ever lived. The art and story is just simply phenomenal, Musashi is without a doubt one of the most bad ass characters around.

Samurai X- the movie version. I didn't like Rurouni Kenshin so much. But the movie was amazing. Great fight scenes, characters visual graphics the works.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and bump this, since it's still a good question imo.

In terms of favorite fandom, referring to fanfiction and/or my willingness to discuss it with other fans. . .

    1. Naruto - Naruto is the fandom with the most fics in my current favorites. I don't watch the anime, and I'm only following the manga because I feel in too deep to quit without feeling like I wasted X amount of my life without finishing what I started, but also because I want to know what's going on in new fanfiction I read.

    2. Harry Potter - I didn't start reading the series until after the fourth book came out and I didn't start reading the fanfiction until after the fifth, so when I started HP fanfiction it wasn't hard to find entertaining stories. It's harder now, but with sites like DLP, I can stay on top of any potential.

    3. Code Geass - The series ended two years ago and the fandom is small in terms of fanfiction, even smaller when you don't like slash, so it's tough to find much quality nowadays. However, I still search and I pop into AnimeSuki to view discussions and [Lelouch/Kallen] fanart and whatnow occasionally.

    4. Pokemon - Thanks a lot, Poké Wars: The Subsistence & The Sun Soul

    5. Inuyasha - Like many others, I got into fanfiction due to Inuyasha, and I spent my first year reading primarily Inuyasha and Naruto. Inuyasha/Sango still has a place in my favorites/alerts if I happen to find a good one (haven't in about two years).

Honorable Mentions: Broken Blade, Bleach, Bakemonogatari, Cross Game, DC/Marvel, The USA Network family of Originals, & The Boondocks.

    Hmm, interesting question really.

    I don't have 5, but here's what I have.

Harry Potter - Overall favorite, simply due to the amount of quality fics.

Dresden - Rates a mention just because of LC tbh.

Buffy - Some really enjoyable stuff to read in here, not a huge amount however.

Stargate - Again, few fics that are truly enjoyable. Most of it's shit however.

The rest is all these small fandoms that have one or two fics I really like, such as Doctor Who, Firefly etc.

Disclaimer: I interpreted the word 'fandom' in the context of fanfiction solely.

For my top five I've listed them in the order that I've gotten into the fandom:

    1. Ranma - This was the second fandom I started reading fanfiction in. The reason I still read it is that you can cross it with nearly every Japanese fandom there is (not Naruto. Naruto xovers emphasize on the suck.)

    2. Harry Potter - After reading the first few HP books I got bored of the series. It wasn't until I started following favorite lists on ff.net that I got into the HP fandom.

    3. Buffy - This show can cross-over with every genre - especially thanks to those damn Halloween fics. Oodles and oodles of quality fics to read - and with the diverse cast I'm sure there's something for everyone.

    4. Chuck - This is a niche fandom that's really fun to read. With the double-lives of the characters and the ridiculous coincidences that are canon, while the fandom is small it does have a solid core of fun fanfics.

    5. NCIS - This fandom is frustrating because while the show blows after Season 3, it somehow has created the best crime fanfics I've read.

With the games, the EU books, the various TV shows and the movies - the universe is huge. The possible number of ideas are limitless, and Palpatine from the prequels is possibly the most amazing villain ever :awesome

    2. Harry Potter

    3. Naruto

    4. Dresden Files

    5. Firefly

Whoah, my tastes have changed a bit since I've last posted here. Also, either I was very posh and repressed when I first started posting on DLP or I've gotten really redneck from living down south in the States. :(

Don't have a Top Five anymore, but these are my current fandoms:

Harry Potter - Not going anywhere anytime soon, but I hardly venture outside of DLP these days unless its something new and unusual. And yes, I will fucking well finish writing my stories. /gnashes teeth

X-Files - My very first fandom. I'm still attached despite the lack of updates and new blood. I pretty much cut my writing teeth on this series; I wrote a 93 chapter epic on alien tentacle!porn when I was fourteen. Lost that story many, many unfortunate hard drive crashes ago - I still feel a little nostalgic about that one. I downloaded the first season of X-Files last week and yep, Gillian Anderson still has it.

Dresden - We're twelve books in and twelve books to go. There's always time for this fandom to grow - especially if more like Brownish join in.

Supernatural - I have to filter through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff, but it's there. I could do without the crazy!fail this fandom likes to pull though.

I drift through a few others such as Naruto, Firefly, Dark Angel, House, Criminal Minds and anything by Gaiman, but other than that I haven't found much worth getting invested in as of late. I'm interested in recommendations if anyone has come across something special.

    1. Dresden. Butcher's universe is so incredibly rich, and even though the fandom is small, there is a high percentage of truly awesome work.

    2. Star Wars. Another very rich 'verse, with lots of room for cool ideas and a fairly high number of good authors. The only reason it's not #1 is because of the deluge of Anakin/Padme fluff (which I see as basically the SW version of Harry/Ginny) that you have to wade through to find the good stuff. I'm currently considering writing a fic where Anakin ends up ditching her and running off with Ventress or someone equally unlikely, just to spite all those fuckers who'll write 100,000+ word fics about how they're just destined for each other.

    3. Potter. For obvious reasons. I wouldn't be a member here if it wasn't in my top five.

    4. Stargate. Mainly for the crossover potential. Plenty of really cool ones out there.

    5. Warhammer 40k. If you ever need an escape from all the fluffy/angsty bullshit in other fandoms, it's hard to go wrong with this one.

    In no particular order :

-Dresden. The HP/Dresden crossovers we have here are pretty awesome. But like Ellisande, I'd say LittleChicago is the reason Dresden fandom gets a mention.

    -Harry Potter. Pretty self-explanatory.

-Buffy. I've read a few good fics in this fandom, though I really only like the first 3 seasons of the show.

-Star Wars. I've been a SW fanboy most of my life, and I've read some of the expanded universe. I have next to no interest in anything before Yavin, so that limits my choice quite a bit, but quality fics can be found.

-Lord of the Rings, though I haven't read too much fanfiction of it. Canon work is certainly sufficient.

Naruto and NGE are really my only two 'constant' fandoms at this point. I'll generally look for stuff on whatever media (book, movie, video game, etc.) I happen to be using at any given point in time, but I'll quickly lose interest in that when I move on to something else.

Lost interest in Potter a long, long time ago.
