I was expecting the flashback to end, but I guess we're going to be getting a bit more information.

Not bad, but not great. I'd really like to get back to the crew at some point, but I know everything that's going on now is going to be incredibly crucial at some point.

I think the Anime is currently running the backstories of the crew. I don't really remember if it was shown in the manga though.

 

Ah, I haven't been keeping up with the anime updates lately. It looks like they're doing more on the Cover Stories that Oda put in about the crew members. He didn't exactly make whole manga chapters about them, but instead just put a single picture in each chapter showing a snapshot of what the crew was doing.

The anime is just expanding on that instead of doing more filler episodes.

 

Is the anime considered canon then or is it like Naruto which means the filler are just that, filler?

 

It is like nearly all manga with anime based on it. What ever was released first be it manga, anime or novel is the top canon and will have final say. If something is introduced in the anime and is not contradiction of anything said in manga it can be thought of as canon. This is mostly contained to backstory or side characters. If the manga or novel was a oneshot and then had a series or just OVA's based off it that went longer the additions can be thought of as canon.

Long story is go to what ever came out first and general rule is any anime filler that is not referenced first in top canon is filler but if it was referenced but never expanded anymore it's sidestory but can still be called canon.

The flashback is finally over. Sabo is dead and Luffy faces that bitter truth.

 

Pretty unexpected ending imo. Luffy has always been so optimistic throughout so it'll be interesting to see what happens from here on out.

I have a feeling that the crew is coming back. A lot of people have their sights set on chapter 600, but I can't help but wonder if it's coming even sooner than that.

This chapter was awesome. I don't know how Oda managed to do it, but showing Franky (the "American") giving a thumbs up while a nuclear explosion goes on below him just makes me lol.

Eh, the way everyone conveniently landed on an island that fit their combat style and allowed easy power-ups was annoying.

 

It is like Kuma wanted them to get stronger. :awesome

 

But not nearly as annoying as the thousands of other ways manga characters get power-ups. I don't mind it how it turned out, especially with how tongue-in-cheek One Piece is.

Kuma sent them to these places on purpose, knowing where they'd need to go in order to get stronger.

 

I fail to see how a obese Usopp can be seen as stronger. :/

 

He'll get there, Oda has a plan for it. We saw in the previous chapter that he's gotten the motivation to get back to Luffy and be a part of the crew again, and I doubt we've seen everything regarding his growth.

 

I doubt that Usopp will ever be strong, in the same sense as Luffy and Zoro are. Meh, I hate him, really.
