    Yippie!
I like the idea that the non-benders are revolting.
    I hope it's good.

Oh hell yeah. Looks like they aren't going to just repeat all the old stuff with a new cast either.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the whole industrial setting... And the name 'Republic City' is really blunt.

One of their biggest demographs are the under 11's. They have to be blunt with some things.

There will probably the invention of guns and the like, which the non-benders will use to fight against the benders. I am really looking forward to this. How old do you guys think the new Avatar will be? It took Avatar Roku three-four years for each element to master them and he started at sixteen (or was it fifteen?). If they continue with the old cycle with telling the avatar when she is that age and she has already mastered two further elements than she should be in her early twenties, right?

I'm... not as excited by the prospect of a new Avatar series, let alone one that takes place 70 years after the conclusion of the first series. I think the ending of the first series was great and felt final. If anything needed to be added to the ending at all, perhaps a small OVA to tie up various loose threads - where the heck is Ursa? - would be needed.

I just don't think Avatar needed a sequel and it's probably a better series without one. I don't know. Perhaps if this new show is good enough, that may be enough.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that she's going to be in her mid-teens. Aang was what, 11 or 12? I'm betting on 15 or 16 for this one, so about the age Sokka was.

It might be a bit younger than she should be considering her talents, but maybe she's going to be some kind of prodigy. Besides, it's harder to get kids to identify with "adults" than with teenagers and kids are still the primary targeted demographic.

Roku might have taken a lot longer to master everything but Aang had done it younger than this girl is likely to be, so it's not like there is no precedent. Though of course Aang was a special case.

I don't think it needed a sequel but I think they are doing this right. They aren't having it start Aang, Katara, Sokka, or any of the old crew as far as I can tell. That's usually where sequels fail the most in my opinion. They're changing the cast and type of main character, they're changing the setting (big city), the story style (one place, not a road trip), and probably some other things.

I think they're going to do the right kind of sequel, but I guess only time will tell.

I sure agree I don't want to see more story about Aang & co. Anything from that would just be a let down I bet.

I wouldn't have minded a direct sequel, but you guys are right, those would have been almost certainly been worse than the original. I am really looking forward for this.

I thought every Avatar was a prodigy? It seems to be part of the deal. But well, won't complain about this one. It is after all the first Avatar after Aang so it can't be expected to gone back to normal already.

I wonder how many of the old cast we will meet. Surely we can cross out Aang, Bumi and Iroh, but maybe Zuko, Katara, Toph and the like should still be around and appear now and then.

Also I hope they will explore the relationships between the nations. There might be peace but there should still be some kind of edge between Fire Nation and the rest.

And the Air Nomads, so what, did Aang knock up a ton of women or did they find numerous Airbenders around the world who had been hiding their talents?

Or did nature balance that out by having a sudden, unexplained boom in air bender kids?

Would be nice if they explored the left over themes of the first show.

Hm, not in the sense that I meant. They might all be special because they can bend all the elements instead of just one, but that, as you say, is part of the deal.

What I meant was that normally you might expect it to take them into adulthood to learn to control all four elements. It seems to have taken Roku that long and nothing was ever said to imply that he was slow about it.

Aang had mastered all 4 elements at 12 instead of, say, 20. That's what I meant by him being a prodigy.

As for the Air Nomads, I'm guessing it's some of everything. Aang probably found people with the talent that were hiding or didn't realize they had the ability, plus an upsurge in kids with the skill, and trained them all before he died.

My take on what little info is available:
Korra is from the Southern Water tribe and by the time of the series is sixteen and in relative command of water, earth and fire. She goes to Republic city to find Tenzin, the 70-year-old son of Aang and Katara, and likely the only person with first-hand experience with airbending (he may be an airbender, or maybe he's just the only one who can teach her, like Li and Lo taught Azula despite not being firebenders).

The makers have hinted that there will be flashbacks to the original characters and possible reappearances, but the focus will be on Korra and the struggle to fight back the rising anti-bending bias (is that bendism?) which is no doubt a subtle plot by some as-yet-unrevealed villain. Korra, who is described as strong-willed and short-tempered (a bit unusual for water tribe) will likely have to prove the value of benders to the population by learning to be an example for everyone.

My concern is that Korra seems to be a melding of all the favorite characters' traits- Zuko's passion, Toph's forcefullness, Katara's righteous hotness and Sokka's sarcasm. My hope is that the secondary characters are as well-nuanced.

My theory was always that there are latent airbenders or untrained ones. I alwys thought Ty Lee had some Airbender blood in her considering the kind of acrobatic shit she can pull.

I foresee steam PUNK in its future.

I have to admit, Part of avatars greatness was the exploration of the world. If this avatar is now some kind of vigilante metropolis super hero type who doesn't take part in more worldy concerns its like they've drasticly diminished the role.

I want to know in this new age what wonders still exist, are their mistical forces left to explore, is there any hope for the magical world of before or is it all vanishing for technology.

I don't mind a central location but it feels like teenage mutant ninja turtles to me. Everything they need is within the city, their foes are the same old same old. Their biggest concern is not learning about different facet of society so much as finding a way to fit into the world as is.

    Edit:

While realisticly I think the air nomads are dead and gone and the only way to continue the cycle is with Aangs decendents... I theorize dark Air nomads. The Bad Monks

Kind of like the alternate water benders in the swamp but now evil air nomads who have hidden away from the world.

Or atleast that would be awesome.

No need to cross out Aang. He had plenty of conversations with Roku and I am sure Korra will need his help and advice sometimes too.

I lol at the idea of Aang as a wise old mentor.

I advocate a Korra/Tenzin pairing. Imagine...Korra and Tenzin are having sex, and suddenly Aang takes over Korra in a spirit state (like Roku took over Aang when they were in the fire temple). Instant lulz.

Unless Aang and Katara had Tenzin much later in their lives, he's probably hovering somewhere around middle-age by the time this series starts.

So... a romance between him and Korra seems unlikely. But we don't really know his age yet, so I could be wrong.

Well, Korra could always be into older men.

There can't be a new avatar unless the old one is dead.

Edit: nevermind. You're talking about Tenzin, not Aang.

I misunderstood it that way too, but I think he means discussing things with him in the spirit word, like with Roku.
