    Knowing is half the battle.

In case Seratin's clever remark didn't make it clear...

Weary = tired, worn out, exhausted, or alternately, fed up.

"I grow weary of this bullshit."

Keeping watch at the door all night left him feeling weary.

    Wary = watchful, cautious, suspicious.

"I am wary of dropping the soap because my dorm mates are slash fans."

This has been another fun-filled installment of

"Shit You Should Already Know!" :awesome

An idea I've had for while now is the second resurrection of Voldemort. Post-DH

It pretty much begins with the epilogue, except instead of "His scar never hurt again" or whatever the quote was, its more like "I tire of your pathetic dreams Harry.". Harry is forced awake by a newly risen Lord Voldemort.

The premise behind this chain of event is that Voldemort found out about the Horcrux hunt by the Trio in DH and took further measures to secure his immortality, i.e. bargains with eldritch beings from another plane of existence. So when he dies at the end of Book 7, he bursts into flames and they see his wraith rise from his body before his spirit is seemingly ripped apart. The rest of the wizards play it off as a side effect of whatever magicks and rituals had changed his body with, and not as a sign that he hadn't truly died.

The years pass and through a strange series of events that I haven't quite thought through yet, Harry Potter, soon to be father and badass auror is assigned to investigate a several disappearances of former death eaters and uncovers the fact that all of them had been in correspondence with one Draco Malfoy before their disappearance. Turns out that Draco had his mind tampered with by Voldemort before his death, with a single goal implanted into his mind, ensure that Lord Voldemort rises once more. So Draco has actually been collecting information on how to resurrect the Dark Lord, whilst playing husband to Astoria and generally acting like a sane citizen. He discovers a muggle cult dedicated to the very same deities that Voldemort had bargained with and through them discover the means to bring his soul back from wherever it went.

Cue Harry, who raids Malfoy Manor and discovers nothing (and maybe gets rather personal with the lonely Astoria), is told that the pregnant Ginny has vanished. Harry's search for his Wife and Malfoy lead to him discovering Theodore Nott holed up in hovel in Muggle London, who enlightens him about the planned resurrection after some 'convincing' by Harry. But as he leaves to disapparate, a ward snaps down and Harry has to fight the death eaters, who have all been brainwashed and single mindedly attack Harry and capture him.

He wakes up, bound, and is forced to to watch as Ginny is dissected by Draco who removes the dead fetus that could've been James Potter Jr. and uses it as a reagent for Voldemort's new body. Harry at this point has gotten one hand free and is about to murder Draco with his bare hands when he blacks out in pain from his scar, Voldemort rises again.

-I've got weirder ideas as to how this continues, but most of them involved Harry being sent to take the place of Voldemort in whatever world Voldemort was sent to maintain the "balance" between the dimensions. Essentially it boiled down to Harry desperately looking for a way back to have his vengeance, all the while fighting fey creatures, a race of serpent men, and other strange alien monstrosities, as well as the degenerate race of wizards who lived in this "Other Earth".

I'd read this too. The idea is definitely unique. It'll depend on how you execute it. Written as a noir story with Harry racing against time and criminals, Death Eaters and fey creatures to stop the resurrection of the Dark Lord and save his wife, it'd be a good read.

I like that idea Cannonfodder. Johnny ninja'd me, because I was gonna say it would go well as a noir :(

Back to Lord Anarchy's plot bunnies; I read the first, and though I think it sucks, it could totally be done well. The third one however has problems.

From the first all the way to the second book, everything seems to be planned out to happen exactly like a few thousand other 'Harry Potter different childhood' stories. Early magic? Check. Ravenclaw? Check. Nobody knows he's Harry Potter but they still distrust him? Check.

I stopped reading at the second year, because although I know it probably gets better, I wouldn't care at all to read that manipulative Dumbledore you have there. The Blacks are just another dark-aligned family; why in the world would Dumbledore have any reason to fight the emancipation of one, especially one who is not in Slytherin?

Why would Harry be emancipated, anyway? You'd think that after everyone he's related to (conveniently) dies, he'd become a ward of the Ministry. Realistically, there are very few emancipated orphans compared to the amount of children who live in orphanages. It just wouldn't make sense.

I could continue trying to cut at the plot of this, but I don't want to. I want to believe it could become a well-fleshed out, believable story.

I had a couple more ideas for the framework of the story, but it were ro be written a noir crime thriller it would need to quickly change to a more epic theme because
    1. Call me petty, but I wanted Ginny dead and
    2. I wanted Harry to have to fight inhuman monstrosities which typically don't fit in a noir setting.

That aside I had a couple more ideas involving the beings that Voldemort bargained with for example: when his soul was ressurected I figured some minor servitor of his gods was bound to it, in doing so I wanted to develop the idea that Voldemort is actually trying to keep the world from being devoured by the serpent god-thing. So while he tries to escape death he is also forced to fight to contain whatever monster that inhabits his own soul.

The "Other Earth" idea I had dealt with the creation of magic and I really was inspired by Joe and Enembee with what they had imagined in Wastelands and By The Divining Light as well as Hellboy comics. The Other Earth would be a leftover creation by the prehistoric god wizards who had sundered away much the old magic of the world to create their own alternate dimension. Over time, they forgot their magics and degenerated into a race
of mole men who tended to the massive underground realm in the other earth yet still keep the secrets of Old Magic, which would function much like Words of the Worlds in Shezza's denarian series, while still being different in their own right.

Hary would be banished to the OTher Earth by Voldemort and would be tortured by the serpent men that had saved Voldemort's soul and Harry would escape from an attempt to sacrifice him to the Serpent god. Eventually he would discover the Old Magic and use it force his way back normal earth, where he finds that Voldemort has once again taken control of Britain and is preparing to conquer the mainland and thanks to Harry changing the ordering of the worlds, he can summon evils from the Other Earth which Harry has to deal with in his quest to now right the world and kill Voldemort.

Why not B4? He gets estranged from his normal group of friends... Ginny could even try and befriend him (yes mock the crap out of all those soul bond + h/g fics for bonus lulz), and through her, meets Luna, whom helps him deal with being unpopular at school.

Sticking with canonish characters from Ravenclaw?
They strike me as the popularist, fan-girl-ish types to me...
So he could end up with a BBF-harem with flirting and bitchiness abounds

B4 is too big. A4 is okay, but being American, I prefer 8.5"x11".

Oh, you're not talking about paper size. >_>

We've all read stories where Harry is "Treated worse then a Malfoy House-Elf" by the Dursleys...

But has there ever been a fic where Harry actually is a House-Elf, under orders to assume the identity of Harry Potter (who doesn't actually exist and never has), in order to protect the actual prophecy guy Neville Longbottom?
Ordered to also erase their own memories of ever being an elf and to maintain a human appearance, without realising it?

Bit far fetched, but I think it could be a fun little fic.

There's actually a fic similar to that (without the house elf thing) where he's himself merely a construct. I can't remember the title, although I know its either been reviewed or at least talked about elsewhere on DLP.

That's one of the oddest ideas I've seen, and that's saying something. And no HouseElf!Harry story would be complete unless it ended up Harry/Winky. Certainly, that would happen only after HouseElf!Harry had fucked any number of the canon witches, who of course would be mortified to the point of suicide upon finding out they'd been to his Come-and-Go Room (rim shot!)

Neville: Wat? You mean I'm the BWL? WTF?
Harry: Yeah, what he said, check out the scar.
Dumbledore: LOL. Abraca-Pocus! Remember anything, "Harry"?
Harry: Hobby is a bad elf! Hobby has been a very bad elf with many many witches!
    Dumbledore: ...
Neville: Wat? Wait, you said something about a prophecy? FML.
Harry: ...bad elf... bad, bad elf... Hobby will have to iron his donker...
Dumbledore: ... anyway, Neville, I believe we have things to discuss and I'd like to show you a few memories I've collected. Tell me, do you believe in love, Neville?
Neville: Wat? Uh, this training won't be hands-on, will it?

    (later)
Harry: ... and that is why Hobby is a very bad elf and must be punished.
    Ginny: Wat?
    Hermione: Wat?
    Fleur: Quoi?
    Tonks: /facepalm
    Cho: /grabs Chinese recipe book

Yeah, it got some mixed reviews here, but I loved it, personally.

    Book two divergence point.

Harry and Ron looked under the sink where Myrtle was pointing. A small, thin book lay there. It had a shabby black cover and was as wet as everything else in the bathroom. Harry stepped forward to pick it up, but Ron suddenly flung out an arm to hold him back.

    "What?" said Harry.

"Are you crazy?" said Ron. "It could be dangerous."

"Dangerous?" said Harry, laughing. "Come off it, how could it be dangerous?"
"You'd be surprised," said Ron, who was looking apprehensively at the book. "Some of the books the Ministry's confiscated Dad's told me — there was one that burned your eyes out. And everyone who read Sonnets of a Sorcerer spoke in limericks for the rest of their lives. And some old witch in Bath had a book that you could never stop reading! You just had to wander around with your nose in it, trying to do everything one-handed. And —"

"All right, I've got the point," said Harry.

The little book lay on the floor, nondescript and soggy.

"Well, we won't find out unless we look at it," he said, and he ducked around Ron and picked it up off the floor.

Harry saw at once that it was a diary, and the faded year on the cover told him it was fifty years old. He opened it eagerly. On the first page he could just make out the name "T M. Riddle" in smudged ink.

"Hang on," said Ron, who had approached cautiously and was looking over Harry's shoulder. "I know that name… T. M. Riddle is You-Know-Who's real name!"

"How on earth d'you know that?" said Harry in amazement.

"Because my Mum and Dad worked with Dumbledore during the war, and he used to refer to him by that name. Thats what Dad told us. He didn't know much else about Him though. Come to think of it, He has an Award for Special Services to the School as well that I must've polished a hundred times."

Harry peeled the wet pages apart. They were completely blank. There wasn't the faintest trace of writing on any of them, not even Auntie Mabel's birthday, or dentist, half-past three.

"He never wrote in it," said Harry, disappointed.

"I wonder why someone wanted to flush it away?" said Ron curious

Harry turned to the back cover of the book and saw the printed name of a variety store on Vauxhall Road, London.

"He must've been Muggle-born," said Harry thoughtfully. "To have bought a diary from Vauxhall Road…"

"Well, it's not much use to you," said Ron. He dropped his voice. "Fifty points if you can get it through Myrtle's nose."

Then they either bring it straight to Dumbledore and solve the whole thing, or they still bring it to Hermione who does her Sherlock Holmes thing.

Apart from the fact that it pretty much removes all conflict from the story, how in the hell would Voldemort's real name be known to Ron of all people, when even his top Death Eaters only referred to him as the Dark Lord or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? Besides, Dumbledore very rarely called Voldemort by any other name while with anyone but Harry (or when talking to Tom himself), since he preferred to have people confront their fear of the name than try to think of him as any other human.

I don't know, it seems feasible to me if you use it in a slight AU.

If Dumbledore held his cards a little less close, and told the original order during the first war who Voldemort really was. I don't remember if the weasleys were part of the original order, but Molly her brothers were, if I'm remembering it right. So, yeah.

Cutting out the diary year also opens up a time to create an original plot, or to plan a backslash to Lucius Malfoy for giving it to Ginny. It could even be that the diary is used to determine that Riddle was making horcruxes early on, or an combination of all of those. It could be an interesting read.

It would most likely be a story with a lot more elder figures stealing some limelight from Harry because he's so young though.

I like the idea, although personally, I'd use the unknown amount of time that takes place, while Harry is alone and being shown Hagrid's framing, for the divergence.

"Professor McGonnagal! Come quick, it's Harry! He's been enchanted or something by this book, he's been staring at it's blank pages for 20 minutes!!" Ron shouted, and he burst into the Griffindor Head's office.
McGonnagal frown drew her mouth into a thin line (hooray 4cliches), as she hurried out of her room.
"Well what are you waiting for Weasley? Lead the way" she said stiffly, as she strode behind him. "And you, Longbottom, go and fetch the Headmaster".

    Something like that anyway.

I'm actually picturing Dumbledore writing in the journal and seeing Riddle's memory of what really happened 50 years ago.

Yeah - I buy admonkeystrator's version. Ron knowing that Voldemort is Tom Riddle? Not likely unless it's one of those frog cards or he played Quidditch before turning evil.

I've read more than a few stories though where one of the students realize that the diary is evil and seeks out a professor. Oddly enough, this tends to occur in stories where Harry is a Ravenclaw.

That gives me a plot bunny.

Voldemort after being rejected from the DADA job needs a new way to gather an army. So what does he do? Well only with his dashing good looks and excellent skills on a broom can he get the supporters he needs.
