I just finished reading the sneak peek of Lost Heroes, the "sequel" to Percy Jackson series, that Lucky Felix posted.
It's fuckin epic. Better by far than the most action-filled scenes in PJO. So good.

Vash, you must write this fic. Hades will put you in Tartarus otherwise.
Anyways, I've read the series a few times, and my grammar is pretty good. My writing style isn't that good, but I know Greek Myths pretty well(I went through a period where I read everything I could find about it). If you want I could be like a beta/fanboy/cheereader for you.

Well, noticing the positive comments in this thread, I decided to download the first three books last night.

And I do have to say they're very good for children's books. I liked them, even if they aren't really "thought provoking" or whatever it was people were going on about on the previous page.

I'll probably finish reading the series, and then hand them over to my little brother to read.

I read the first three books and enjoyed them. The only thing that bothered me was that every fight/situation Percy got himself into seemed to be resolved too easily.

I think with both the characters being older, Riordan's son being older, and the intended audience being older that the next series will hopefully be significantly better.

And I certainly agree about there not being much in the way of good PJO fanfics.

I might go ahead and post my Harry/Percy crossover in WBA, but I just haven't had much time over the last few months to do any writing. Dunno when I'll be able to pick that up.

Might do that later today or tomorrow though, just to get opinions on it all.

I've also been mulling over a Percy Jackson fic. I'm not sure about the specifics, but it was mainly inspired by the Water-bending seen in Avatar; i.e. Percy making more effective use of his power to manipulate water.

Yeah, I hated it too that Percy did almost nothing with his water powers other than the passive uses. You are the son of Poseidon man, drown some bitches.

I would but beyond the idea of Hades and Percy joining up, I've got no kind of plot for it. :/

No explanation for them joining up, or what goal they might have, etc. Best I can come up with is branching off book three and when Dionysnape bitching out Percy, instead of following, branching off from there. Or even before.

It'd be one of those selfish 'FUCK YOU HATERS!' type moments...

Percy Jackson really does need some quality fics...and I'd be interested in seeing a good HP/PJO crossover. The existing ones are horrible.

Perhaps you should get started writing, then.

    Touché, Vash. >_>

THIS WINTER, A FIC UNLIKE ANY YOU HAVE SEEN BEFORE--

Okay, I suck at movie-trailering. I'll think about it, though.

Coming this winter, see Harry Potter like you've never seen him before! With double the action!

    "GET DOWN!" *Asplosion*

    Triple the drama!

"I don't care if you are carrying his baby, you aint gonna touch my mans, bitch!"

    More of the action!

    "GET DOWN AGAIN!" *Bigger Asplosion*

This winter, Harry Potter is... Little Tortilla Boy

Was I the only one by the way who imagined some of the gods look like the Disney portrayals from Hercules the movie? Not saying that it was a good/faithful movie or anything but despite every piece of description of the gods, to me they were the Disney gods only in different clothing (in the appearance department). Even Hades had, in my minds eye, blue burning hair.

Sole exception was the awesome Dionysus, who looked like a human Phil.

No. No you were not. And personally, I pictured Dionysus as Snape, really. >_> An alcoholic Snape.

Just read this series and I must say that it is an amazing universe to be writing fanfiction in. So I hopped over to FF.net to see if there was anything good and found about one page of absolute shit stories there that are over 40k words. Wow.

Anyways, while the story was pretty straightforward, it was certainly enjoyable. My personal gripes with it were Kronos's characterization (just all-around bland mwahahaha! bad guy) and obviously the ending. I didn't like how the prophecy came to fruition - it seemed like Riordan went out of his way to make the most fluffy outcome possible from the really nasty prophecy that was given.

I also really don't understand Percy's decision at all. Sure at may have been in character, but as some point he's got to start worrying about his own mortality, right? I mean he's been to the Underworld more than once. He knows what's in store for him, even if he's pretty much guaranteed Elysium. In Greek mythology the human spirit is pretty much immortal by definition, right? You just don't get to choose where you spend your afterlife. Throughout the series Percy keeps thinking what a burden it would be to never die, but what's the difference? I don't get it. If you're a god you get super powers and get to chill wherever you like. If you're mortal you get corralled into hell for eternity.

I also found it lulzy that instead of accepting the gods' generous gift of immortality, Percy basically throws it in their faces and calls them out on being shitty parents. When is this guy going to be dusted by some angry deity already? I suppose it's in character for him, but sometimes it's good to take the carrot. He's got a mortal curse hanging over him that multiple characters have warned him about, yet he throws away his out like nothing.

Last thing: Perhaps I missed something in this story, but for some reason I didn't realize that becoming a god precluded you from having relationships with mortals. I mean isn't that sort of the whole point of the story? One way that Percy rationalizes his decision is that if he becomes a god, he won't be able to be with Annabeth, but why? Maybe he could have some dyslexic, ADD kids of his own.

Anyways, I'm really considering giving a sequel to The Last Olympian a shot. With an awesome ending. Maybe I can pull myself out of hiatus with this.

Hey, Howdy I dont think we're supposed to understand his decision as much as gain "lesson" for it. Remember that he wrote this story for his son.

I think is decisions are to show that "good persons" make sacrifices, and dont care about personal gain.

Hollywood is a sucker for Greek Mythology, gamers are suckers for Greek Mythology and readers are also suckers for Greek Mythology:awesome
I grew up with it, so I already knew all that shit in Age of Mythology, GoW and Percy Jackson, but still seeing them put in games and books and movies brings out the lulz in me.
But what sucks here in Greece is that only the first two books have come out. Ironic huh? As a matter of fact, the second book only came out a month or two ago. I had to buy the second book when I was at a trip to Scotland to read it. Which sucks. I really want to read the rest, but I don't want it enough to internet order it.

My views on the first two books is that yes, it is a kid's book, but an entertaining one. For smaller kids, it can capture their attention like the best fanfic will do for us and for older guys it will be a fun break from everything else.
It is too simple and straightforward, and the plot seemed to carry itself instead of waiting to be puzzled out, if you get me. Percy may act more like a real person would act than Harry, but he still allows others who think they know best to push him around.

All I saw of Thalia was her first appearance in the end of the second book, and from her description there I hate her already:mad: And if what someone here(dont remember who) said about her wanting leadership because she was there before, then I doubly hate her. "You were a fucking tree you retarded bitch! Shut the fuck up." Would be a nice thing for Percy to say, would it not:D?

The movie sucked big time. Everything besides Poseidon sucked. And I have to say that, other than the bearded old man Zeus, Sean Bean is exactly how I would imagine Zeus.

I know, right? The universe definitely has potential, and hopefully some better fics start to be written.

This is my biggest complaint. Plus, I think it was mentioned in one of the books that Dionysus' mortal lover eventually became his immortal wife. There really was no point in refusing the gods' offer. This is why I want to read a good "Percy becomes a god" fic...

    You and me both...

There are ebooks available, you know. That's how I read it.
