Absolute truth, but I think it's more likely that after displaying Minato's badassery, Kishimoto needed a reason for why everything that already happened in the story, happened.

He wrote himself into a corner. Minato had to be the most powerful shinobi ever, but he had to somehow lose against Madara for the story to happen. Therefore, Minato had to be a total unstoppable badass, and then make a retarded decision.

Could you imagine Naruto if the Yondaime never died? There'd be no conflict. The Uchiha's coup? Yeah, that would have been stopped almost immediately. You don't rebel against a leader who's a Person of Mass Destruction. Orochimaru? He'd have never had the chance to attack. Pein? He'd have never stood a chance against the physical god that was Minato Namikaze. Akatsuki? The Kyuubi would have been at least temporarily dead.

The entire series would be a massive curb-stomp.

 

Someone should write this, if only for a guilty pleasure.

Nice to see Kushina call Minato on his decision to use the Dead Demon Seal, and him providing a reasonably good explanation for his decision. Also, I suspect TvTropes is going to get a new TearJerker entry for this chapter.

 

Damn... I really enjoyed that chapter.

 

Continuation of Minato being a dumb retard.

Kushina saying that Minato has to raise Naruto and Minato saying "lol, no" and sealing the kyuubi in Naruto.

Dunno, chapter felt...cheap for the lack of better words. Cheap try to get emotions from the readers, cheap explanation on why Minato did what he did, cheap and predictable reaction from Naruto dunno, was not impressed.

 

I don't know, it wasn't that bad. True, Minato could've simply let Kushina take the Kyuubi with her and raised Naruto himself. Would've been the sensible thing to do. But there are a couple of points against this.

First, if Kushina died with the Kyuubi sealed with her, then the beast would reform after a time allowing Madara to get his hands on it then - and Minato'd have no reasonable hope of stopping Madara at that point as Madara would simply summon the Kyuubi once it reformed. Second, if Minato succeeded in sealing atleast some part of the beast into Naruto, then Madara would not have any easy way of getting the beast without returning to Konoha and defeating Naruto. With luck (read: Minato's faith), Naruto would already have the Kyuubi's power under his control when Madara renewed his attempts to control the beast.

For Naruto to control the beast though, he'd need Kushina's help because she's the one with the special chakra that allows certain Uzumaki ninjas to control bijuu chakra as jinchuuriki. And Kushina was dying anyway. So Minato did the best he could.

He himself didn't have power like Hashirama and Mito that he could seal away the beast without harm to himself. So, Shiki Fuujin. Part of the Kyuubi's chakra (yin, yang whatever) went into death with him and the remaining chakra along with the body was bound to Naruto. Then he sealed a part of his and Kushina's chakra into the Eight Trigrams as a failsafe. So, if Naruto attempted to release the Kyuubi without the key, Minato'd stop him and when he did use the key to control the Kyuubi, Kushina'd help him win.

Not too bad, all things considered.

 

Only, it has been shown that bijuu can be fought, hell Minato on his own did a pretty good job.

Konoha was in deep shit because the kyuubi caught them with their trousers down. They didn't know they had a jinchuruki.

And if they were prepared, they would have the 3rd and 4th Hokage among others to deal with the kyuubi. I mean kumo could deal with their hachibi just fine.

and why no hope of stopping Madara? Madara attacked Minato while Minato was under extreme stress, didn't know anything about Madara and was caught by surprise while Madara knew about Yondaime and was prepared for it and STILL Minato kicked his ass without trouble.

Now that he knows, next time will be easier.

All in all, dumb decision by him but Fiat had it right. Needed to die in order for the plot to happen.

 

I can kind of see Minato's point about needing the keep the Nine-Tails under Konoha's control. Not all the details of when/how a biju re-manifests after it dies are clear, but it is entirely possible that when the Nine-Tails turned back up it could be somewhere far away from Konoha. Even leaving the issue of Madara and Akatsuki behind, having one of the biju out for anyone to claim could cause all kinds of instability in the ninja world.

For example, if Kumo managed to get the Nine-Tails it would seriously throw the balance of power off, especially if they did something insane/terrifying like seal the Fox into the Raikage. Minato is an utter badass, but the Raikage and Killer Bee make a very scary team.

On an unrelated note, what the hell was up with the most recent anime episodes? Why did we get a flashback to pre-Timeskip that was complete filler? WHY?

As for the anime, I've no idea why they called it Shippuden Episode 170-171. When I first saw it, I though the mods at narutoget had posted the next Naruto movie instead of the Shippuden episodes. I've no idea when the movie's supposed to come out though.

 

Anyone but me feel that Kisame is about to suffer a fatal dose of wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time? Naruto's going to have to curbstomp somebody before he goes back up against Sasuke and Madara.

 

maybe. but I think that Killer Bee would be taken down by Kisame before that.

 

I think it's interesting that Naruto still has a ton to go before he's Minato's level. While he'll probably be able to beat Madara and Sasuke now, Minato could take Madara on while disadvantaged and completely win.
Howdy, since you seem to be the expert on Naruto canon here, do you think the Sage of the Six Paths was more powerful than Minato?

 

There is all the bodies which Kabuto just resurrected for Naruto to fight.

 

I suspect most of the back-from-the-dead Akatsuki will not be fighting against Naruto in the big final battle, but will instead end up facing off against other cast members.
