Do we all agree with what the purpose of the C2 is?

I don't think it's about what Swim says, not completely at least. The DLP C2 is to present the best DLP as a community has produced over the years, a way to show ff.net how it's done. An abandoned story can be good, but if I were the one calling the shots here, I'd keep it out of the community, simply because I want to show the best stories, the best authors, and presenting an abandoned story as something to be proud of is counter-productive.

So... what is the point of the C2? Besides bumping down those disgusting slash communities, of course.

The biggest problem with including abandoned fics is that a great deal of them (probably most of them?) aren't marked as such in their descriptions. So there isn't necessarily any way to be sure that a fic is abandoned until you reach the end, especially if it's already long enough to be a completed novel-length story.

I suppose that C2s don't let the community staff write their own summaries for the fics they've added? If they do, abandoned fics have a place, so long as they're explicitly classified as abandoned. You could have an "Abandoned Classics" series within the C2. It would then be up to the reader to decide whether or not they want to attempt it.

If you can't add your own description, it's just best to keep them out of the C2 altogether.

Imho, it's somewhere between removing slash communities, showcasing the best of DLP, shamelessly advertising DLP, and the fanfiction equivelant of chasing the fifteen year old fangirls around the room over and over again, waving our big meaty man-dongs, just because we can.

Advertisement mainly, at least from my perspective. The Harry Potter fandom is shrinking faster and faster. Other Harry Potter forums like Mugglenet and Portkey are already way past their prime and in the case of the latter are barely active. If we want to survive as long as possible against the shrinkage, we need a real good way to advertise and the C2 fulfills those requirements.

    Never.

DLP will continue on, as Project DLP. There is no real 'shrinkage' here right now. In the future, certainly in regards to HP fandom, but DLP will continue on.

    Oh, and subscribed.

Okay, to resolve this once and for all, I'm going to write the following mission statement.

I'll compile a list of affected stories in the next few days and begin to weed out the undesirable.

Er... could you clarify this a little for me? How can a completed work have updates? Did you mean finished within the last five months, or am I missing something here?

Don't see how that's a difficult concept to understand. If it was updated in the last five months, it's considered 'active' regardless of whether it's completed or not.

Ah, okay. It just struck me as strange that there was no different rules for completed works.

Four more members and we jump another two places.

Unless we already have and it just hasn't updated yet.

At the very least we need to overtake the Harry/Voldemort slash C2.

    The Potter Conspiracy by darklordmike

3.7 rating in the library, but I think this one deserved a closer look. Though abandoned, it is 200k words that may start in cliched fashion, but quickly ramps up into full-blown civil war in the Magical World, getting quite hectic in the last third of the story.

What does everyone else think? Due to the rating, it's certainly going to fall upon the C2 moderators to decide.

Not sure about Dagger and Rose being there, personally.

Maybe it's just me, but Harry's girlfriend getting raped is a deal-breaker for me.

Well darklordmike is a DLP member, but the rules say a fic has to be 4.0 or better. I personally liked the story, and wouldn't mind seeing it in the C2.

Also, Dagger and Rose by Perspicacity is another DLP author whose story is awesome and needs to stay.

it's pretty cool that there's only one other (07) C2 in the 50 most subscribed C2's that was created after 2005.

And how exactly does this affect the quality of the story. Was it badly executed, or was it just outside your comfort zone? I hope it's the former.

The former, certainly, in my opinion. I didn't enjoy the preceding 12 chapters or so, but only ended up dropping it once it got to the rape. I thought it was overly angsty and was tired of Harry getting beaten up by fairly weak antagonists.

In regards to the rape, though, I just find that entire aspect in fics like that to be extremely irritating. You have a supposed strong female character, who you want to be independent and well developed, yet at the center of the story you have 2 characters, a protagonist and an antagonist, both treating her like a commodity. One out of 'love', and one whose motivations are vague, who rapes her just to move the angst along.

No disrespect to the author intended, just replying to that post.

Well, I mean no particular disrespect to you, Dizstance, but this is why squibs shouldn't be allowed to voice an opinion. Perspicacity is one of DLP's established authors.

Not only that, but there was a very long debate about the rape part of this story ages ago (in wba, if you care to look), but DLP decided the story was awesome on its own merits and voted it pretty high. It's incredibly well written, and surprisingly fresh compared to tons of the shit out there.

My opinion, it should definitely be included in the C2. And I'm not just saying this because I beta'd.

I disagree, but I don't have a probem with my vote not counting or people disagreeing, just wanted to share my opinion.
