Don't forget Shinji jerks off with Asuka's hair at one point.

This. >_> Reference the graveyard scene between Spike and Julia in ... the last two episodes of the show I think?...

Also; Vote Tiem: Make the movie an adaption of the episode "Ganymede Elegy": Yes/No? D: Still one of my favorite episodes.

    Huh.

Well, I kind of doubt that the project is still on. The live-action movie was announced back in July of 2008, prior to the global economic meltdown and the news that Keanu was being attached to the project originated in December of 2008. Since then, according to my 15 seconds of google searching there has been no more news.

For a project that is being released next year - that's way too quiet for a movie. I'm thinking this is a no-go.

Yep, the project's on hold for the moment. Hurray!

I just can't see Keanu Reeves doing Bruce Lee moves like Spike does.

Regarding Neon Genesis Evangelion, the scenario was drastically changed, with the geo front located in Germany instead of Japan. This caused an outrage among fans, but it is logical to change the location since no one would watch a bunch of Japanese actors in the global stage.

But then, it wouldn't be NGE anymore, since the feel of the Japanese setting will be gone.

When was that announced? I thought there hasn't been any new info about NGE since ADV collapsed. They haven't even gotten a director yet the last time I checked.

The article the OP posted is from January 2009. This movie has been in development hell for awhile and after DBZ and Airbender I'd be surprised if it gets made.

I understand the jokes about Keanu, but I think he'd make a good Spike to be honest. He's passionate enough about the role, and he has had good performances. (See: The Devil's Advocate).

Before it went into development hell, I did read how the original writers were on board. And I assume they would get The Seatbelts to do the soundtrack. So it had potential.

Personally, I see the Ghost in the Shell movie that Steven Spielberg wanted to make being out before the Bebop movie. (And before I'm asked, that's also in development hell.)

The opinion of a manga and anime fan: There is not a single live-action movie made from manga or anime that is good. Stop making them, dammit. You only rape the original. I have no hopes whatsoever for this.

I don't particularly dislike Keanu Reeves as an actor, hell, I really liked him in The Devil's Advocate, but as a live action anime, I have absolutely no expectations for this.

Well he jerked off because the hair reminded him of her when he saw her in the bed and caught a little upskirt, He felt horrible about doing it but did it anyway. I dunno, maybe I'm just more inclines to those types of anime.

Regardles Live action films fo not have a good reputation but Cowboy bebop has a very adaptable script that will make some semblance of a coherant stoey to North American audiences, which cannot be said for a lot of Anime.

You need to compare his role as Neo to his potential in this film as the original script for Neo had him doing moves like Bruce Lee. Considering the flop of CGI redesigning the last two Matrix films hashed out, do you really believe Keanu Reeves could perform the martial arts necessary for this role?

He can't. He would have already if he could. And the best acting he has ever done has been when he's been a huge asshole with some sort of sarcastic, arrogant or downright rude image. That's not Spike. That's not Spike at all.

Knowing that he cannot perform the martial arts for it is reason enough for me. Knowing his personality and acting ability don't fit Spike is just icing on the cake. I don't care how passionate he is about the role. he was also passionate about The Day The Earth Stood Still (See dictionary for the definition of suck). Spike is too cool to be played by him.

I hope the live action version of this, until it's being handled by someone else, never makes another step forward. The anime and its film were good enough for me.

I get what you mean about Keanu not being able to do the Kung Fu ,but I am not sure any actor would be capable of the martial arts that Spike does in the anime. Besides Spike is cool because of his humor (which Keanu will have written for him) and his best fight scenes often include him just obliterating everyone with a gun or in his aircraft... well not really but the action isn't all important and they will devise some sort of compromise.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9NcssRpjBE You'd have to have some pretty swift feet for some of those combos.

In Japan, China, or somewhere else? I know that there have been quite a few movie adaptations made in Japan and China, some of which are quite good from what I've heard, but only the Dragonball and Speed Racer movies come to mind as ones made elsewhere.

I think it's less the point of "XXXXX can do the same thing Spike does" so much as it's "Can XXXXX make it look as effortlessly awesome as Spike does without neutering the opponent/Big Bad. You've gotta remember, Spike was a member of the Red Dragon Syndicate. He is certifiably bad ass.

    God this. So very this.

Cowboy Bebop (Or a movie of a similar but unrelated vein) could be awesome. Some turn out awful, some turn out decent. The Cowboy Bebop was an awesome story. so it could have been done awesomely if it was more of an 'Inspired By' rather than an addition to the universe...

That said, it requires good actors. Of which Keanu is not listed as...

Also, don't justify it. he jerked one out to her unconscious form.

...The martial arts skill (or lack thereof) shouldn't even factor, really - because no adept martial artist will ever be an actor with any sort of talent or depth. Don't know why that is, but that's just a given.

Keanu doesn't have Spike's cool. That's reason enough.

I just don't see how they'll fit the story in just one movie. I always liked how in the anime they never straight up told you who the character was. Little by little they kept unlocking pieces of the character till you got a good idea of who that person was. There's too much information and too little time to properly do what needs to be done. Something is going to have to be left out.

Ideally they'll split it into two movies and have the first one end on "Ballad of Fallen Angels".

But honestly there's so much epic shit that happens in this series. Even though they have the writers from the anime involved, I don't know if it will turn out as epic.

Jet Li in Fearless is a counterexample, though your point is well taken.

Fair enough. I think every other actor around him had more difficult parts (and did them really well), and while he did played his role well...it wasn't all that difficult, was it ?

Maybe I need to see it again...

Yeah Ballad, Ellegy, Jupiter Jazz and Black Dog Serenade are probably the only episodes really worth making a movie out of. The animated movie, Knockin' On Heaven's Door was ... kind of awesome in some ways...

Honestly, continuing the above thought, if they try to add shit to the canon universe, or anything it'll flop. They honestly just need to make it a huge filler episode. Something pointless, kind of like Heavy Metal Queen.

Jackie Chan says Fuck yo Couch. Fer rizzle mah nizzle.

I personally don't find Jet Li to be a very compelling actor.....though if we slap on some green hair and put him on stilts he could do a bit better than Keanu
