As soon as I noticed the word/name "Naruto", my eyes kinda glazed over and the rest of your post became background noise, to be honest.

Sorry mate, for many of the reasons already posted/stated by the others on here in the preceding posts, bad idea, bad premise.

I know that you're also trying to remain civil in your responses, but you're also digging yourself a bigger hole here.

To stop digging a hole, just stop replying - you posted your plot bunny, people hated it, if you think it's still valid - well hell, if this is your attempt to convince us of it, then you are failing terribly.

So you can agree to disagree with everyone who's posted, and just shut up. That will stop your hole-digging.

Or you can keep bitching like a crack whore who got creampied, and DLP will hate you forever.

I actually had been considering this. Harry ends up working for Marcone under some pretense, and Marcone's like "You wouldn't work for me, so I went and got another wizard," which would lead to both Harrys working together for something, as Marcone tends toward having similar interests to Dresden, but the looming threat in both Harrys' minds that Marcone will send Potter to attack Dresden.

I was thinking ideas for it, but got sidetracked by original stuff, Sanya stuff, and other things, but maybe I'll poke at it as a long one-shot some time if no one else does it first

Funny, I had this weird idea that from all the shit that has been posted here, I was the only one with the decency not to act like a bitch. Must have misunderstood.

    Pretty much this.

I pretty much learnt this lesson first hand after my 'Daphne Greengrass' topic. ;)

    1. Read for content- they didn't like your idea. Accept this

    2. Do not defend- defensiveness is weakness, which summons the wolves

    3. Regardless of your post count, you are a crawling worm until some established resident praises your opinion. Until that time, insulting anyone is a short road to a ban

    4. If you feel strong emotions from the responses to your posts, you haven't built up enough armor, yet. Lurk and mature elsewhere, then try again when you've got some callouses.

    5. Don't assume, just because I'm making sense at the moment, that anyone around here respects me

You know Republic21, I've been looking at a bunch of threads today and it looks like you start an argument in every thread you post in, including your intro.

As for your idea, I have a few questions. Why is Naruto at Hogwarts? How will you logically combine HP magic with jutsu? If there is no conflict in your story, then your story is just going to be about some kid learning spells and then hooking up with Fleur during the TWT. Sounds just like another one of the mediocre HP training stories which are present on ff.net in the thousands.

... I'm starting to think Republic21 is a rather successful troll. And I say that with complete sincerity.

I just don't know what to make of this plot bunny post. I mean, it's bad to the point that I don't want to believe it even happened. Even when you take out the multiple responses, which could really piss off anyone from DLP, the very idea is just so terrible that it makes me derp.

To start off, let me make something clear:

    Stories. Need. Conflict.

There, it's that simple. If you write this fic, literally no one will read it because there will be no reason to. Conflict is simply so central to the idea of fiction that you cannot take it away. Even readers who do not know this rule will think, "Holy crap this is boring, why would I ever read the rest of this?"

If you're going to write this crossover, there needs to be a plot aside from 'Harry learns magic and occasionally bumps into Harry Potter in the halls."

Fuck, make it about magic faeries attacking Hogwarts for 7 years straight. Make it about all the familiars/pets of Hogwarts suddenly being able to talk. Make it about something. As long as we have a desire to see what happens next, you can make a story out of pretty much anything.

Will it be good? Most likely not. Will it be original? Probably not.

But it will be better than a story about nothing.

    Sigh.

So, you decide that, after being flamed by pretty much everyone, you'll take the one person who wants to help you flesh out this idea a little, either helping you refine it or realise it's bad idea and not write it, and respond like this?

My God, it's like listening to an eleven year old sulking in the corner because mom and dad aren't paying attention.

Done with this thread now. I'll let DLP do it's magic and look for this guy in HoS in about a week.

    edit:

Apparently I'm not done quite yet.

Wonder why I would get the impression that this is a story with no real conflict? This is a world full of magic and you want it to be about Naruto going to a boarding school that happens to teach you neat spells.

I saw that you had a few alternate ideas, involving the Kyuubi and Sasuke, my point is that there better damn well be something more than what your original idea was.

I would have posted explanations but I tried making it short and to the point. If you were really interested I would tell you, but you are probably not, so why bother asking in the first place?

To Phantom. I did not say there would be no conflict. I said that he would not be involved in the major events that Harry takes part in except the TWT. He will have his fare share of problems to solve. Just not the Bassilisk or the DOM or the Horcruxes.

And if it so horrible, let it die in peace and never speak of it again. I swear you guys are just itching for someone to flame.

(sigh) This isn't going to end well.

    ...

    Popcorn, anyone?

    On the plotbunny front:

Has anyone ever considered the idea of a Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn crossover with Tiberium, Nod and Kane?

Mm. So, 'Republic21'... you take someone pointing out the flaws in your story idea as a personal insult? Look: take it for the advice we're giving. It's a bad idea. You know why - the lack of conflict will make it very boring to read. Note that conflict does not equal action - however, a story where your main character does nothing does certainly not contain conflict. Any potential readers will read it in complacency, even if they aren't turned off by the complete alienation from the original events.

It is a bad idea. Stop pissing in this thread because people are telling you what you don't want to hear. We aren't going to pander to you out of politeness: you're being a dick and you deserve to know that.

Grow up. Come to terms with confrontation. Lurk moar.

Edit: Why don't you try to... y'know, take criticism on board? Improve the idea. Give it a proper plot - make something worthwhile happen in the story. If you do that, it might even turn out half-decent, if clichéd. Really not hard considering you have a bunch of people already telling you what's wrong with the idea.

Let's get this thread back to talking about plot bunnies, eh?

    Here's the pitch:

I have a notion to write up a Voldemort: Year One type fic that charts his progress from leaving Hogwarts until he gets vaporized by Lily's sacrifice. Plenty of stories have come up with interesting snippets of Riddle's life during his rise to Biggest MoFo of Europe, but they typically present it only to show how badder than bad badness their version is. I'm not seeing this as a 'Voldemort is misunderstood' story- more just a collection of key events hinted to in the canon that might fill out his overall psyche profile.

Is this old hat or a worthy enterprise?

It really depends on how you approach it. It's important that we can empathize with Voldemort as the protagonist, allowing us to care about his success, while not raping what he is in canon.

This would, of course, be hard to do, seeing as he likes to murder civilians.

What kind of angle are you going for? Are we simply watching his descent into darkness, or are we following his plans to take over Wizarding Britain?

Long time ago, I thought about the same thing and probably even seen one or two fics trying to do it. Idea is great but it needs very good writer, because for one, we know what will happen in the end with Tom, so there needs to be interesting side plots. And two, author would need to create many compelling OCs and we all know how it works with fanfiction.
