Maybe Molly was a Triwizard champion as well, she did kill Bellatrix after all.

But then she must be close friends with Flamel, because she doesn't look like two hundred years old.

I don't remember it well (haven't read the books in ages, and don't have access to my copies) but is it actually stated that Bill expects Fleur to become a stay-at-home, dote-on-husband housewife? Marriage != loss of career in itself, and just because she is taking some time off to get to know her fiance's family/because she is pregnant doesn't mean she is planning to abandon her career as a whole.

It can be argued that most characters in book 7 are OOC. If it was a fanfic, I would have flamed the author at the time. Now I just don't care that much.

What I understood, was that Fleur gave birth to her first child some short time after the war, since it was mentioned that she was somehow involved with Teddy Lupin.

How long does it take to raise a child till it's old enough, that you can keep it safely at your mother's/mother-in-law's/Molly's house, so you can go to work ?
Maybe three or four years and we know, that Fleur and Bill had a few kids (how many ? no idea), which leads me to believe, that Fleur was (give or take) ten years occupied with raising her kids, while Bill was of to work.

And the way she was portrayed in book 6 and 7, she seemed to follow Molly's path.

Wat? Maybe things are different in Germany, but my mom never stopped working when I was born - she went right back after the six weeks maternity leave were up. When my little sister was born, I think she took a year off. Believe it or not, yes grandparents/babysitters can take care of a kid even before it's 3-4 years old.

As far as I'm aware, Fleur was not pregnant during book 7. Bill and Fleur's oldest daughter (possibly only???) Victoire was born on May 2nd, on the anniversary of the final battle. Teddy was one or two years older than she was, and was graduated at the time he came to see her off for Hogwarts.

Maybe you should consider the circumstances of the fucking BOOK.

I thought it was obvious, that my comment deals with FICTION.

Well about the way things are in Germany, boys are usually sent right after birth to the Hitlerjugend so we can learn as early as possible how to invade Poland.

I'm already waiting for the next guy, who writes, that he was raised at his mother's job.

Ah, ok then, my bad. Either way, though, what kmfrank said is true. Women don't stop working simply because they have children - my mother sure as hell didn't. My aunts didn't either. And stopping working during the war is still justifiable, given that she's heavily involved with a strongly 'Light' family.

Re the acting like Molly in book 6, again, I haven't read the books in some time, so I can't really say much to that except that I never really got that impression when I did read them.

Edit: Ninja'd. Nevertheless, Phantom, I fail to see how the 'circumstances of the FUCKING BOOK' preclude Fleur from returning to work - you seem to be basing your view of the Wizarding world on Molly.

The keywords are Wizarding world !

You just can't compare the Wizarding world after Voldemort's defeat with real life.

I might be ignorant here, but why not? Aside from the fact you say so, of course.

We've seen no evidence to support or deny that Fleur was going back to work. For all you know, following the events of the books she imperiused the entire goblin nation, having married Bill only to get into a good position to put her plan into motion, and now rules over a nation of tiny bloodthirsty greedy bastards, having used them to crush the Wizarding world, which was completely unprepared for a goblin rebellion.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly as possible as Fleur suddenly becoming Molly Weasley.

What I believe is that characters like Fleur, Bill and Charlie (especially the last two) simply don't have enough "screen time" to be judged accurately, thus leaving their widely accepted image and their so called "canon" behavior to be created by the fans. The only way we could be sure of what they would or would not do, would be to ask Rowling herself. And I believe the fanmade image of these kind of characters is better that Rowling's.

Umm...sorry if you took it that way, but what I wrote wasn't a slight against Germans and/or a reference to kids being recruited to the Hitlerjugend.

Having, you know, traveled to Germany - amongst a few other places internationally - and seeing that Western Europe is largely similar, culturally, to my experiences in the US, I was nonetheless allowing for the potential that cultural differences existed in the expectations of women post-childbirth.

Since, you know, most of Europe has national health insurance and things like that, which could conceivably make the experiences different.

Even the act of delivering children is different between most of Western Europe and the US, with the latter having many fewer midwives than are used throughout Europe (though that trend is thankfully starting to change on our side). HOW STRANGE OF ME TO THINK THAT OTHER THINGS INVOLVING CHILD BIRTH MIGHT BE DIFFERENT AS WELL!!

First off, excuse my english. It's not my first language and I am not using anything to correct it.

@Phantom92 Don't bother. Bill has been stablished as bad-ass by...Blaise? Someone else? Don't remember. That means that after 'epic' post everyone else or almost everyone else will consider Bill bad ass. That, despite the fact that his job should not be that great. Be it for money or adventures as stated before.

This is bullshit. Think for a moment. Everyone here is thinking of your cliche magic and the next moment they actually try to be realistic with the characters?

First off, Magic has EVOLVED. Yes from time to time they can find some powerful lost spell/ritual/whatever, but almost everything else, at this point is probably documented and the methods are more refined. Oh, look, an ancient egipcian ward!! Fuck it, I'll take it down, like I did with the last 200 before this shit....meh, bored. It's like if I suddenly find a stone axe, oh look, it was a powerful weapon used by our ancestors.....fuck it, where's my gun?

As a side note, bad ass or not, Bill got OWNED by Greyback. If he was such a bad ass, an overly strong mutt would have been no problem. Please people, don't go comparing this pathetic attempt of bad ass character with the likes of Dumbledore, Snape (in his good times...faggot), etc etc. The smart thing would have being sever his limbs and kill him.

The thing is, very few characters were realistic in the series, so we can't expect them to act like that in reality. They lacked common sense, they lacked determination, they lacked the viciouness and cunning that someone develops in a real fight for your life or normal life.

Knowing that Voldemort has werewolfves, dementors and giants at his command, if you're in the middle of the conflict:

    1-You go prepared
2-You destroy, crush, utterly vaporise your opponent. You don't go arround throwing stunners and flippendo. You throw cutting curses at the neck and limbs and then make sure he is dead with a killing curse.

The thing with Fleur. Love and years change you, but unless you're an imbecile, it doesn't change you that much. If you're in love and that person is in the middle of the conflict, you do the intelligent thing. You stay in your country away from the war, call that person you love, and offer a refuge for that person's family. You don't go like a retard because of 'love' to the center of a war. You also don't take obvious shit from that person's family while he/she doesn't do shit to stop it. Mocking her/Speaking of her from behind, it happens everywere, it's normal. The shit she was put throught, it's not. Even worse, you don't change from proud, talented, beautiful witch with promising future to Molly 2.0 just because of some sand digger redhead.

At this point, you can see I am not that much of a fan of the Weasleys. Well, I tolerate Arthur. The man deserves a fucking medal and I like Charlie just for the thing with dragons. Everyone else, not so much, and no, it's not for Ron. In fact, many times, I've found myself thinking that he was done pretty well, his reactions and behaviour is what you can expect from a kid/teenager.

Molly...everything has been said. I hate that bitch. Percy and Ginny, idem. The twins, a pair of imbeciles whose idea of a joke is making your nose bleed or transfigurate a kid in a giant canary? What age are these bitches? Seven? The only 'good' thing they did was with the swamp and the likes (and even then that pussy of Harry didn't take advantage, Malfoy did.....pathetic).

I know this post may be confusing, but I am adressing different points and I am not up for organization right now.

Anyway, to finish it and what I wanted to point out the most. You can't be realistic with something and expect everything else to not be. In this case, if you want to be soo realist with Bill then please show us the realism in the rest of the series. How do you marry and have kids with a girl whom you have spoken three phrases, throw a retarded expeliarmus spell to a guy who throws killing curses at you, trust in people whom you don't know shit about, and name your kids after people who made your life a living hell? How about, falling in love with a man who is depessing, spends his time feeling sorry for himself, doesn't do shit to help his situation, abandoned you while pregnant and still being stupid enough to let him come back?
I don't know if my point got across. The thing is: are we going to be realists or are we going to base our opinion in the same world (and characters) that idiot Rowling created? Because if it's the later, I can unfortunedly, see the Bill/Fleur pairing with her becoming Molly like, not working and raising kids (probably Rowling's idea of happy ending). In real life, puaf, not a fucking chance.

Fleur started her internship at Gringotts before the "war" was officially underway. A whole year before, if I'm not mistaken - the summer after the Triwizard Tournament. That's a lot of time for her feelings with Bill to become more 'serious.' It's extremely plausible that she didn't intend to stay in England for enough time for things to get serious, but of course plans can change where an intense relationship is involved.

Also, even after the "war" began (end of OotP), it was really still a low-level guerrilla action for most of its first year. It isn't as if Voldemort was bombing Wizarding England with his magical dive bombers that he bought for a song from Grindelwald's old airbase. There's no reason to make it seem as if Fleur was fighting from the trenches with Bill.

I see nothing abnormal about the shit Fleur went through. In the real world, some future brides and husbands deal with far worse from their opposite number's family, if that family doesn't approve of them.

So we are to assume, then, that Ginny and Harry didn't say a word to each other during the part of HBP where they were dating. Or the part after DH but before they got married. I mean, I suppose it's possible that Ginny had her, er, mouth full that whole time, but I don't think that's what Rowling intended.

Since you keep going on about the supposed "realism" of the HP plot events, I'll say it again: this (and far worse) happens all the goddamned time in real life.

God knows Rowling fucked up in a number of ways while writing her series, but I love it when people call her an idiot, while playing in her world. She doesn't sound so stupid any more when you think about the thousands of people writing such impassioned rants about her creation...

For one, not everyone acts logically all the time. If they did, the world would be a very different place.
For two, have you ever heard of Damascan steel? How about Greek Fire? Yeah. Not everything is remembered, and some extremely powerful things have been lost to time. Why would magic be any different?
For three, the "war" is more like a gang fight. A gang war, if you will. Neither side really tries to eliminate the other. There's a lot of posturing. The world as a whole couldn't give two fucks. It's exactly like a gang war.
    For infinity, Bill is badass.

tl;dr: You apparently lack a grasp of history, humanity, and conflict. Good day, sir.
