I think I had a plot bunny involving Starcraft style psionics versus wizards somewhere a while back on here, too.

I currently have one bunny eating my brain.

The Man of the House: Instead of Lily James is the one to "Take Harry and run!" the night Voldemort comes knocking.

I"ve never seen this done before and it opens up a world of possibilities. Feel free to use it just tell me if you do and give me a link to your fic.

Also I really want to write a HP/Mass Effect crossover Based on the first two chapters of http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6265649/1/Inglorious_Boshtets by 500 metric tonnes of paladium.

The question for that, does a father's love rival the possessive love a Mother would have? If not, then his sacrifice may not be enough to the block the curse and thus Harry would die. Then Neville would get a shot at the title.

Or, it would be enough and everything in Canon would be the same, except he'd have his father's protection.

Or, Voldemort would push Lily aside, recalling Snape's wishes, and then pursue and kill James, but also dying in the process. At this point you have a viable fic.

I just thought - why he didn't just stun her when she was protecting Harry? It wasn't like he wanted to kill her, especially when he told her to stand aside, so there was no problem to him to use Stunner instead of AK.

And that could be a start for a great fic with vengeful Lily as a main character, killing DE one by one, maybe with Severus' help (before she discovers it was him who told Voldemort about the Prophecy). Title could be 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' (great movie by the way) or something similar.

It's not that he didn't want to kill her. He wanted to. He is Voldemort after all (you know the insane, psychopathic, serial killer?) and she was a Mudblood. He made a promise to Snape that he'd spare her, and in a way he did. He gave her the option of moving out of the way, and when she decided not to, then so be it. He fulfilled his promise to Snape by giving her a chance, while still murdering her, as he wanted to.

And yet he told her - "Stand aside you silly girl … stand aside now", instead of firing AK at her the moment he entered Harry's room, so I think him using Stunner was more logical (and I realize I want something as impossible as logic or reason from HP books ;) ).

    EDIT:
Fair point, but like I said, he could be more reasonable ;) .

Most probably she would be able to block a stunner and be more trouble than Voldemort wants.

See Jadedmutt's post. He sums it up pretty well.

What I remember from DH (so it could be wrong) is that James and Lily were idiots who did not have their wands when Voldemort came (probably left them in care of "friends" like Pettigrew, Black (who betrayed his godson when he chose revenge) or Dumbledore (who left their son to fifteen hard and unhappy years with Dursleys and then promptly forgot about him)).

That sounds so wrong. Give me some proof.

Ignoring the blatantly retarded parts of this post; Lily and James didn't have their wands on them. There's a difference between that and the retarded bullshit you pulled there. One features them not having them on their person, and the other is...well, retarded bullshit.

In my CZ version of DH (chapter Bathida´s Secret, pages 293-4) is no mention of wands anywhere in house. I do not know if there is something more said in EN version of DH but there should not be great differences.
If there is any mention of them having their wands in house, then I agree that my theory is wrong.

...why would there need to be any mention of them having wands in the house? It's basic common sense.

Because James and Lily did not use their wands against Voldemort and I was wondering why. One possible explanation was that they did not have their wands on them or in house and nothing in CZ version was against this so I just wrote my theory where their wands could have been.

And basic common sense would be to use them against Voldemort.

Well, when you consider that wards aren't mentioned anywhere in canon, James and Lily only knew Voldemort had come when he entered the house. Since they likely didn't carry their wands with them everywhere they went, they just couldn't get to them.

Furthermore, they had a reasonable expectation that they wouldn't need to carry their wands on them at all times because they were protected by the Fidelius charm. Voldemort caught them completely by surprise. In all likelihood, their wands were probably sitting on their bedroom dresser or night stand, or maybe on the kitchen counter.

The sequence of events in canon (U.S. version, Ch. 17 for those who want to see for themselves) goes like this:

    1. Voldemort looks through window; sees James amusing baby Harry by making colored smoke shoot out of his wand
    2. Lily walks in; James picks up son and hands him to Lily
    3. James "[throws] his wand down upon the sofa" and stretches
    4. Voldemort blasts the front door open
    5. James, still sans wand, sprints into the (entry?) hallway, sees it's Voldemort, and tells Lily to take James and run
    6. After killing James, Voldemort goes upstairs and notes that Lily doesn't have her wand on her either. Voldemort takes a few seconds to mentally sneer at the Potters' failing to keep their wands on them at all times, then lays the smackdown

So basically, James and Lily were like, "Dude, where's my wand?" And Voldemort was like, "LOLPWNT!"

This. I still don't understand how not having their wands on them led you to not having them in the house though. Think about it: what do wizards use their wands for in canon? Answer: everything up to and possibly including basic personal hygeine. Of course they had their wands in the house.

Do wizards and witches use their wands to brush their teeth, ya think? What about...ya know, going to the bathroom? Do they use vanishing spells on their butts?
