    Yes.

    No.

Yeah, it's not like we've read fics like that before, is it?

Looks like I'm bumping this thread, but it's H/F, so I don't care.

Anybody know anything about the progress of a couple of good and promising H/F fanfiction? Like... "The Unbearable Lightness of Fleur Delacour"? It hasn't been updated for 2 years, but I've not seen an announcement that it's abandoned.
Same with "The French Affair" and "Circular Reasoning". I think it's been a year now since they've been updated. News on that front? Maybe even from the authors themselves?

    Sure.

Heather is busy writing original stuff (hoping to sell it, I think, but she put up a discarded idea in the Original WbA recently), which is why all her FF is on hiatus. My own (French Affair) is not abandoned, I just spent the last year writing another story, which is almost finished. Once I'm done with that, I'm going to pick TFA up again.

And Swim is updating Circular Reasoning. Just recently, check the WbA thread. He also rewrote the prologue. Though I think he said something to the effect that Fleur was not going to be a huge part of the story anymore ... I might be mistaken, though. Have to ask him if you want to know for sure.

Edit: What I'd be interested in, are you making any progress on the sequel to Dagger & Rose, Pers? Or are you too busy trying to get the Nobel prize? :p

The Nobel academy tend not to give Nobel Prizes in plasma physics, considering it too applied a discipline. (The last one in my discipline was to Hannes Alfvén in 1970, and he had a bit of an in, being Swedish).

I'm about 40-50k words into the sequel, so around halfway there. Like Heather, I've also been working on an original novel, as well as having written and sold a dozen or so short stories, so it's been put off more than once. When I get a draft complete, I'll look for betas, like before.

'Champions' has not been updated for about a month now; I wonder where the author went...

He did say that he was moving, but there would be an update a week after the last one...it's been two/three weeks+ so far.

A month constitutes a long time? That is somewhat impatient of you, Ichor.

Originally, he was updating about once every three days, but then that stretched into once a week. I'm just curious, is all.

Well, okay, I do admit that I am slightly impatient, heh. :)

No worries, Sesc, as long as you update something, be it "Flawed Perfection" or TFA, I'm happy. Just be sure to update one of them, so I can continue giving you awfully long reviews for each of them. :) Just please don't go off writing original fiction. I'm sure it'd be a blast, but we already have so many authors writing original fiction and therefore putting off their fanfiction projects.
I didn't realize CR got updated in the recent past, I'm still on the ff.net-update stage. I'll check out the WbA section for it. Thanks for the hint.

May I make a few additions to the list of Harry/Fleur fics? They haven't been mentioned in this thread yet (to my knowledge), but I don't know whether they have been somewhere else in this forum.

    One is "The Outlaw".
    Author: Tellemicus Sundance
    Chapters: 4
    Word Count: 28,084
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6001370/1/The_Outlaw
The story is kinda OotP-end AU. It leaves canon as it is and goes AU at the end of the fight between Voldemort and Dumbledore.

Next one is "HP and the World Beneath".
    Author is the same
    Chapters: 9
    Word Count: 48,325
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5528392/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_World_Beneath
This story is AU from the very beginning. It starts with Harry running away from home, flies through the years and the story really starts at the beginning of GoF.

Both stories are pretty good, IMO. The author's writing isn't half bad, and the stories are pretty interesting too. Both stories contain their share of clichés. In Outlaw, it's the Harry with a mentor, in World Beneath it's the Harry-runs-away-from-home one. Still, both have quite some original ideas, too.

Another one is "The Thief of Hogwarts".
    Author: bluminous8
    Chapters: 19
    Word Count: 113,438
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5199602/1/The_Thief_of_Hogwarts
This is more of crackfick, in my eyes. Again, has it's share of clichés, more so than the two before, but is pretty funny, and has a Thief!Harry.

    Title: "Runaway Wizard"
    Author is the same.
    Chapters: 2
    Word Count: 13,342
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6002564/1/Runaway_Wizard
Very AU. This is a Harry that never attended Hogwarts, but instead got special training from the Ministry, killed Voldemort, and then goes into hiding. That's where the story starts, and I quite like it.

Title: "HP and the Male Veela"
    Author: marciejackson
    Chapters: 3
    Word Count: 63,040
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6051874/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Male_Veela
This one is a post-OotP fic. Has many many clichés, and a lot of points that put me off, but looks kinda promising on the Harry/Fleur side of it. Though there is some poorly concealed foreshadowing of Harry being a male veela, I pray to god that this is a wrong interpretation, which puts me off even more. Still worth a read, IMO.

Yea, that's about it. None of these stories can compete with TLIL, WoT and others. Yet they are still a lot better than most of the stories of that pairing.

EDIT: Question. How do you put up a link without writing the link out? I've seen posts where the link is contained in words like "here" and so on. I'm curious on how this happens.

[{url= Link}] Write what you want here [{/url}]

Just take away the {_} and it'll work.

There's also the "Insert Link" button. :facepalm

It's the one that looks like a Globe. You just highlight the text, for example the word 'link', click the Insert Link button and then copy and paste the desired linkage.

The only new addition is "The Outlaw", which I will check out later. The others have been discussed on and off this thread. Use the search the thread tool next time, it's rather handy.

I tried the Outlaw, it wasn't bad, even though I tend to dislike stories that state the pairing in the very beginning on principle. I would recc a read for boredom if nothing else. Good H/F is slim pickins.

Slightly off-topic: 'Fleur' is on Gossip Girl now - and just as unappealing as she was in the films.

Although I did admire her figure (who wouldn't? She is a model, after all!) during the second task, I personally do not think that she was attractive enough for the character's role.

Nobody is attractive enough for the role of Fleur. She's not human, dumbasses. -_-

I agree with Seration on that one. She's not human, and if I'm not totally wrong here, I think it says in GoF that Veela are inhumanely beautiful. So yea, nobody has the looks o compete with Fleur.

What I meant to say, is that they could of used a better looking actress for Fleur. Even if book Fleur was supposed to be unnaturally beautiful, movie Fleur was a regular actress with no 'enhancements' (example, specialist makeup, CGI, scripted scenes with the allure etc).

Extremely beautiful French blondes are a dime a dozen. It was solely Rowling's gayfail oversight on character selection that fucked with the casting.
