What if Nicholas Flamel is not the only immortal wizard to walk on Earth in the modern days? The other one is the first creator of Horcuxes - Johann Georg Faust. Two of them are eternal rivals who by use of every possible means are trying to kill each other, but also they are trying to make wizard world to look as they think it should look. Most of time they are doing it by their students such as Dumbledore taught by Flamel or Grindelwald and Voldemort taught by Faust, but from time to time they take more hands on approach.

 

That sort of reminds me of the age old conflict between the Vorlons and the Shadows in the Babylon 5 universe; each have opposing philosophies, and they were trying to manipulative/forge the lesser races and the universe into what they believe it should be whilst trying to kill one another.

 

I got a plot bunny recently centering around a Harry Potter based upon Mordin Solus, but I don't think that I will ever write it.

Hopefully this will give someone else ideas of their own.

Work is kicking my ass* (fourth night this week I'm going to be working most of the way until morning). When I can come up for air, I'll get to it. It's on my list of things to polish and publish.

*On the bright side, I discovered a new concept for laser fusion energy these last few days. I have enough detail worked out to file the patent paperwork next week, but haven't written the high-profile manuscript. I'll be going public with the idea in two weeks at the big international meeting in Shanghai, so I need to get 'er done.

So, shitty plot bunny that refuses to leave me alone at night: Dresden/Star [Clone]Wars cross. There's no real way of doing it seriously, but it amuses me. "lol, droid army" sorta schticks.

So some Star Wars fans discover they have magic, and exploit String theory to form a Gateway to where Star Wars Universe is real. They go in, looking for some cool loot, while Dresden follows to stop them from doing crazy shit/try to reason with them before the White Council takes their heads. Of course, Black Council hears about this, sneaks an operative in to try and get Sith Artifacts that would help them wreck shit. Cue Hilarity.

This idea has several major problems, namely mechanics and avoiding Mary Sues/deus ex's. Like, "How does Dresden get on a ship without wrecking it forever?" I was considering that the Jedi at the battlefield he shows up at teachs him how to put himself into a near-death coma, which suppresses the Techbane effect, but that feels like a bit of an asspull to me.

Taking a page from Grimjack, who's to say that the Techbane effect actually interferes with tech in the world with the Force as a binding agent?
Isn't the essence of AU 'the rules have changed'?

I'm thinking about putting things together; I'm not sure whether to have Lily and James die 10 years before the Searing though, like in a mirror of the original Harry Potter events, or have them die during the Searing (similar to how Cynn's parents died) and have that event start Harry's forging into a warrior/leader (which comes to bear fruit dramatically with the battle against Abaddon in the Realm of Torment). Then again, the abuse that the Dursleys inflicted upon Harry during the 10 years before Harry's first year did much to shape his character, so if Harry did not have 10 years of hell, basically, would the resulting character be like that of the Harry seen in canon, the eventual leader/fighter?

So you're planning on a full-on merging of the two worlds? If I'm reading that right, that's what I'm picking up. If so...damn. There's just too much going on in both for me to imagine what it would be like together. The way I'm writing mine is as a crossover that takes place between GW1 and GW2, giving me a bit more freedom outside of the known plot.

 

Yeah, I was thinking about following the lines of Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North with Harry, Ron, Hermione and a few of the other more popular series characters 'in his party', basically. I've already got some rough notes on the characters and the changes, and what character is under the patronage of what god, etc, that matches with their personalities.

I really need to reinstall the games; I had to delete them to get some space back a year or so ago.

At the moment, I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series in its entirety and making some rough notes on characters and their interaction, etc.

If all goes smoothly, I'll probably start playing through Prophecies and making proper plans after I finish work on a Left 4 Dead crossover I'm writing. (Following 'The Sacrifice' comics at the moment for additional information on things such as "Carriers").

 

Hmmm...anyone follow Warhammer (or at least know of the Chaos Gods from Warhammer 40k/Fantasy) here?

I wonder why no one's ever thought about using the Chaos Gods in Harry Potter. (Not a fully fledged crossover, just the influence of the Gods like in Gabriel Blessing's Kim Possible story 'Ruinous' on ff.net).

There's a couple of stories on FFN. Unfortunately, they all suck, and all the other Warhammer/HP crossovers inexplicably have HP as a Space Marine and his twin brother as the fake-or-not BWL.
