I agree with Howdy. Why would he give up being a God? It's gonna be a lot like his Afterlife, only with more clouds and shit. Oh, and he'll be able to hang out with his cool dad forever, and still date his girl.

And what's even better, if his teenage romance didn't work, he could always ask his Uncle Zeus for tips on how to seduce comely young maidens or give gold showers to bored housewives, or just getting it on with a veritable army of chicks and dudes and anything else that moved (Zeus wasn't picky). Hell, his dad was a total manwhore, too; he could get tips from the best.

Also, he'd be able help people more as a God, including all the half-bloods he's best friends with, and save lives, and advise the kids, and make changes amon the Gods.

But that's not important, because he'd have two of the biggest pimps in Mythology giving him tips on get women. The rest of his life would look like a Lifetime Original Movie marathon. What more do you want, Percy?

Except that Zeus really didn't like Percy, he more or less barely tolerated him.

    But I agree.
    Percy should have accepted godhood

I think someone here said, don't remember who, that the whole point was never on being logical about Zeus's offer. It was meant to go as a lesson to all the kids reading it that great powers and all that are not what people need to be good people. Forced, but it's the state of affairs. And don't forget, that cool as Percy is, he IS 16 and he can't think very brightly if it doesn't involve chopping up monsters or hunting villains. Maybe he did believe that being a God would hinder him. I can imagine fifty year old Percy bumping his head on a wall repeatedly, cursing his stupidity, and then cursing his invulnerability for not allowing him to actually get hurt while headbutting the wall.

I finished the books (thanks CareOtters! :) ) and find Thalia cool, if a bit annoying, but I absolutely hate Zoe whats-her-face. I hope she burns in hel- Tartarus. I hope Hercules fully used the bitch instead of only stealing her oh-so-earned credit to getting the Apples. Boo fucking hoo bitch, get over it. Nico is cool on the last one-two books. Annabeth got on my nerves a lot, but not enough to warrant much hatred. Luke was fairly awesome in his villainous emo-state.

Try as I might, rationalize as I rationalize, I can't get over the fact that the fuss about the prophecy was whether or not Percy would give Luke the weapon to kill himself with. That sucked.

You hate Zoe because she wants the credit she rightfully deserves? That's the most retarded reason to hate anyone I've ever heard.

Thalia is much easier to hate since she's a bitch throughout the series, though that could be the genes she got from Zeus.

Zoe has also been a bitch throughout the series. And she has held onto a stupid grudge for more than 2000 years and let it define her, making her into the bitch she thankfully is no more.
I agree on the Thalia part though.

Zoe hates someone who ditched her after she'd given up her family loyalty, given him a sword, and helped him steal an apple from the place she was to protect.
I find no problem with her holding a grudge.
Hercules is adored by seemingly everyone in the series, so she's basically been betrayed and fucked over by the person who everyone loves, and most ignore that part.

What's wrong with hating an asshole?

Hating an asshole who's been dead for two millenia and still being a bitch about it is kindof pointless.

Plus, screwing with Hercules is a no no that most writers know not to cross.

I'm not really sure what the big deal is, they're both only prominent in one of the books and in the end
one dies and the other gives up any major plot relevance she has for the rest of the series.

Your thinking with the mindset of a mortal. Remember that Gods and immortal beings hold grudged much longer than mortals. Think for a second about how it would feel to be in her place. For almost two thousand years, she's been constantly reminded of how amazing Hercules is, even though he's a complete douche that totally screwed her over, even though she sacrificed everything for him. Also, who the hell are you to say that writers can't screw with Hercules? They can screw Hercules over all they want. Fuck Hercules and fuck his mother.

:awesome Sure, just tell me where and when.

Anyways, I like this series, and even began to write a fanfic where Thalia gets raped by the Manticore. But I got bored.

I think you inspired me: I have a quote of you saying somewhere that you wish someone would write about Zoe and Thalia "Getting raped up their retarded asses" or something along those lines.

I'd read that. Add Zoe somewhere in there and it'd be on my favs list.

I tend to agree with this. She more or less gave up everything for him, only to be treated like crap. Then she has to live for two thousand years with everybody going on and on about how great a hero he was. In fact, quite a few would be inclined to feel sorry for him because his life was ruined by Hera and he was forced to endure the Labours.

I can see how it would make somebody bitchy.

While I dislike Zoe for her cunty attitude, its understandable. But what surprises me more is that people see republic21 post and don't immediately ignore it after his questionable beginning. :|

BTW, just a reminder that the first book of the new series, 'The Lost Hero' is due out tomorrow. At least here it is.

I'm kinda ambivalent about the new series...the preview was pretty awesome, but it'll be weird to have Percy not be the protagonist. I suppose I'm also bitter regarding his
    rejection of immortality/godhood.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to read it when an ebook version is released (either that or go to the library) and post my informed opinion then.

Has anyone read RR's other series, btw? (The Kane Chronicles) I started to read the first (currently only) book in the series, titled The Red Pyramid, but I couldn't get very far. I can't really connect to the main characters; in fact, I kind of hate one of them. I'll have to give it another try.

I started to read The Red Pyramid but then got distracted by other things and haven't managed to get back to it yet. It wasn't completely horrible or anything, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as Percy Jackson.

Perhaps partly because I enjoy Greek mythology more than Egyptian.

I completely agree. There's just not that much interesting Egyptian mythology. Greek mythology seems so much more rich (maybe the epics have something to do with it?).

Picked it up but haven't started to read yet. It has a total of 553 pages, more than any other in this series.
