Yu-Gi-Oh was better.

Seriously. I stopped watching during one of the Johto seasons. The dull repetitiveness of the show, plus Ash giving up/giving away his pokemon... The show just lost me.

 

Ihave one thing to say to you, Cyclops.

Yu-gi-oh GX.

 

Yes, Oz, it was. It held my attention. Plus, it wrapped up its story in 4 seasons and ended. I can't say the same for the never aging, never changing characters of Pokemon.

Seratin, I never bothered with GX or any of the other spin-offs. I knew they were only made to cash in on the original shows popularity.

 

In Pokemon's defense, it wasn't horrible enough to spawn Yugioh The Abridged Series, which is significantly better than the original.

 

That's because you don't trust in the heart of the cards.

 

Almost every anime has an abridged series these days. The Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged just happens to be the best.

Yeah, and I understand why. The heart of the cards shit, shadow realm, friendship speeches, etc. Still, it was a welcome change for me from "Team Rocket's blasting of agaaaaiiiin!"

Pokemon was the first anime I ever watched. Yu-Gi-Oh is the reason I looked for more anime, and is also how I discovered manga. Without Yu-Gi-Oh, I don't think I'd have ever discovered Death Note, Naruto, Bleach, etc.

On the Pokemon topic, has Ash become a Pokemon Master yet? Or is he still running around losing tournaments?

 

Last I heard he was still twelve, and the show hasn't ended yet, so no.

 

I'd like to point out that Yugioh featured a magical card game, in which the cards' effects didn't need to be written on the card to use, or, if they were written, they could be written in obscure languages that no one playing would know. If a game like that existed in real life, every game would go like this:

P1: I now summon...Dark Magician!
P2: What does it do?
P1: It...wins the game. Game over, I win!

In similar news, I just lost the game.

 

Yup. At least, that WAS the case. A few years ago they put out four or five single cards that win the game whenever you play them, and another four or five sets that you have to use all of. Luckily I quit playing a couple years before this happened, back before the original series ended. I just used Exodia because that was the only one I could remember the name of.

Though those are just the ones that don't essentially end the game as soon as you play them, even though it takes a couple turns.

On the topic of Ash never aging, Yugi never aged either. Then there's the fact that without Yami, Yugi wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Ash became the trainer he is today through hard work, dedication, and patience, not through a stupid mystic puzzle piece. Ash also taught kids about humility and perseverance. He wasn't the best trainer around and he knew it, but he kept trying to become the best. Yami never lost a match unless he was forced to. As for the Team Rocket thing, they're not getting much time, if any, in the Black/White anime series. Yugioh is nothing compared to Pokemon
