Me neither, Oz. It seems the most natural thing in the world to me. Using the left shift key actually feels weird!

I always thought you were supposed to use the opposite Shift Key than the key you're capitalizing, so I use both...

It's a habit developed by usually using you right hand to manoeuver the mouse leaving only your left hand to operate the keyboard, especially considering wasd combination for most gamers.

I use both frequently. Nothing that special. More often the right shift key, but the left as well.

Tried to train myself to use both, but it never sticks, so right almost exclusively. Oh, and I'm right handed.

I've used it as a setchangekey in WoW for years, I can't sit by a keyboard nowadays without automatically having my left hand fingers (not counting thumb) at leftshift + awsd respectively. Therefore I've also used leftshift as a primary button for capital letters, since I already have my left pinky at the left shift permanently.

But I suppose I'm just damaged by gaming :awesome

Right Shift key almost exclusively. I do occasionally use left for gaming and such, but grew up typing with just right shift key, bad habit I suppose since you should really use both.

Left. I don't like looking right for whatever reason.

Left. It's how I learned to type, and I'm too lazy to change that habit.

I'm left handed, which probably actually explains why I prefer the left shift. I can hit it more accurately with my pinky finger when typing. I'm sure if I used the right one, I'd get about a 50% accuracy rating. It's also too close to the enter, so If I miss type I'm typing in half sentences a lot, or only one sentence at a time. I know when I was young I'd accidentally hit caps lock a lot since I'd miss shift, and that was a lot easier to fix when typing to someone or in game.

I miss ' enough as it is, don't need another key to hit often that's right next to enter.

I rarely use the right shift key because it's very close to the enter key. With a laptop keyboard, the right hand side tends to be more cluttered, so I barely use it.

Even when I'm typing with the left hand and eating sandwiches with the right, I use the left shift. I just stretch my thumb out to shit.

Lawl. I didn't expect you to make a whole thread of this. Shifty business.

    Left btw, like normal people.

Left shift. It's probably because my right hand is more mobile (trackpad, arrow keys, a bunch of the keys on the right for coding, various other special keys).

I had to test it out to see, but I'd estimate that I use the Right Shift key almost exclusively.

As an experiment, I am now trying to type and use the left shift key only for this post. It is screwing me up a LOT more then I expected it to. I've had to backspace a ton.

I seem to be entirely different to everyone else in the thread... I use both shift keys, but rather than using the opposite shift to the letter I'm typing, I use the same side shift. So capitalising A requires a left shift, capitalising O is a right shift...

You guys are fucking strange. It just makes sense to use the left shift key almost exclusively. If you're doing it correctly, your left pinky finger should be on the "A" key, which is just a millimeter or two away from the shift key. Your right pinky finger should be on the ";" button. The right shift key is like a button off and down from it. You would have to move your right pinky more to reach the shift key, which would be awkward, or you would have to move your entire hand over a space which would deviate from the normal hand position of "asdf" "jkl;". And space, obviously, for the thumbs. This would disrupt your typing speed...

Unless, of course, you just type differently.

The left shift key involves moving your pinky finger just a little down. Doing it any other way just seems needless to me. But I guess your hand would get accustomed to moving your pinky finger so far down and to the right that it wouldn't seem awkward to you. Just seems like a strange way to learn how to type.

Mostly the Left-Shift, but a somewhat comparative amount of Right-Shift when I'm full on typing. When just typing(such as in this post) I generally follow the rule of pressing the Shift key that is farthest from whatever letter is being used.

The mostly Left-Shift comes from, as someone else mentioned, when playing games, and moving/playing with just using the right hand on the mouse(such as can be done with varying degrees of success in Diablo II), while typing something with my left hand.
In such cases, the left pinkie finger uses Left-Shift, and the rest of the left hand can mostly easily reach across the remaining main lettered portion of the keyboard.

    Anyway, "Both" for me.
