I searched around for a bit before posting, I'm fairly sure there isn't another topic about this show.

Anyway, I've been watching Deadliest Warrior for quite a while, and it both infuriates and entertains me at the same time. For those who haven't seen it, here's a quick breakdown.

The idea is essentially to take different warrior groups from different regions of the world, different time zones, and pit them against each other in a simulation to determine who's the deadliest out of the match up. So for instance, there was a match in which the Vietcong were put up against the Nazi SS.

It's a really interesting premise, but there are problems. Many, many problems. The entire basis of the show is comparing the two opposing sides weapons, and nothing else. Tactics are rarely if ever taken into account, same with terrain.

However even the weapons comparison is fucked. The way they actually take the data is, well it's too stupid to really explain. Suffice it to say that the scientific method is firmly ignored.

I honestly don't know why I watch this. Everytime I sit down and switch to it, it pisses me off, but I keep coming back.

Anyway, if you're interested, they've got a couple episodes up on their website.

Dude, I have the same problem. I both love and hate this show. I love it because I find it fascinating and I love just learning more about different styles. But I absolutely hate how it tries to quantify them. Any martial art or style is only as good as the individual practitioner.

The major problem with the show is that there is no historical basis for a lot of what the show does. The weapons they assign the different warriors are often completely inaccurate, either from the wrong culture, period or just plain made up.

The so called experts that appear on the programme, well try looking them up. The only google results on them are for appearing on Deadliest Warrior, nothing else.

All in all, its a terrible show, with a vaguely interesting premise. However, even the premise is flawed. As was previously mentioned, tactics are not taken into account. So for example, the show that pitted a roman centurion against someone else, can't remember who. The problem there is that the reason the roman army was so effective was that it worked by en masse tactics, not individual combat.

I remember that episode, I raged when watching it. They didn't even arm the Roman Centurion with his shield. What the hell? Even disregarding the group tactics, Roman warriors completely depended on their shield. Keeping it out of the comparison would be like cutting off your right hand, then getting into a boxing match.

THIS. Not to mention they often ignore weapons completely. Green Berets come to mind when they decided to not have them use a semiautomatic shotgun even though it has been in use for quite some time.

They often ignore certain weapons entirely just to show a difference between the two opposing sides. Alexander the Great should have kicked some serious ass in his battle, but he lost. That's right the guy who steamrolled over every army on the face of the earth lost due to weapons. Let's not consider his flair for strategy and doing absolutely insane things like building a causeway during the middle of a war just so he could march his army over to the island and kick its ass.

In short, I hate this show so much. The only thing decent that came out of it was the chain mail pwning the shit out of the katana.

I pretty much agree with everyone in this thread. It's a good, interesting show, but the fundamental flaws seen in it pretty much ruin it.

Look it entirely depends on a simple question, are you looking at this show for accuracy or entertainment? If your looking at it for accuracy your going to give yourself an embolism, I look at this purely for the entertainment and nothing else.

But its not entertaining, because its so blatantly wrong. If it was only slightly wrong, or missed a couple of things, then I could accept it and enjoy the show. But they do everything wrong. There is no upside to the show, therefore its not entertaining, in the least.

I always thought of DLP when they mentioned (in every episode) that the program they used to fight the warriors was made by Slytherin Studios.

I was personally disgusted that they didn't pit ninja against the pirate (in the first season, which was all I watched). Pirates versus knights, really? Real pirates probably would've ran off to their ships, or if they had their pistol handy, shot it at the knight's face (and then ran). The lack of tactics in nearly every situation was what really made me lose respect for this.

It was indeed hilarious as fuck but my only real problem with it was the fact that you just knew that the IRA was going to win from the second it aired, not because of guns or anything that they're hilarious "computations" figured but for the simple fact that you know not a damn person involved with that show would have the nuts to show a victorious Taliban standing in front of a burning bus on TV.

What they don't tell you is that "Slytherin Studios" was originally "Slytherin Strategies", and is a game company.

Still irritates me they gave the IRA the flamethrower and not the RPG.

What annoyed me most about that episode was that they ignored important parts of the Knight's amour. Underneath that platemail (which a single pellet from the improvised shotgun got through) would have been chainmail and an inch of leather. The entire episode was retarded.

I'm still surprised to this day that it took that long for me to realize the show was retarded.
