    <_<

I think the three sixth years, Miley, Ashley and Vanessa are supposed to be references to Ashley Tisdale, Myley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens.

Which makes it even more auto fail.

    edit:

Can't tell if I'm the abomination for recognizing the references, or if the story is for using them.

    Either way, I lol'd.

Yo, I don't care what teenybopper movies she's been in, because I'd still fuck the shit out of Ashley Tisdale. No shame in knowing who she is.

Personally, Hudgens is my favorite out of the bunch.

Oh lord, I'm picturing this devolving into 'Kill one, Fuck one, Marry one.' :facepalm

Whoops, I could have sworn they were first year students though. Oh wait, they were in disguise when they first entered, weren't they? Well, that's what I get for only skimming the story.

I can easily see where the desire to skim this one would be strong.

Is it just me, or is the quantity of even 'Almost Recommendable' stories gradually decreasing?

Nah, you're right. This thread hasn't really been that active (neither has For Review, for that matter). I'm going to have to try and search some stuff out and see if I can't contribute some reasonable recs.

I doubt a lot of people actively search these days, and even then they only search what is recently updated which, as we are all aware, is declining in overall quality. There's always the potential of missed gems so searching fics from > 2 years ago may yield something worth reading, even if it means a lot of incomplete fics. I'll try and have a look around once I'm finished the new Golden Sun game which has largely stolen my post-exams attention.

I read more Naruto than HP these days.. >.> Harry Potter is really being over run by slash and bad crossovers, and it makes it hard to find good new stuff. If I'm feeling some HP I usually go to the WBA thread.

(sigh) Sadly enough, everything new these days seems to involve either (or both) Harry and Draco's orientations suddenly doing an unexplained and OOC 180, or Harry shacking up with Snape. :facepalm

    Manifesto, by Kilted.

Harry gets some memories from the future due to the Time Turner episode, but he doesn't get to keep most of them. He writes himself a "manifesto" to change his behavior. Kind of eye rolling, but it could be worse.

The dialogue is shaky in places, but it's readable enough that some people here might enjoy it. There was one line from Harry to Hermione in the first chapter that made me stop reading, but I went back and tried it again and I'm glad I did.

Although it hasn't out and out bashed Dumbledore yet, I think it's dangerously close to heading in that direction. Also, the author seems to have made Snape much nicer than he is in canon, which is rarely a good sign.

Just to forewarn any shipper die hards, it looks to be heading towards H/HR, although the author has said he doesn't intend to pair Harry with anyone.

I read that for a while, was "Untitled" before. Despite some obvious problems with the characterizing and some weird sidetracking with gas/water the plot feels fresh and interesting. It's definitely worth it if you can ignore the weaknesses. IMHO it's a contender for review.

No, mate it's really not. It's so bogged down by useless trivia that it becomes unreadable. The major differences with canon are ignored while what Harry had for dinner and how he cooked it and how he went shopping for ingredients are the focus. There is no action and Harry does nothing even though he remembers there is a war coming next year.
I left the author a detailed review but I don't think he/she will change anything.

Well, he works on getting the Horcruxes and teaches himself the Fidelius to protect his new home. A home which he only got by his own action by bullshitting Fudge. As OC the whole setting was it was new. Hermione's condition also needs effort on his side so I don't think that's really fair.
I agree that sometimes the details work is hit and miss but the effort of the writer is there to create some fresh setting which doesn't feel too forced where I'm at least curious where he plans to go.

Detail in a story is good (the sheer amount of stories that I've read that are so skimpy, a size 0 model has more meat on her bones on FF.net is astounding!), but too much (and to stress, useless) detail is just taxing on both the reader's eyes and patience.
