Well, that sucks. I thought the show was really starting to pick up, it was starting to get quite good and I expect the back half of the season to continue that. Shame that there won't be a season three and that the story will likely be left hanging. Maybe MGM will give it a direct to TV/DVD movie.

The thing is...aside from more wrestling, what is SyFy going to put in there that will earn ratings anywhere near SGU? I know SGU's ratings this season have been poor, but they're still better than most things on that network.

Eureka? Warehouse 13? Neither have ever had to run head to head with the top network shows. They do well in the summer, sure, but can they compete against NCIS or Dancing With the Stars? Their ratings would drop a good bit too.

The new shows? None are proven in anyway. They may be a success, especially the vampire one as vampires seem to be so popular now (but will this hit too late with so many other vamp shows already established?)

Dunno, I just don't see anything else they got doing the business. At least not without weakening those shows by moving them to SGU's slot.

Then again, SGU was expensive to make, probably more so than most of the other shows.

They'll fill in the blank with more shit that doesn't fit the network. I've never actually turned on syfy randomly and found something worthwhile to watch.

It's kind of like The History Channel (or just "History" now. Fucktards.), I turned it on the other day and actually saw something on Hitler, I was amazed.

I'll miss Rush though, he was pretty interesting. Greer was amusing if nothing else. The rest of the characters annoyed the living hell out of me.

I'm kinda disappointed; SGU has its flaws, but overall I think it's decent enough and doesn't deserve to be canceled. And on top of all this, it's going to end on a cliffhanger? -_-

All accounts (Various actor/writer blogs and Twitter) says yes. Big cliffhanger, like last year's.

Well, it sucks that it got cancelled, but I'm not terribly surprised.

Can't say I'm surprised. SGU hasn't really been able to fill the shoes of Daddy (SG-1) and Big Brother (Atlantis). I do hope they come up with something new in the same franchise, though. I hate having it end like this.

    Well, that's disappointing.

I actually liked this better than SG:A. I loved Rush and Greer, and I wished Eli got more development beyond being "Math Boy", though that was still enjoyable.

Never really cared for Colonel Young though, or any time anyone was whining about getting back to earth really. (which I realize was a pretty big plot point.

I can't say I'm terribly surprised that this was canceled however. It was sort of Star Trek: Voyager meets The O.C..

Rush was what kept the show afloat as long as it was, IMO.

Yuk, Warehouse 13, the worst tripe I've had the misfortune to check out besides the titanic "The Event" the last years.
They all share really bad actors, dialogues and scripts written by trainees, let's not forget the intentionally bad computer backgrounds in W13.
I'm really wondering if their target audience for that show were the channel's beancounters to see if low production crap attracts enough desperate people to make it profitable. If the show wouldn't have some kind of violence I could see them targeting at kids, but....

I agree but the loathing for SGU from the SG1/A fans on the internet was huge. SGU from the characters and actor quality is far beyond those older SG shows which weren't better than SF fastfood. Sometimes even really entertaining but just no real substance because you couldn't take the actors serious. Basically John Wayne in space without the Duke's charisma.

Since Babylon5 and partly Deep Space I can't remember any great SF show on TV the last 15 years. Is it so hard to look for some great SF book material and get professional ark writers on board to help with a show's backbone?

I tend to agree about Warehouse 13, watched it once and thought it sucked. But apparently it gets good enough numbers for Syfy during the summer.

I think SGU was significantly different than the other two shows, and certain aspects of it were far superior (most notably the visuals).

It perhaps lacked some of the charm and certainly the 'simplicity' of SG1/SGA and had a different brand of humour.

I think if SGU had gotten it's full 5 year run, I believe that it overall would be much better than even SG-1. The first few seasons of SG-1 were crap, save for a few episodes.

I think it may be for the best though if the SG franchise takes a bit of a break. It's been on the air for quite a long time now, after all.

As for your last statement...did you completely miss the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica?

To say the truth, I actually forgot about it:)
I still need to see the last 14 episodes from the last season. Though I really enjoyed the gritty atmosphere and interesting characters during the beginning I got the feeling during the 3rd season I think that the show really went nowhere from a plot/ark perspective but wasted more and more time on the psycho/emo/soap for the sake of drama aspects.

But just compare it story wise with Babylon5. B5 surely couldn't compete with the production values of BG but the depth of the characters, the imagination of the world, a lot of their actors and their complexity(GKar, Londo,...) and its ark is unmatched to this day.

If SGU had a full five year run, the last two seasons would have consisted of an empty ship.

There's only so many crew members you can throw away to random death scenes before that finite crew starts to look pretty sparse.

Argh, I freakin just started watching this--finished the first season not a week ago. Why does this keep happening to the interesting shows? <--(rhetorical question) Should I even bother watching the second season now? :/

Well if you liked the first season, or even thought it was just okay, watch the second anyway. Despite the fact it's ending in ten episodes and will probably end super duper unfinished, I'd recommend watching it.

Lets see how they mangle all the plotlines to make a series finale.

You mean the finale that's already filmed before the cancellation news hit, and thus doesn't have an actual conclusion because the writers didn't see it coming?

I doubt that would be a problem...

I hear that in the back half of this season the SGC is in negotiations with people from Jonas Quinn's planet to use it and connect to Destiny.

So they'd probably at least get some new people over there to fill up the ship.

    Fuck.

So we're going to be left hanging with plotlines hanging in the wind.

    Fuck.

So essentially they'd take the only thing that really makes Universe so special, and ruin it?

..Huh That's an idea. They could chuck some Naquadria onto a Naquita rich planet and create their own chain reaction to fuel the gate.
