For all we know, Orochimaru used the Fourth's tomb as a fake way to punk out Sarutobi and insure neither the Shodaime or the Nidaime was stopped.

 

Either that, or he was doing some research on the dead and how to bring them back, possibly from having lost people close to him. As it were, we don't know if the realization that a living person must be sacrificed was made by Tobirama or Orochimaru. Orochimaru probably found some of the Second's old research and built upon it. It was probably much less savage, and less effective, thus not to Orochimaru's liking.
In any case, we have too few info to make anything more than speculation.

Some respect is due to actual explanation as to why badasses like Jiraiya and the Fourth weren't resurrected. It would certainly be like Kishi to leave such plot holes open.

 

Plus, the ANBU seemed to know what the Edo tensei was, at least its theory. Seems to me like the technique was dubbed forbidden even as an idea, from the Second. Orochimaru just built up on that.

 

Orochimaru didn't know how the Fourth's seal technique worked. He likely never even thought that the Fourth was out of his reach.

 

Question: We see Orochimaru using a talisman to control those resurrected. And there is a two hour chit chat between the Hokages before Orochimaru used the Talisman(s?). What stopped them from turning, slapping the Talisman away before it reached them, and just obliterating Orochimaru?

 

It would be a stupid and suicidal technique if it didn't give you some degree of control/protection from those you've summoned before inserting the seal tags.

 

The seal tags just erase the personalities of the resurrected person, nothing else. The jutsu itself is what gives the control.

Heh, the Omake is hilarious. That's exactly why Naruto's clone spammy learning self wouldn't work in part 1.

Interesting how the good Zabuza stories have merit, though. And Neji and Hinata have a combination attack? Cool.

 

I for one, am really glad that the Edo Tensei isn't going to end up with everyone just tipping their hats to their friends/rivals/whatever and skiping off back to death. I thought Kabuto was pretty cool in this chapter actually, deliberately baiting Madara like that. His control over the souls in Edo Tensei is far greater than what I was expecting.

Chiyo's been resurrected too - looks like she's seen Tobirama use Edo Tensei before, or at least knows from hearsay that Tobirama has used it.

And of course, I'm looking forward to the Kakashi vs. Zabuza redux...

 

But it still won't be a legitimate rematch, since Zabuza is, y'know, an indestructible zombie, controlled by Kabuto.
And yes, it was nice to see some zombies manage to get away by emotional surge, but then get down to business. That bad-guy-stopping method has been used to death.

Fun as it all is, it seems a bit filler'ish to me. Instead of the dozens of matches between zombies and good guys, how about we have our Sasuke/Naruto and Naruto/Madara/Sasuke fight and be done with it?
Much as I like Naruto, it's starting to feel old and stretched out.

Except, y'know, how Kakashi can simply make Zabuza vanish by looking at him. Of course it's not a legitimate rematch. Besides, its not like one was needed; Kakashi was very clearly the superior in both previous matches. Baring getting caught off guard once, Kakashi pretty much outclassed everything Zabuza had to throw at him.

 

The only way this rematch could be really interesting is by having Zabuza trained by King Kai in his afterlife.

 

Pretty much. A least Kankuro's rematch had some tension in it. Granted Sasori made a pretty pathetic showing before dying to Sakura puppeteered by a senile old lady, but Kankuro is the Sakura of Gaara's team.

 

More like trained by Old Kai. As outclassed as Zabuza was in the beginning of the Manga and how Kakashi has improved quite abit himself; I think Zabuza would need a Mystic Gohan type power up to even keep up with Kakashi.

 

I can't help but think that Kishi's going to steal even more from DBZ now. Not that it would make the manga any worse than it's getting.

Hmm? Does that make Temari the Sasuke of that team?

 

How did you reach that conclusion? Gaara is the Sasuke of his team, Kankuro being Sakura and Temari being a much smarter Naruto.

 

he was thinking Gaara = Naruto because of the jinchuriku status...
