"If that's how it's going to be, I'll just be the bad thing that happens to bad people."

Epic line, I like were this is going.

That was finally addressed, somewhat at least:
"Bullshit," he strained against screaming, jaw clenched. "That's exactly what I thought after Pallet burned. That's what I said after mom died, after Aisha died, after all of my friends died... I got through on that lie" he held his fists in front of his face, arms trembling as he screwed his eyes shut and went rigid. "I'm sick to death of telling myself it will get better! It never does and every time things start to look up the world finds a new way to screw me! God I'm sick of all this shit!

Yea, really good chapter. I liked it, though Janine seemed a little random, but whatever. She is a ninja after all, and they need a ninja to infiltrate shit.

I know that I just disagreed with the reasoning behind it. It isn't that big of a deal though. A minor complaint.

    Nice update.

There was a lot of angst but I think that was expected, given that by that point the fighting was over and Ash was alone with a friend, etc.

So long as we don't get another major angst scene I think it was quite well done, and somehow I don't see Ash continuing on in this vein for several chapters.

I think I missed the Munchies joke, unless that was in reference to Munchlax (who I thought was named Oz).

    Good stuffs.

Awesome update. If only this fan fiction was the show. :( This would totally be the theme song.

    Updated.

Elm on the side of an invading force to Cinnabar, riding the Red Gyarados? Mewtwo sending Ash into Silph Co, and mentioning bringing back the dead? Oz evolving?

    Epic.

That chapter was just brilliant. Seriously. Go read it now if you haven't.

Also, Clepsydra needs to change his name back to Oz again. Otherwise 50 will have to visit the name rater in Lavender.

Was the Red Gyrados the one that destroyed Pallet? I don't remember.

Also, I wonder if this means that Oak is on the Johto side as well.

Awesome chapter was awesome. I straight up lol'd at this line:
Without nodding, Ash glanced at the pokeball on his belt. "Oz didn't do anything but sleep when I let him out. Normally he's running around like a maniac trying to eat everything in sight."
I think I've run out of words to adequately describe how amazing this story is.

@DarthBill: I shouldn't think just because a Professor is one on side, the others would join him. If anything, you'd assume that since Elm presumably caused the actions of the Red Gyarados back at the start of the story, Oak might decide to help out the defenders to get a crack at him.

Although, Oak and Elm were chummy in the games...

Can't wait for some more action around Ash. Hoping for some epic urban warfare in Saffron. Ash and Sab tearing through TR sounds fun, yes?

Oh man this story is awesome. And the song mentioned above makes it even better.

I'm both terrified and looking forward to Ash's rampage through TR as he goes to get Sab out. considering the violence level we've seen so far from this fic, this is going to be awesome.

With respect to the legendary Pokemon, it seems to me that the overwhelming majority of opinion ITT is that they're massively uber (e.g. forces of nature) and it's unlikely that they can be caught.

    I take the opposite opinion.

50cal said it in one of his A.N.s: some of the powers given to Pokemon in the anime and referred to in the Pokedex are ridiculously strong. It's hard to think of any kind of realistic mechanism by which those powers can act. My general feeling from this fic is that Pokemon aren't supposed to be magical: there are meant to be physical, chemical and biological mechanisms which give rise to their abilities.

I think 50cal feels this way as well. In the AN he said that he found the speed quoted for Pigeot in the Pokedex to be silly and would require the Pigeot to have "muscles running on fusion power".

So yeah. The legendary Pokemon are probably extremely powerful, but I doubt they're going to be anime-style forces of nature.

More generally, with regards to the fic: I loved the start. I've found part 2 not to be as good as part 1. The world he's created was awesome, but to be honest I'm beginning to find it a bit tiresome. There's only so much CONSTANT DANGER a reader can take before become desensitised and frustrated.

I had a similar problem with Jesse and James. While they were more vicious and competent than the anime, by the 5th or 6th time Ash had been ambushed by them in exactly the same way with the same Pokemon and the same tactics and still fell for it, and still managed to be on the back foot despite having better Pokemon and more numerous Pokemon, and still managing to get away but not without a very bloody injury and a poisoned Pokemon, I got a bit tired.

In short: conflict is good, but repetition isn't.

Except for Mewtwo, Groundon/Kyogre, and the giant green dragon, I would have to agree with you. Mewtwo because his very power is "magical" in a way, because honestly the ability to "read" minds and move objects from miles away is so haxxd that I don't see anyone really getting the drop on him without having ADD, and anyone who didn't get the drop on him would need a really fucking huge ass army/super technology (a la Team Rocket in this story) to fuck with him. G/K because they are fucking huge, if I remember rightly in the pokedex the picture of you vs. them makes you look like an ant. Which if he stays true to that size would mean that they could literally walk into a fortress and walk out without noticing much more than you would stepping in an ant hill. (example of what I am talking about: Groundon's solarbeam would be so huge as to take out a small town, simply because of how big his mouth is. He turns it up and uses some large scale fire technique and it would probably be enough to take out some of the largest cities in the game) Ray-something not only shares the same size problems but also he can fly and apparently can take those two out. (though the last point is just from what I heard on the anime and so could be stricken from the arguement pretty quickly)

All the others are either too small for me to see them being a super hax pokemon (Entei, Suicune etc.) or could theoretically be taken out with a pokemon or two of roughly the same size (Lugia, Moltres, Ho-oh etc.)

Except for the pokemon that are, you know, God or directly related to God.

I basically agree with Hello - The game mascot legendaries (Mewtwo, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, 4 of the 4th gen pokemon (the mascots, the ghost dragon and the god pokemon)). Ho-Ho and Lugia might not be on the same level as any of them, but they are probably a step above everything else.

You have to remember that in every format Ho-oh brought Suicune, Raikou, and Entei back to life. Considering the fact that Lugia is it's direct opposite the same powers could probably be attributed to it. Of course if you take Pokemon 2000 into consideration it takes very little imagination to think that Lugia could have done the same thing with Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos since according to that movie Lugia is their counterpart.
