Looking at this stuff, it makes me laugh whenever some retard buys their stuff at a box store.

I put together almost all of my PC 4 years ago, and it still kills the shit out of most stuff. I have friends that bought computers for double what I paid, and it was struggling playing games on medium when it still had the new store smell on it.

Always build your own stuff, always.

Sweet. Very similar to my computer, only better.

    Graphics card?

Made a minor upgrade to my ~3 year old system.

    Case: Antec 900
    CPU: Q6600 @ 3.2ghz
Video Card: ATI 6870 HD [formerly 8800GT]
    MB: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
    RAM: 4GB generic DDR2-800
PSU: Antec TP3 650W [Retarded cable management done by me]

It's going to be quite costly upgrading to Sandy Bridge when the time comes for me.

    Current:

Processor: Intel core 2 Duo, 2.13GHz
    RAM: 2x1024Mb
    OS: 32-bit Windows 7
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1300/1550 Series (256Mb)
Sound Card: SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio

    Hoping to upgrade to:

    Processor: Intel i7 870, 2.93GHz
    RAM: 4x2Gb
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 (1Gb)

in about 6 months (providing nothing changes too much in terms of what eprformance is offered by manufacturers)

I have a question, however: For graphics-heavy CAD/CAM (atm, using Solid Edge ST2. Will likely be using the latest AutoCAD next year) and gaming (using Mass Effect 2 as a marker) what would the optimum Processor-RAM-Graphics combination be?

Bear in mind that I only have a limited knowledge of putting computers together, and mostly rely on paternal knowledge (and he's been having a fair few issues with overclocking recently).

Seeing how far behind I am makes me .

CPU: Intel T9600 overclocked to 3.2ghz
    Ram: Four GB DDR2
HDD: Internal 300 GB for game installation files, external 10 TB esata array hooked up to my network.
    GPU: Nvidia Geforce 260m-stock clocks
Screen: 15.6 inch integrated, 32 inch LCDTV external.
OS: Windows 7 ultimate edition/Ubuntu dualboot

This is all on a laptop mind you. I actually just finished doing some repair work on it. Some how one of those windows 7 stickers got stuck in one of the vents, I couldn't figure out why the hell my GPU was at 107c. Opened everything up to find a half melted sticker.

    It's okay.
    I'm much worse:
CPU-Intel Core 2 Duo-2 GHZ, but its supposed to be equivalent to 2.8.
    RAM-3 GB
HDD-250 GB, 5400 RPM, plus an external one that's another 250 GB.
GPU-Mine came with a Nvidia one, but I'm not sure which one. It sucked, though.
    Screen-1200*800
    OS-Newest edition of Ubuntu

Basically I got this computer, but for only 999 instead of 1500 (the model of it I chose was that price), because I got a student discount. I was a massive newb (even more than I am now) at computers so cut me some slack for getting Vaio. It wasn't that bad of a deal at the time, as this was 2 years and 10 months ago.

STOP COPYING THE FACT THAT I'VE POSTED HERE, YOU BUNCH OF FAGS.

Taure: Haven't decided yet. It'll probably be an ATI card with Eyefinity, so I can use my PC with my omgsuparl33t Apple LED Display. By the way, did I mention I was getting a new Mac too? Another i7. Fuck all of you.

Ha, pretty big wasted investment when I first hooked it up. No one was really uploading HD at the time, so I pretty much filled 2 TB with TV shows and never used the rest.

These days with TV series coming out with 30 GB+ per season file sizes, it's pretty useful though.

It was a pain in the ass to setup though.

    Hurray Christmas Upgrades!

    i5 760 @ 2.8GHz
    8gb DDR3
    640gb HDD
EVGA 470, Superclocked (thing is a space heater)
23" Samsung with 2ms response time

Once you make you first one, everything from then on out is easy sailing. Runs a lot better than the one I built two years ago.

    Uh.

    I also got a new MacBook Pro. 15" Core i7 @ 2.66GHz. 8 GB of RAM, and a high-resolution, anti-glare screen.

    My knob is enormous.

    i7 + 6GB RAM =/= suck.

Unless it was made by Apple. Then they're just wasted components.

The only state that doesn't suck.

    Yeah, sucks.

The one laptop I have is a Dell Inspiron circa 2002. 128mb RAM, 10gb HDD, no idea on the processor speed but I'm sure it's awful. Still holding out hope that I get one of the CR-48's.

The hell? That'd be a good desktop, let alone laptop. I'm rocking a 2 GHz dual core with 2 gigs of ram and a 120 GB hard drive+integrated graphics. And it's only 2 years old. Your laptop sucks, sure.

MY i7 was made by Intel. And my RAM by Crucial. So not wasted. At all.

Also, we need a trollface smilie. :|

It's been a couple years since I've upgraded, but this thing was a fucking monster back in the day (it still runs damn near everything at 1080p with a conservative use of AA). I don't remember all the stats, thus CPU-Z is all I have to check them.

    CPU: Core 2 Duo E6850 socket 755LGA (2x 3GHz cores)
    Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Ram: 4Gb DDR2 (4x 1 Gb sticks running Symmetric Dual Channel)
    Videocard(s): Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 (Essentially 2x Geforce 9800s running in SLI)
Sound: SB Audigy (I have decent speakers, but I don't have any stats on that)
Harddrive 1: OCZ Vertex 2 240Gb SSD (Added this about a month back and have windows and a few games installed on it.)
Harddrive 2: WD 2Tb Green drive (for media storage of things like... movies? Not pr0n! Really!)
Monitor(s): Asus VK278 Monitor (2x 27" LED back-lit monitors FTW. BTW, my brother is awesome. Best Christmas gift, ever.)
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I'll leave out all the boring stuff like DVD-RWs and stuff, but I must note that my Microsoft SideWinder X8 mouse pwns, and I like my Xbox 360 controller. Also, my case is glowy and shit (blue), which is a feature I will NOT be duplicating in my next computer.

I know, I know, I need an upgrade. I've been waiting for the new Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs, so I suppose now is the right time, eh? The question is though, what video card? Hmmm...

    *Runs off to do research*

Edit: I should also note that a I have an external 2Tb drive for other shit, and a 8Tb RAID 5 setup in my basement as a media share (5x 2Tb Raid 5 = 8Tb).

Seeking advice... I'm changing my casing soon coz I found major difficulty when I clean my CPU recently.. The casings I'm looking at are

    Coolermaster:
    HAF X
    HAF 912 Plus
    NZXT:
    Phantom

    Suggestion and recommendations?

And I'm upgrading my cards soon. I'm eyeing GeForce 470 or should I go straight to 580?
