    Title: Harry and the Hobgoblins
    Category: Harry Potter
    Character(s): Harry P. & Luna L.
    Words: 5,812
    Genre(s): Humor/Adventure
    Rating: Rated: K+
Summary: Harry discovers things far more dangerous and cunning than even the
traitorous Sirius Black. Written for Perspicacity as part of the Sober
    Universe Yuletide Fic Exchange
    URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6619152/1/

A decent story by Respitechristopher, the author of the Mercurial Trio series (one of the better next-gen series out there and a loose sequel to Lady Altair's one-shot). Harry/Luna pairing, set in Harry's third year. I like it, though I'm biased, since I received the story in a holiday gift exchange. If I were to criticize anything, it'd be that Harry is a little too credulous. Still, it's quite well written and a good story in a pairing with too few solid offerings.

When I ran Slackware (nix) for ages and ages this is the word processor I used and it was fantastic. I hope you can find a Mac port of it.

Title: Harry Potter: Other People's Magic
    Author: Mr.Ragtop
    Rating: T
    DLP Category: General
    Pairing: None so far
    Status: Work in progress
Summary: What if surviving that Halloween night left Harry with less magic of his own, but with other abilities instead? Follow Harry as he learns to borrow and command the magic and energy he sees all around him. A different Powerful! Ravenclaw! Harry tale.

While the author has a tendency to rationalize magic he is able to keep the feeling of wonder in discovering a new world, which was lacking from the later half of the series. The premise is that Voldemort tried to possess Harry before vanishing and Harry's magic lashed out, damaging his 'core'.

Even if the device is somewhat forced, and the earlier chapters are filled with some cheap angst, the story picks up when he reaches Hogwarts and we see Harry attempting to learn how to use his magic, and to learn all the school has to offer.

The story lack the seriousness we would find in the latter years, but the interaction between Harry's roommates is enough to keep up the lighthearted humor one would expect from growing up in a magical school

While I was reluctant to put this up in the Review section, I feel the story deserves it's spot in this thread, and might bring an hour or two of entertainment for everyone.

I notice you can't do better. Go collect criticism for somebody else. Take the links down.

lol. Looks like someone has a problem with being criticized.

EDIT: It also occurs to me that he wasn't even insulting your story. He was recommending that people read it.

Seriously? Don't put your fic on the internet if you don't want criticism.

Secondly, what Blaise said. Now take your overly sensitive self and go cry to your therapist or life coach about how the people on the internets were mean to you again.

I have left these two reviews, for chapter 2 and 5 of "Other People's Magic":
Now I am unable to leave review of chapter 7, to say that the author should consider removing this sentence: "Total time, three point eight seconds".

Dear Mr.Ragtop, you have begged for reviews and asked for a beta in the author notes of chapter I've read. Then you have blacklisted me from reviewing your story. You will never become a better writer. I suggest counseling. I have never done anything for the lulz, I have not attacked you, I did not trash your story. I have tried to help. I see now that you are beyond help.

I'm sure this fic was posted in For Review a few days ago. Someone posted saying that they thought "the author" (likely themselves) would benefit from reviews and constructive criticism. I remember writing a review.

The thread must have been deleted. Ah well. Our Library team is clearly very efficient.

My bad then. I did search the website before posting, but I can see why I didn't find it if it was deleted. Maybe we should start a thread with deleted stories names, to avoid this situation?

Not your fault. There is such a thread, but Ragtop's story isn't listed in it for some reason.

So, they (the reviewers) are giving you genuine and constructive criticism which can be used to improve your story, of which is also why the whole 'Review Story' function exists, and you're throwing your toys out of your pram because they're not telling you what you wanted to hear? (See ego boosting).

Either "Ragtop" is a troll, or he's a complete dumbass.

    I'm leaning towards the latter.

No they're not. Excluding Wolf's and Fiat's reviews, there has been no sort of constructive criticism; just variations of "I like this" and "Good job!"

By reviewers, I meant Wolf and Fiat specifically, and since they actually gave him constructive criticism instead of the atypical/pointless ego stroking reviews that are prevailant on fanfiction.net ("Good job, dur!"/"I like this, derp derp!") of which he seems to be craving, he threw a tantrum?

    Linkage FTW

This is a sequel to a story that I've already posted here. Considering they are of similar quality decided it should probably be here too.

Prequel is Harry Potter and the Descent into Darkness.

You know, you could have mentioned that it's a slash fic.
