I'll keep that contest in mind, but ultimately an editor's job is to make the call on what goes in and in what order. The other problems are if you have stories where the general public can get to them, you essentially have free fiction unless you use a password protected forum, which I set up already. Of course, the final problem is that I'm not especially popular with certain admins on this forum.

Thanks for the comments in this thread and to any who leave reviews on Amazon. In the world of fanfic, it's a nice kudos and the only "payment" we can really receive. In the real world, you've spent your money and it's the authors who should be grateful for anything above and beyond that the readers do for them.

The response so far has been very good. Initial sales have been impressive (almost 50 kindles and 20 paperbacks). Those are strong numbers for an anthology. To give you an example, I've got a short story in an antho called The Scrolls of Anubis from Library of the Living Dead Press. It came out in paperback (hasn't launched the ebook version yet) and it peaked around 170 thousand on Amazon's sales charts and has now drifted back down until it is ranked over a million now. This antho has gotten all the way down to #13,692 in the paperbacks and as far as Kindle goes, it is still near the peak of #1285. I haven't had something that ever broke into the triple digits before and this antho is on the doorstep of doing that.

I just finished reading it. It. Was. AWESOME!

Seriously, I enjoyed every story. The Quantum Garage Mechanic gave me a little headache and Hell's Recruiter was a little too fluffy for my tastes but I absolutely loved Pest Control and Incarnation of Empathy.

Also, Joe's Upon Crystal Shores level of epic has gone over 9000.

Bought the kindle version, haven't really gotten around to reading it though.

By the way, is there any sort of list of which story is which fanfic author's? Pers mentioned what name he went under, but I can only guess about most of the authors real names.

I'm happy you stuck with the list you did, Jbern. Please, no Dom/Sub!Twilight authors in your anthologies.

I'd rather not have to deal with Kindle DRM, so thanks for that.

Just got my first debit card for the purpose of buying this. I just read Pers' story and thought it was awesome as hell, and I'm about to read Joe's.

EDIT: Joe's was fucking awesome. Why didn't anyone mention that it was the story he posted a part of on DLP? I would have bought this way earlier if I'd known.

EDIT 2: I enjoyed the shoutout to the Denarian Series in Shezza's story.

Thanks. I hope those of you purchasing it enjoy it and come back to review it on Amazon. Sales are going strong and we're closing in on 250 sales in only 2 weeks. For a small press offering and an anthology at that, those are really strong numbers.

Someone asked for a list of contributors. Here is one that matches the table of contents.

Got a Kindle for Xmas. This is the first thing I bought.

Edit: Just got through Pest Control. Really enjoyed it. Am I correct in assuming there were length constraints? Only noticed a couple grammar mistakes, nothing bad at all. 4.5/5 for that bit. Would love to see it fleshed out more.

Generally, I put a cap at 10 thousand words. Boomerang and I think one other went over, but by then it was okay because of the number of authors participating. When it comes to short stories, most sites are looking for stories that deliver the goods in 3-5 thousand words. Very few take stories up to the "accepted" definition of a short story (7500 words) and even fewer allow authors to go above that. I wasn't so worried. With the next anthology (New Faces of Science Fiction), I may have to be more of a taskmaster if more than 15 authors want to participate.

Bought it last week for Kindle on Mac because I thought it would be easier than smashwords. I think I should have gotten the ePub instead; Kindle formatting is severely lacking.

Really awesome stories. What else can I say?

The work from the less-known authors was actually a pleasant surprise.
Blot's story was a great hook for the anthology. Meteoric Shipyards' had a dark little twist at the end that I didn't expect based on his FFN work, but it works well given the theme. Pers' went over my head for a bit, then I realized I skipped a few paragraphs because Kindle is stupid.
    J:awesomee. That is all.

My only complaint is that this anthology seems like a massive plate of hors doeurves. You can only have so many before you feel fat and guilty while craving moar. Also, some stories feel like just a small fragment of something incomprehensibly awesome that has yet to be written (hint hint, Joe, Shezza.)
That said, I'm still working my way through the actual "horror" segments.

Definitely worth the three bucks and it's great to unwind with this after exams. I'd love to read more anthologies like this or just more work from these authors. I'm looking forward to New Faces of Science Fiction.

Who said it has yet to be written?

It's just really, really shit at the moment. Heh. Well, not shit, but in severe need of editing. The bones are there.

As for anthologies, there was talk half a year ago of a DLP anthology, which is something I'd happily contribute to. Did that idea fall on its ass?

hmmm, I wasn't aware of this. Sadly I have little time in the next two weeks to read anything outside of coursework, but once that's done I will purchase it.

Heck, never thought I'd see the day where I could 'support' my friends on here by buying their stories. Good job guys, gal. Proud of ya.

Joe, let me know when you find out about DLP Anthology. I'll contribute too.

As a matter of fact Joe, you were the last one to post there. Truth be told, I bought this anthology because it's the closest thing to a DLP anthology I was likely to find. Seeing as how that thread died out, I wanted the opportunity to contribute even a little towards some of my favorite authors from DLP.

As for one of the concerns in that thread, I am one of those legions of fans who won't take the time to review, but that is primarily because on DLP everyone already says what I want to say. I don't want to be a bandwagoning whore by parroting "update moar!", but I can contribute by paying money. Despite my unemployment, I've taken the opportunity to donate to DLP, and buy the anthology.

Rest assured I would buy a DLP anthology the moment I found out about it, despite some reluctance to leave reviews. I would happily buy anything published by Perspicacity, Joe, Shezza, Nuhuh, Jon, enembee, Sesc, and more than I could easily name. As a matter of fact, after discovering how easy it is to pirate ebooks, DLP authors are probably the only ones I'd be willing to shell out money for. Guaranteed quality and all that. :)

Heh. Cool. Maybe when I get some free time I can try and rustle up some interest in a DLP anthology. It would be awesome.

In a lighter note, can I encourage everyone who has purchased this anthology to leave a review on Amazon? It would be vastly appreciated, as all reviews of DLP caliber are, and I would consider it a personal favor, to do with as you may...

And yes, that does mean I will suck your cock.
