I don't get it. It's just a checkered cardboard (?) figurine (with a weird bowtie thing running about two adjacent surfaces). What's the big deal?

 

It's an optical illusion. The 'box is only three pieces of card held at angles that make it seem as though it is a full, six sided cube. It's not the most difficult thing in the world to comprehend, dude.
