The thought came across my mind earlier. I don't think there is another thread discussing this, I did search it, but I found nothing.

Why is it that no one does a relatively serious fem!Voldemort. I've never seen it. Would there be differences at all? Or would the Dark Lady have problems or triumphs her male counterpart avoided?

I think Voldemorticia :)confused:) might have problems with followers, I assume that the Wizarding World include sexism with their rather medieval regime, but, perhaps not.

It would certainly have cut down slash had Rowling made Riddle female though... If only.

    Your thoughts?

There's a fic with a serious fem!Voldemort that's - well, not good, but definitely almost recommended material.

It features a Harry who ends up, by the actons of Voldemort, in a gender-reversed world. In a rather bizarre twist the world not only has switched genders but is extremely matriarchal. I think the author was trying to be clever by pointing fun at patriarchal culture, but he went so over the top that his society really doesn't work as the reductio ad absurdum he perhaps meant it to be.

There are a lot of problems with the story, but most of them are issues with how little sense the world he created makes. If you can get over that the story is entertaining enough to be enjoyable. The characters are fun and the plot reasonably engaging. And Harry kicks some serious matriarchal ass.

Unfortunately I can't remember its name.

On the topic of sexism: it doesn't appear to exist in the wizarding world. We know of female heads of Hogwarts and female Ministers for Magic. This makes sense. Presumably the dominance of men arose in our societies due to disparities in physical strength. In the magical world physical strength doesn't matter - only magical strength, and that appears to be invariant between genders.

You know what else would've cut down on the slash? Sticking to canon pairings.

There are no fem!Voldemort stories because it makes as much sense as male!Molly Weasley stories.

If you want to make a statement about patriarchy and sexual discrimination, find another way.

Speaking of that story, I fully expected Harry to get gangbanged by women :sadface.

Sticking to canon = one slash couple.

Not sticking to canon = most of ff.net.

Hero, what? Sometimes sarcasm must be made abundantly clear.

Okay, just a disclaimer, but like everyone else on this board, I hate slash. That being said, the reason most slash sucks ass is because its written by whiny 13 year old girls who obviously don't know the first thing about writing.

The other ones suck because they're slash, but the point still stands. If the fandom actually made an effort to put out well written, well plotted slash, we probably wouldn't hate it nearly as much as we do.

With the way the fandom is now, slash in a story is almost certainly an indicator of how shit that story is going to be.

    Fixed.

Not knowing a damn thing about writing if an affliction shared by the 13-year-olds who don't write slash.

No. Sticking to canon 'pairings' would have left us with Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, etc. Canon 'orientations' is the right phrasing. Mans needs his Harry/Fleur.

If Tom Riddle had been a girl, Dumbledore would have just killed the bitch after she opened the chamber of secrets instead of pussyfooting around and praying his new headboy wasn't evil. :awesome

While we're on the topic of gender bending, I'd like to formally complain about the lack of Harry/Fem!Harry stories in the fandom.

It makes about as much sense as Harry/Snape, Harry/Fleur, and female Voldemorts failing in their progress toward world domination due to sexism on the part of their minions.

    What story is that?

Harry/fem!Harry makes sense because it gives people an outlet for a desire to bed their opposite gendered counterparts. I doubt Voldemort wants to bed Voldemort, no matter how long a snake either of them have. Hence, if, and it's a big if, you want to make a fem!Voldemort, start at Hogwarts or thereabouts, and end before dark magic has really begun to take it's toll.

Alternatively, if your intent is to explore how disturbed people have sex, you could always do a Voldemort/Bella, or something to the effect.

And if you want to explore the issue from a feminist pov, then, frankly, it's probably too ambitious an undertaking. Also, as previously stated, there are easier ways of doing it.
