Mine has always been a Dante's Inferno/Harry Potter crossover, with the trio munched on by the three mouths of Satan on the frozen 9th circle of Hell. Voldemort, you see, was the resurrected Son of God, a being somewhat less benevolent than we've been led to believe. I toyed with titling it "Revisionist history sucks."

I'd like to see a Harry raised by a redeemed Grindelwald. I know it's not much but everyone clamors for Grindelwald the unredeemed, but I'm talking about he one at the end of DH who has basically become 'good' before being AK'ed by Voldemort.

Somehow, he gets loose, and learns of Harry, so he gets Harry and raises him as his own.

That's not a bad idea, considering the moral ambiguity of kmfrank's Grindelwald, and the otherwise complete lack of fics with him as an important character.

I've actually planned to write something like this, way back. Of course, like all my other projects, I overplanned and overplanned and oooh look over there shiny new Cripple!Harry plot bunny, I'm going to write about that oh and look at my three pages of notes and Oh OH I know! I'm going to write a Vampire!Harry story, and make it good unlike all the other Vampire!Harry stories, and so on and so on.

So yeah, chances are I'm never getting it done, and I would find it awesome if someone reading this decides to do so.

Grindelwald is faaar too underused a character, IMO.

I think I'd prefer to see a Grindelwald who has been moderated by his time in prison - I very much doubt that he will let go of the values which he holds closest to his heart. However, if he were to go about his plans in a more controlled manner, i.e. non-violently, it'd be interesting to see where the story takes it.

Or, perhaps, an AU where he never went rogue on Dumbledore, and the two of them succeeded in their plans, and the knock-on effects thereof. Perhaps, a Riddle who has no need to resort to a Guerilla war, and instead becomes a leader in the Gindelwald-Dumbledore heirachy?

If these have already been done, a linky would be awesome.

    EDIT: Cheers, Sesc!

I actually plan on writing a fic somewhat like this. Except with a lot of Warhammer 40k themes. If I can get it right it'll be epic.

    Yeah . . . that'll never happen.

Riddle would likely never become so embittered in that system, as he'd quickly be recognized as a wizard. Still, you could have him as a secondary figure due to his intelligence/power.

I was browsing the Just in section when i found a HP/LL fic... sadly it turned out shit after the first paragraph, but it gave me an idea.

What if Harry in his infinite wisdom recognized that Draco's help would be very useful in a word he has no knowledge of, but in the mean time he didn't want to blew his blossoming friendship with Carrothead. So he seeks out Draco some days later to apologize. Here would be a time break and the next scene would be in fifth year with Umbridge interrogating Harry and his friends with the Inquisitorial Squad holding down them. Harry signals to Draco, and when Snape barges in Draco tosses Harry's wand to him and he incapacitates Umbridge and so on.

After that comes a lot of revelation, that Harry is friends with a lot of people from other houses, from the outside word even with a few creature too.

This could be anything from Humor to Drama, perhaps a cool Political!Harry...

    (300th. YAY!)

That sounds like a rather difficult thing to hide, even with an invisibility cloak.
    Still, I wouldn't mind reading a Gryffindor!Harry who doesn't mind crossing house-line boundaries.

Also, why would Snape stun Umbridge? Unless she was about to Cruciate Harry, but in canon he wasn't a witness at that point in time.

I agree. I could see a situation where with Lockhart's help (read: obliviating), Harry is able to cover up some crime against the Ministry or maybe prevent a Death Eater from catching on to the Horcrux hunt. It could lead to a situation where Lockhart would either gain Harry's trust, or alternatively, blackmail him into joining his quest for glory. After all, he would need some new material for his next book.

    New idea.

Death Eaters vs. Order of the Phoenix

Both of these organizations were not created by Voldemort and Albus. They've existed since legendary battle between Merlin and Morgana, and are much more structured and powerful than these showed in canon.

DE have the Council of the Ancient Houses that choose a new Dark Lord when the last one is killed or captured. He has much power over DE, but even he must be careful how he deals with the rest of the council, because there is only so much he can do without their support. They all have common goal - to rule, but that doesn't mean they are not ready to kill each other if they see other one as weak or dangerous to their own plans.

OotP is different. Most of times it's one leader that recruits the best of the best from wizards who are on the light side and they follow him in their crusade against dark wizards.

Both organizations are operating on world wide scale, not just in England. What public knows as the first war with Voldemort was just more visible fighting in this part of the world than others.

After disappearance of Voldemort, the new Dark Lord was chosen and that was his reason to be so quite in Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts. He was basically fighting a civil war within DE to once again become the one and only Dark Lord.

I can see fic done from two perspectives. The first one - Voldemort as he's fighting with the other Dark Lord and his supporters. And second one - Dumbledore as he's trying to make this war as bad as possible for the both sides to make the whole DE much weaker when it will end.

I vaguely recall one fic where Harry and Hermione (and maybe others) went down into the trapdoor passage after first year, though it may have only been to reminisce.

The reason the Chamber is used so often is, first and foremost, because Harry is one of only two people capable of even entering the outer door (without tearing the castle apart around it or coercing a phoenix to take you). That's some fairly decent security, especially if your main concern is keeping the teachers out of your business.

Also, the Chamber is depicted as being much larger. So, if it's a large base of operations you're looking for, or you are involving lots of people in your plans (the DA), or you're attempting a dragon animagus form (lulz), then the Chamber is clearly superior to the first year passage.

And, since it specifically belonged to a Founder (who kept its location from even the other Founders), instead of merely being a disused passage, there are all sorts of opportunities for the author to include various books and treasures left behind by said Founder.

Also, most of the teachers in Hogwarts are intimately familiar with the third floor corridor trapdoor's location, and the rooms beyond, and there's nothing keeping any one of them from going back into those rooms if they think there's something going on in there.

Also Voldemort knows about it too... but, unlike the Chamber, he could send even a student, like Draco, to breach that one, since you don't need to be a Parselmouth to get in.

It would have to fight the same thing that DM/H or Hr stories do: It doesn't change that Draco's an arrogant little shit who clings to racist ideologies. Even if Harry weren't friends with the 'mudbloods and blood traitors' that Draco hates, Draco's beliefs still wouldn't sit well with him, because Harry is a decent person.

Conversely, even if an eleven-year-old Harry were mercenary enough to 'make friends' with Draco, simply as a political move, Draco wouldn't bite for long, what with Harry continuing to consort with 'filth.'

Not unless you change Draco's philosophy. Otherwise you end up with something nearly as contrived as DM/Hr.

Even if Draco were dumb enough to buy an excuse like, "No, I'm only acting like I'm friends with the Weasleys and Granger." he'd eventually catch on. And I'm not sure Hermione would be as close to Harry when she sees how he's perfectly willing to pretend friendship with someone for his own gains. How would she know he's not friends with her for the same reasons? And Ron just plain wouldn't put up with any excuse for befriending Malfoy.

Of course, at least for the Death Eaters, they wouldn't have always gone by those names.

The Death Eaters, in canon, were inspired by/used to be the Knights of Walpurgis.

I've had two decent ideas come to me:

    Light Lord Potter:
After the final battle, things settle down, but not much changes. The pureblood supremacists temporarily back off, but a few years down the line they start pressing again. Harry, seeing this, and getting really pissed off that all his work is basically coming to naught, decides that a massive sociocultural revolution is in order. He uses his fame and/or power (I'd say Hallows, but they're a rather contrived plot device) to gather himself a dedicating following and attempts to forcibly reform the government.
Several changes to the end society that I had in mind, which don't necessarily have to be followed:
Dementors get thrown into a volcano, or something
Elimination of institutionalized discrimination based on blood
Massive reform of the justice system

    Assassin Potter:
I know similar things have likely been mentioned a couple of times in this thread, but I'm thinking more in the vein of having the following AU:
    No horcruxes
    No hallows
War against Voldemort is protracted, with a more even political angle - the DE don't manage to seize the ministry, but both sides are fighting within it.
After Harry finishes Hogwarts, he goes to fight the War in earnest, and quickly becomes frustrated with the lack of progress. So he decides to take matters into his own hands and starts killing off important political, monetary, and combat units of Voldemort.

Your first is pretty much one of the stock post-Hogwarts HP/HG plots common on sites like Portkey. Hermione is the classic "über talented, but hits the blood-status glass ceiling" character and it's usually some combination of Malfoy or some other Slytherins pushing a pureblood-centric agenda.

I don't know if it's because that idea is incredibly awful or incredibly lulzy, but I did an irl spit-take.
