Looks like the last Countdown with Keith Olbermann was tonight. It's done, over with, gone.

Fuck.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the Countdown with Keith Oberman?

 

The worst/best, and most retarded/most enlightening cesspool/show on the MSNBC network.

I didn't. My feeling's about Keith's show are pretty ambivalent, but I always assumed he would be there.

This is weird.

 

Maddow's been outshining him for years. I far prefer her calm, rational arguments to his bluster.

That said, Moving Laurence to the 8 PM slot and keeping Rachel at 9 is a serious dick move. He's had his own show for what, a month? Give the primetime slot to someone who has shown that she deserves it.

 

I did too, but it became increasingly obvious over the summer through November that KO's personality wasn't meshing with the network. The end result of this clash was his November suspension. Olbermann has been going downhill for years and, while his Special Comments were ratings draws, it's hard to call your network credible when you have a certifiably insane misogynistic megalomaniac screaming hypocritical jeremiads into the ether each night.

In light of this, it is my sincere hope that they also drop Pat Buchanan from their pundit rotation.

JTP: Yes, but Maddow uses facts. This is almost always a mistake in news reporting.

 

Pat Buchanan and Morning fucking Joe. Both need to go. I can't believe KO is out though, what the hell.

Ya I had him getting out of network Tv for awhile now, he'll probably end up on HBO with Bill Maher or something like that.

TMZ says Comcast shit canned him due to how vocal he was about net neutrality being very important.

 

Well, this sucks. While Olbermann hasn't exactly been doing well, he does occasionally make sense, and he was one of the few commentators that occasionally leveled rational criticism. To see him canned - particularly like this - isn't a surprise, but it still does make me wince. Ugh. Maybe he'll now finally have the time to go on Jon Stewart for that long-awaited meeting.

And while Maddow is good, she's also... well, I find her grating, and a little annoying. Olbermann at least sounded eloquent even when he was raging, and he was able to apologize when he did overstep and do or say something stupid. And his more recent comments (particularly his rational criticism of Obama's tax compromise) were actually quite intelligent.

So I guess the best left-wing commentator left on air is... Jon Stewart, a damn good comedian. That's sad.

Also: so yeah, Mid, if you could kill the thread I started in Politics about this, that'd be nice of you.
