I'm betting that at least a thousand of those subscribed are secretly Hello, and he was just being modest.

Back in the day, I'm thinking 05-06, we were quite hated by the majority of the fandom. Now things have calmed down somewhat and DLP became less extremist, to use a word that doesn't really apply to fanfic sites.

I think, rather, that people subscribe to the C2 either not knowing or not caring much about the state of the community, as it does have consistently high-quality fics in it.

As far as I know, Blaise is right. DLP is seen as a group of hateful, spiteful snobs who flame "quality" slash authors and don't have the decency to keep their opinions of the beauty that is Harry/Ginny (much less Harry/Draco) to themselves. A quick check of ff.net's stats shows that Harry/Draco has 27,430 fanfics with Harry/Ginny at 14,859. Every other Het pairing that is listed: 20,584*. So you have twice as many fanfics for two pairings that generate stereotypical kneejerk hate in our members** than all the other Het pairings combined. I think it is safe to say that we are the minority, and a highly vocal one at that. Vocal minorites tend to be hated and we are no exception, especially when one of our perceived pillars of the community (anti-slash) is in direct opposition with mainstream fanfiction. td;lr I don't think we (DLP) are attracting new people as much as revitalizing the lurkers and the strays.

*Number does not include Female!Blaise as I was not going to read every half baked story to check for gender

**I realize that a number of our member openly/secretly love/tolerate good Harry/Ginny stories, I was just using an easy meter in an attempt to prove a point

@GL: No actually, I might have over 2,000 email addresses but I couldn't be fucked to add them all, and now that I know the consequences of doing something like that there is no way in hell I am going to attempt it.

@Everyone who set my ass on fire: Sorry guys for worrying you and I am going to be a lot more careful from now on when reading posts and answering the call of DLP projects.

Great Odin's raven! Why would anyone have or need 2000 email addresses.

Or, ya know, the fandom has aged a bit...DLP is no longer the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" it was...

We should correct this grievous error.

I think almost everyone has overlooked the more worrying aspect of this situation. DLP rising quickly through the ranks makes sense, considering the number of lurkers and the newness of the C2. But Potions and Snitches was created in 2004, and over that time accumulated about 1600 subscribers. Then DLP usurped its longstanding position at #2, and suddenly their subscriber count increased by 200.

The enemy has issued a call-to-arms of their own. How shall we respond?

That won't work. If we kill them, then their emails will just lie around but still be registered as subscribed to the C2, not reducing the membership count.

What we need to do is take their families and pets hostage, and threaten to kill them in order to get them to unsubscribe.

And then kill them all, and let <insert deity here> sort them out.

I assume, tbh, that the person who's running the C2 merely checked his subscriber count after a long period of time, much as I just did. FFNet has a stupid system where if the admin becomes inactive, the C2 grinds to a halt. I imagine if BlitzkriegAngel ever logged in, IDPH would fly up.

I doubt it. Having checked his profile, his last update was yesterday. It's pretty likely that his C2 is at its correct number.

Which will make it much easier for us to take the #1 spot.

How much would it suck though if we got to the top and then BlitzkriegAngel checks his C2 and suddenly we need 500 more subscribers?

Seems like the type of thing that would happen to a minority. Give something... then take it back.

I just updated on FF and left an author's note on top and bottom of the chapter with invitations to join our C2. I hope it gains us some more signatories. I haven't updated the story for a while but it had a decent following.

Just get Raven to update and then leave a note and we'll win.

We hit 2000 subscribers today. Also I added Sesc's FF.net profile to the C2 Description as the winner of the January competition.

How is the C2 going to work with regards to contest submissions (assuming some good ones aren't from featured authors)? Will a first or second place fic still need to be put through the For Review process?

One hand, you could say it's already been judged, but there's also the argument that the greater DLP community won't have vetted it.
