Not in SMP, no. Supposedly it would take a LOT of effort to get this working (singleplayer mods like Mo' Creatures can't be ported over just like that).

Hogwarts staircases and "scheduled" should never be used together. They are supposed fuck you up and make you wait or take you to the wrong floor.

Also, it shouldn't be difficult. I don't know how mods are created for Minecraft but a simple rand function should be available. If not, one can always be created easily.

Isn't there a squid mob already in the game? Would it really be that hard to scale it up a little?

There is a Squid, but as to blowing up the size... I'm not certain its possible. And the MC community outside of DLP is... Not good with people skills the same way as mknote is not good with any skills and most of them are 95% more pretentious than all of DLP combined. Valuable advice is few and far between.

Although, I suppose it would be possible to skin the current mobs. Replace the skeleton with a zombie for inferi, replace the current zombie or even the creeper with a dementor...

Edit: Also, I intend to start working on the ground floor of our Hogwarts project later tonight. Anyone who wants to help out is welcome to join. I think it's a general consensus to use this series of maps.

 

There was talk of random staircases.

Could activation switches/zones be placed in random spots around the castle that affect the staircases?

Mhm. Blockdoor lets you define zones that could be defined for any defined 'door'. So theoretically, its doable, but it would only trip when someone passed the defined zone trigger or pressed the switch trigger.

All in all, it would be easier and less over all work to simply define the zone at the staircase itself so that it swaps when you need it, since random zones would trip when no one is around to marvel at it's seeming randomness.

Although, I suppose its also theoretically possible that we could build a enclosed room to put all of the staircase zone triggers into, and lock a cow or a chicken in it....

Naturally, that would not be within the castle. Maybe we could make the shriek shack and use it for that purpose...

Edit; That map doesn't look bad, Nuit, but the one I linked is ten separate maps, one level per map.

Also, finally got around to getting the commands for the server in an easy to read web page. I'll try to keep it up to date. I don't have the basic hey0 commands in it yet, but they will be added soon.

Eh, I don't think the Hogwarts staircases are necessarily random, just complicatedly scheduled. But randomness would be fine, too. Locking an animal in a room switches might work; we just have to make sure that it wouldn't despawn.

7ate9: yeah, people have tried to make Hogwarts before, but like you said, it looks more like a fancy castle. We want to make this as legitimate as possible.

I've got a decent place for the castle set up now. If you're gonna get on and help, tell Silverlasso (retired_dragon in game), and he'll add you to the hogwarts usergroup. There is a warp to take you there after you've been added:

/warp hogwarts

Likely you will have to dis/re-connect after the change.

I'd do it myself, but Im going out to take care of a few errands.

 

I think you'd need to sit down and decide how many blocks each map is before fucking around with it. Get minecraft structure planner, you can build it in there in layers.
