On tff the idea that the gourd could be used to take the souls out of the zombies to instantly beat them came up. Thoughts?

 

Its an interesting line of thought. In theory it should be possible so the idea has some merit. It could even be Kishimoto's intention, but then we all know better than to try to guess Kishimoto's intentions.

Personally though I'm trying really hard blank these items out of my head- I find the whole thing really contrived and unnecessary. Considering what the powers of the rin'negan are and that the sage was supposedly by far Nagato's superior I can't see why he would even need these 'legendary tools'.

They just seem like a gimmick to give someone else the sage's powers to me.

As for the chakra absorbant twins who spent two weeks in the belly of the beast- is the chakra in question the same malevolent, ultra-corrosive chakra that burnt things to cinders on contact? Or were they vacationing in another Kyuubi?

In reality, Kinkaku and Ginkaku were two demon brothers in the Chinese folktale Journey to the West, which is quite well-known and popular in the far East.

Incidentally, Son Goku from DBZ was inspired by the main character (the Monkey King), which is the folktale protagonist's name in Japanese.

The Kinkaku and Ginkaku demon brothers were famous for using a mystical gourd with which they tricked travelers into giving up their souls- in the same way that the Naruto versions do. In fact, it's pretty much lifted straight out of the folktale. They were defeated by the Monkey King, who in fact tricked them into sealing themselves into the gourd. It'll be interesting to see if Kishi sticks to this.

The fan is another mystical item from the original story, owned by Princess Iron Fan (different versions have the fan made of banana leaves or metal), and the fan had powerful magical properties. In the original Journey to the West, the Monkey King had to go ask the princess for the fan in order to stop a friggin' volcano from burning out the countryside. Anyway, since Temari already has a metal fan, that leaves... well, the banana leaf fan.

As a Naruto author looking for new characters to play around with, I'm fucking disappointed in Kishimoto right now. More than usual that is.

He creates two people with amazing potential for awesome, then has them simply be conduits for a couple of mythical artifacts that'll likely drop into Naruto's lap later down the road. I agree with greywizard, contrived and unnecessary items are contrived and unnecessary.

Then why are you reading Asian manga and anime? Because you'll find stuff like that in a lot of it. Like how you find Western literary references in stuff like Sons of Anarchy, Superman, Batman, etc...

Then do what I do, or rather am currently doing. Edit the characters, the back-story, relationships, the background, etc...

Example:

Hidan. In Canon, he's a priest of Jashin, does some fancy tricks with his triple scythe and gets owned by Shikimaru. In my story? he's the high priest of a long-dead cult that was the reason the Uchiha and the Senju finally got together after decades of conflict, is affiliated with Uchiha Madara and raises the dead and summons demons in attempts to spread his god's influence across the continent.

It's a fic I'm working on. Working title is Cranking it up to Eleven or Ultimate Naruto, but they definitely won't be the final name.

It's basically an entire re-imagining of the Naruto universe while keeping true to the basics. Dozens of characters are re-imagined, their backgrounds changed, countries and villages either edited out or altered, etc...

Hidan's Arc is like the third mission arc I've finished and the 4th overall, and it starts a month before the the Chunin Exams (which neatly removes Team 7 from the examination) until the month of training. Key words here to stimulate thought: Shion, Hidan, Madara, Jashin, Team 7, Yomi, Moryou & Juugo (these three potentially), zombie army & blood rituals.

The other arcs are the introduction arc which is designed to introduce my interpretations of Team 7 and affiliated characters and their initial relationships and attitudes towards one another, then a C-rank mission which is based on an OVA and being the first real combat situation for Team 7. Then is the first test of my writing, a re-imagination of the Wave Arc which I think I've made into a very awesome version. :awesome

The only problem is getting down to writing out anything besides the basics. So far I've written most of chapter 1 in chunks, and I want to write entire arcs before putting it out here on DLP before sending it fanfiction.net

 

No chapter this week? Usually it would be up on mangastream by now.

NVM, its up. Darui fight still in progress, though the ending was pretty boss. Looking forward to nine tails fight. Might have to deploy the eight tails, methinks.

 

It sort of turned out how I thought, but the whole nine-tails transformation isn't making me happy. There had better be a very quick and obvious disadvantage to this state, especially seeing as the bros were both killed eventually and they're not even close to true jinchuuriki.

If it's significantly different from the cursed seal change then I will be disappointed. Because, frankly, as powerful as this guy gets from "transforming," Naruto should be 1,000 times stronger when he utilizes the actual Kyuubi chakra.

 

Well, it really depends on whether a major or minor character defeats him. For all we know, someone's sitting around with one of those 'seal' tags that Yamato had.

 

I doubt Kinkaku will be able to use this ability and live. He'll probably fuck up a couple of no-name ninjas, get stalled be a name character and then disintegrate.

 

Well this sucked. Five tails, from being eaten for one week? Seriously? If that is how new villains will be from henceforth, then I'd rather we stick to ressurections.
That said, overlooki g that fact, chapter was cool, if a bit short and fillerish. I don't think Darui can win this fight. We'll see how it goes.

 

It was interesting to see Kakuzu's reaction to seeing Kinkaku's transformation. Did any else get the feeling like he was speaking from experience?

"I cant remember how long it's been since I've seen Kinkaku do that, someone must have taken out Ginkaku."

If he was the one to take them out back in the day, and Naruto was the one to finish him off then it wouldn't be much of a fight if Naruto took the field against the Gold brother now. So whoever said Naruto was going to be taking the field when Itachi and Nagato do is looking increasingly more likely.

 

wait does Itachi even have eyes anymore, because i thought Sasuke got them or am i remembering something else?
