    From initial blog post:

I realize the unlikeliness of this venture is high, but hell, if Fillion or Whedon (or perhaps if a random billionaire was a die hard firefly fan), the potential for awesomeness is just....:awesome

It's a nice idea, but seriously, 300 million. Child's Play has barely made nine over eight years, and it's got quite a few heavy-hitting supporters and is all-around a much more marketable idea.

Not 300 million per se, Fillion only said he would buy them as a first thing if he won that much in a lottery.

As for the idea - nice one, but any success depends on how much the rights really cost.

Chances are not even a tenth of that, they point out that the rights for a Terminator series cost 30 million and I assume Firefly would be seen as less valuable

Ah, fair enough, disregard my derp. Still, it smacks of putting the cart before the horse to me - Nathan Fillion really should have been approached for his OK before they started trying to gain momentum and attract pledges of support. I don't know whether they're just shit at planning or what.

Yep, it would suck if he couldn't back up his word, but being the geek that he truly is and how he values Firefly more than even Whedon, I would hope he does. Thanks to twitter and all that though, he's probably had the site linked to him dozens of times, so I imagine there should be some sort of reaction/response from him or his people within the next day or so

Not to be a complete negative Nancy, but really? Firefly is done, and bringing it back would most likely result in the series extending into BtVS-like dragging, "Please God Make It Stop!" levels of failure and AIDS. I'm sure Fillion and Whedon could team up again and churn out more entertaining/sustainable ideas, instead of dwelling in the past.

That said...the people of Detroit did raise the funds for their Robocop statue, so I wouldn't be surprised if this campaign saw some success.

Firefly was a big pile of "meh" anyway.

From what I've seen of interviews and whatnot, pretty much the entire main cast consider their Firefly days to be the best fun they've ever had. That's probably his reason behind being willing to jump at the chance to start those days back up.

I do wonder how much of the Firefly magic is in the Buddy Holly effect, and whether the Browncoats would be the goddamn insanely dedicated cult they are today if the music hadn't died.

Don't get me wrong, if this worked and Fillion got the band back together and made new episodes, I would watch the shit out of them - but I doubt the chances of this getting off the ground, and I do wonder whether there's enough life left in Firefly to resuscitate it. They did burn through like two seasons worth of plot on the movie - Still Flying made 29 episodes out of it.

^ No point in bringing back the series. New episodes will probably suck and tarnish memories of old ones.

Better to just create a new and potentially awesome series. Not like that fucking Cape. Which sucked.

This. I mean, I can see its appeal, and it could have been cool, but the fan base. Jesus, I'm usually not one to hate a thing because of the fans.

But Jesus Christ, faggots. It was above average at best, and not nearly worth the hype it gets. Farscape was a hell of a lot better. Hell, I dont like SG1 and its better.

...Surely, you jest?! Farscape was an awesome old show that used to come on Sci-Fi, with Claudia Black and Ben Browder...

    Oh, Vala & Colonel. Mitchell.

Also, meh. Those aliens look retarded and the plot hasn't hooked me.

Fucking this. I acquired *cough* most of the episodes and tried to watch it. Other than Claudia Black being fucking hot, even back then, I hated the show. None of it appealed to me. Like Hash said, the aliens looked fucking retarded and the premise didn't really hook me like Firefly did.

Seriously, I could see us all speaking a horrible hybrid of Chinese and English in the future; China has most of the world's population, after all.

What would be the fair price for Firefly?

The Movie was good, but is not making any "Best Movie List" Are there any paperback books and what are the sales numbers. The comic book is not burning up any sales charts.

I think firefly was "the best thing of it's time" and it was sad it was on fox, But I don't think it would have lasted a second season on any network.

If it was so good, why didn't USA or Turner buy it, it should have been less of a gamble than a new show?

    PK Tech Girl? Really?

Also, I fully support getting Firefly back up and running.
