    Erm, because not matter how many corners you cut, there will always be more corners. The square itself will never become a circle - it'll be wrapped around a circle. As you approach infinity, it becomes a matter of perspective ; it may look like a circle to the naked eye, but with the ability to zoom infinitely you'd still be able to see the cut corners.

    If you look at the picture, all they've shown is that the value of pi has an upper bound of 4...

    providing a lower boundary and estimating the value pi is intuitively obvious and is left as an exercise to the reader. *troll face*
