See a fair few fics on ffnet which are listed as up for adoption or simply Abandoned, or on indefinite hiatus.

I reckon DLP should adopt some, and put in a team effort to finish them or re-do them.

yes? no? fuck off and die?

As long as it's not one of SilverAegis stories...

Seriously: I'd really like to see someone capable continue Dark Respite or Only Enemies.

I've done this several times. Continued a story that was abandoned for my own pleasure, as a way to get closure, haha. It's sad how much one can get involved in a story at times. But I can never continue because it always feels like I am cleaning up after someone else.

In the specific case of Only Enemies I'd think anyone taking that up would be setting themselves up for being subjected to nerdrage by fans for not staying exactly true to the style/tone of the original author. Because honestly, no one can strike the same style as another. The more an abandoned story is loved the harder it will be to adopt it.

I'm lucky though, if any of my stories become abandoned, Jon, Shezza, or nonjon could take them up. Half of DLP thinks they write those stories anyway. :p

I consider all of Nuhuh's stories abandoned until he updates them. Saves dissapointment.

Nuhuh's long and unperiodic updates have played with my heart so many times.

Last time you updated Stalking Blood Sack, I held off for like 2 days thinking "Man, if I read it, it will be so good I'll be sad thinking of how long I have to wait. I'm already numbed to the waiting because it's been so many months, I'll just keep waiting till its completed before reading any more." But the bolded text title on the work by author page just kept taunting me....

And then I read it, and it was awesome, and I just want more. And more of his other stories.

To get back to the matter at hand: I actually would love to see more of a drive at DLP to adopt abandoned stories. There are, obviously, huge issues and difficulties that come with adoption, but in my opinion as long as it's made clear to the reader that they shouldn't expect it to be exactly the same, in style or perhaps content, as before, that it can be done.

But for now, we should start with what stories there are out there to adopt. Does anybody know of any worthwhile stories?

Hmmmm, I don't really care if that gets finished or not. I just don't enjoy the second one at all and the first was a struggle and I only read it because it's a bit of a classic fanfic (if there is such a thing)

Song of the Trees would be the one I would pick. And Of Harry and Harry.

I'd like to see that one finished as well, but what should one do when it looks like the original writer completely dropped off the face of the earth?

On great stories that have been abandoned, they should be group DLP projects (collab's)...it'd be the only way to do them justice, really.

Let's be real. A collaboration on DLP's part just to finish off some incompleted stories would be too much work for a few people while the rest lazed back and leeched credit. Members of DLP can pick up abandoned stories themselves and finish them easier and faster than if they had to run it by everyone involved first.

I think that, if a few members picked up stories, communication to each other about the stories/issues they're having/whatever would be a good way to go about it, but I personally would rather have fantastic new stories than, at best, some okay/good stories that turn better once someone else writes them.

Is this not against DLP's rule to take up an abandoned story without the author's prior permission? I have come across plenty of warnings from mods asking noobs not to do so or ask anyone else do so?
