A friend of mine is getting fed up with FFN, and he's afraid his stuff will get taken down since a bunch of it breaks ToS anyway. He asked me to post here, and so I'm asking: What alternatives are there?

The stuff he's worried about falls into the Naruto fandom.

What kind of TOS violations? FF doesn't seem to actually check and take down explicit content much, if that's the issue.

Explicit content, authors notes, a poll and some script format in one of the chapters... It's more a just-in-case thing then actual worry.

    Harrypotterfanfiction.com
Fictionalley.com (warning: memberbase is generally retarded, a lot of obhwf, site layout is gay)
    Patronuscharm.net (duh)
Potionsandsnitches.com (hp/ss gen site, which means a ton of severitus)
    Fanficauthors.net (invite only, established authors)

    Good one, bro. D:

OP: Most of the time , FFn ignores it unless there is some kind of massive outcry... I mean, fuck. I have never had anything removed and you see the shit I write.

Squidoo list (35 sites) and Fuelyourwriting.com's list of 46 give you a ...pretty wide variety. Ficwad, mediaminer, and adultfanfiction are probably some of the bigger names...

archiveofourown.org is looking pretty good; they're mostly the Livejournal/Insanejournal/Dreamwidth crowd. Slashers, but it's miles better than mediaminer.

harrypotterfanfiction.com is the second site I use. It's far behind ffn though. You can only search by certain 'canonically possible' pairings such as hp&ginny/luna/hermione/cho. What I do like like about the search is the ability to find post-hogwarts fics, which there are quite a lot amount of. Most of the stories though are just fluffy perfect relationship kind of stories that make you go bleehhhhhh. If you can stomach 'normal' cliche's and can tolerate decent hp/ginny(I can't) then it's a good site. as far as I can tell, there is next to no slash do to the way the search filter works, but there is too much shit like draco/hermione

Yeah, that site sounds just like an auto-fail to me.

    Draco/Hermione? What the fuck?

I've always wondered what kind of audience writes on harrypotterfanfiction. My last theory was about "12-18 year old twilight fangirls without any real respect to the HP universe or writers who target the Harry Potter audience because people wouldn't read it elsewhere".

Anyway, every time I tried it out to find a decent fic there it disappointed me. Their search engine just sucks donkey balls as you get spammed with short stories when you request a novel.

Siye and Portkey, despite the mass of romance stuff, are far beyond hpff in writing quality.

Some older sites like Wizardtales.net had a few novel sized stories which were readable, some even classic material I think. Schnoogle+co. has some decent fics but the search engine is broken too, sugarquill is a bit eccentric and OC but afair there were some quality stories which might feel really alien these days. PhoenixSong.net is probably close to Siye in style, then there is also mugglenet.com. Most of these I haven't really scanned for years though.

Ficwad is a decent place, but their search engine hasn't been working for the past 3 years or so. The site admin ignored the website for 2 years, came back briefly and only fixed the e-mail alert problem, and left again. Fucking douchebag.

Restrictedsection.org is kinda popular too, but the site is filled with unrealistic pairings such as Draco/Hermione, and a lot of slash. Though you will find a very small list of decent stories there, but it's mostly smut stories from what I gather. Pretty much just like adultfanfiction.net.

Siye is pretty lame, and full of idiots.

Hmm, harrypotterfanfiction was actually the first website I found fanfiction on. And while there may be some terrible stories on there, there's some really awesome ones hidden. For instance, I think I found DLP from Tinn's Song Of The Trees, which is posted there.

Of course, the site's gone downhill ever since, lol. Not worth visiting any more.

Mugglenet. So long as some character is cutting themself and crying at the unfairness of life he'll get a trintillion reviews. :>

Not anymore he won't. I'm serious, Mugglenet is fucking dead most of these days, especially the forums. The site's still got some interesting material, but most of it has to be so stringently moderated - on an extremely inconsistent basis, I might add - that I completely lost interest.

Although if this guy primarily writes Naruto stuff... yeah, I've got no clue where to direct him.

I offered to take over development of Ficwad two years ago, but never got a response to my email...Oh well. Their loss.

You could always try again. It wouldn't hurt. Seeing as he's ignoring the site once again. I'm surprised no one's bitching about him doing that. Stupid turd deserves it at the least.

I once actually searched for fanfiction sites specialising on anime / Naruto. There are few active sites and they have only a small fanbase. I'd suggest to spread the stuff and link it in Naruto forums.

    Anime-Fanfiction.com - 298 fics, last updates 2007 (?)

Otaku-Fanfics - 363 fics, Last updates this month

http://anime-fanfiction.net/ - 96 fics, last updates this month

nanashifics.com - 90 fics, last updates some time ago

The rest seems to host even less stuff and is usually out of date.

This place seems kinda active. I don't even read the stuff (having never watched the anime) but they have a bunch of stories, with recent updates from the last month.

Although, it seems every other story description involves someone's life turning upside-down. Maybe they're channeling the whole Tsunami zeitgeist.

I started out there as well, until I finally discovered FFN. There are a few gems hidden there, but nothing that really goes beyond nostalgic value.
