Indeed. The sad fact is that we're surprised when a parent (or parents) take a stand against what they deem unacceptable behavior. I for one wish more parents were involved enough to be proactive in their children's lives.

Well depends on really which parts of applied physics you like, but I doubt you'll be disturbed enough in the head to enjoy it's applications on structural engineering. Quantum mechanics rocks though.
