Maybe in bronze, but I don't see all stalker armies that much (and never use them) unless the opponent is going something ridiculous like mass air. (This is at mind diamond level on an eu account though).

Doubling the cost in gas/extra ten seconds would throw off builds, but wouldn't substantially change the game beyond early unit compositions.

Increasing build time or increasing cost removes one of the few advantages to protoss gateway units, which most people will admit don't measure up in terms of strength to the other races. Beyond that, just because Blizzard "intended" something to work in a certain way doesn't mean the metagame will adapt to it. Seen many battlecruisers lately?

Sorry, just can't accept that cutting protoss gateway units any further (seriously a 10% cost increase?) is a wise move in the way you're suggesting.

So I just had a game where the Terran bunkered up early and rushed me with marines. For the first time ever I managed to bust through his defenses with Banelings and march into his worker line.

It was such a stressful match that I was shaking afterward. I really, really love this game.

Anyone else ever get that feeling of "Oh my God that was so stressful.. Fuck yeah."

See them all the time in Platinum.

Actually, I've seen them used once or twice ever since the speed was buffed. Partner was a 'tard, though, since he was up against massed (and I mean, massed) marines. The BC's got slaughtered.

    What would you suggest, then?

I am but a peon, but I personally really like the idea of no vision for warp ins. It substantially reduces the power of the 4gate (the simplest/most powerful timing push out there), while not directly impeding protoss's ability to warp in reinforcements, as well as not completely fucking over 'toss early game.

At the very least, it would change PvP entirely. 4gates would become *much* harder to prosecute effectively at any level about silver.

Yeah, I had a game a while ago where a protoss put gateways in my base from the beginning. He constantly put out two zealots at a time right next to my mineral line. Somehow I ended up winning and destroying his base while holding off the zealots at the same time. I had so much adrenaline pumping after that game, I couldn't sit still for like twenty minutes

I always thought that the gateway units should have a longer warp in time relative to how close or how far they are to the selected warpgate.

They should buff gateway (unit) build time without touching Warp Gate cooldown. Actually make unmorphed gates more useful most of the time. I love warp gates, they're really interesting, but they're handled pretty dumb.

Also they need to do something about the Colossus. I don't know what, but the more games I watch (and occasionally play) the more I hate that boring fucking unit and want it removed from the game entirely. And remember, I actually play Protoss.

PvP is one of the most volatile matchups because it 90% of the time, throughout the leagues, is just a 4gate v 4gate or something very similar. This is the largest issue of the matchup, because it's so incredibly strong and to beat it is much, much harder than to simply execute it. Similarly, it's so difficult to balance because, -technically-, the matchup is balanced.

Another huge issue that the matchup has is that the entire game can just be won with the deathball of colossi and zealots/stalkers. Not much else can be done to alleviate this without hurting the other matchups significantly.

What I would suggest for the 4gate is to increase the research time of Warpgate by 10 to 20 seconds - most people would argue that this isn't a lot, but it's huge in terms of teching. In tandem, I would lower the build time for Twilight Council by 10 or so seconds [thus providing this as a 'fast win' option versus the robo's inevitable long win against such strategies].

In personal opinion, I'd also bring back High Templar's Amulet, albeit a nerfed version with +20 or +15 energy as opposed to the natural +25 energy. This would give toss a second late game unit to be viable, while also not allowing us to do the lovely old warp in storm reactions to drops that we could before.

All personal opinion as usual, and open to critiques.

@Zarent - as a fellow sc2 player, it warms my heart to find people in DLP who play the game. I'm platinum, rank 1. Although I'm sure it'll drop to 3 or 4 in the next few days when I stop playing due to some upcoming projects. That said, on to the discussion.

Warp gate increased research timing would fuck up Protoss: big time. If I'm not wrong, Day9 had a few of his dailies on blip.tv showcasing how to deal with the 4gate, without using a 4gate. Its a bit tricky to pull off, but the whole strategy revolves around a 3 gate robo, and constantly fending off the 4 gate units. Once he exhausts 3 cycles of productions, he loses the ability to do it again, and that's where your swell of units beats out his. He would have less eco due to the 4 gate strat( no probes making) and you can grab an expo whil putting pressure back on him.

A definite hell yeah to bringing back the High templar energy upgrade - Blizzard really fucked up on that one.

Looking forward to HOTS though. As a mainly Terran/Zerg player, I WANT MY DAMN LURKERS!

Oh wait, that patch is actually cool. I misread it originally and saw that the Warp Gate times were increased by 5 seconds and the regular gate stayed the same, not the opposite. I'm okay with this, aside from the 40 second increase on Warpgate timings which I find to be overkill. 20 would've been fine.

Yay for archon buff though :)

I actually kind of like the patch notes, though admittedly I'm pretty well exclusively a spectator at this point. I'm pretty tired of PvP being 4gate wars, even though I realize it's just going to go War of the Worlds again with this change.

That being said, the ghost change confuses me. Why? They weren't underused or anything, and they're certainly not too weak, especially against Protoss. What's the deal there?

Because ghosts are expensive. Gas is more rare than minerals, and I remember in 4v4 games, I struggled to make any appreciable headway, since all of my available gases were going to nukes and ghosts.

This is to make it easier for people to pop out ghosts and nukes. Seriously, dropping 4-5 nukes at the same time is really fun. Seeing all four enemies rage at the same time... :awesome

    I love using nukes!

People don't usually expect them, and when your nuke suddenly blows up their army of several dozen zerglings or stalkers...beautiful sight, indeed!

I find nukes are a little like have an extra army; you can lock down an expo with them as though they were a small force of siege tanks, while hitting another base with your primary blob. Over all, they're underused for what they really do.

Got to play in two monobattles with Day9 tonight. It was pretty amazing. The next set of people chosen included my best friend, who was bronze league. This turned into the best day ever.

After the kinda disappointing TSL matches today I needed something to cheer me up.

Well, for me, at least. I just really don't find PvP entertaining with the way things are right now.
