Yeah I know it's a cliche, but it's my guilty pleasure. I haven't read a good one in a long time, but I have come across a number pretty bad ones.

If its more than a few years old, I've probably read it, especially if it is in the library.
Don't mind what the plot is. I'll just list a few classic ones: Harry travels to AU of some sort (even crossovers to non-potterverse universes), Harry goes back to school with/to teach his parents, re-do his school years, back to Tom Riddle era Hogwarts, etc. Gimme anything. Don't even care if it's not Harry Centric.

I've come across some shitty ones and one or two fairly good ones recently.

The good recent ones: The Apprentice, The Sun Dog, The Unforgiving minute

    The disappointments:
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6912072/1/A_Chance_Unexpected
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6610684/1/Stranger_in_a_Too_Familiar_Land
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5899199/1/
Any Snape re-do fic other than the Apprentice

Coming across those last 3 fics made me realize how long it's been since I read a good time travel/dimension travel fic. Other than the Apprentice and the Sun Dog and Unforgiving Minute, the last two good ones I read were probably A Black Comedy and Timely Errors.

I'll just list off some stuff I've read so you don't need to recommend these: Joe's stuff, Stranger Trilogy, Clock on the Face of Hell, Circular Reasoning, Nuhuh's stuff, and anything else in the library (never read Welcome to Hogwarts 1949 though, should I?).

Yes. There are some grammar mistakes in there, but overall a very good characterization of Tom Riddle and Harry in that story.

No. It hasn't been updated in forever.

    Take your pick :p

One of the best out there is Ella's Backward With Purpose (and sequels); The Book of Albus (book 2) is the best of that series. Sarah1281's Oh God, Not Again! is pretty funny. Nuhuh's In the Clockface, Weighted and Weary is excellent (and should be his top priority for writing). Ruin by Master Slytherin is very good. Lily Potter and the Worst Holiday is readable.

I've written several (and will write another if I get time to play in the contest this month). If you don't mind a few self-recs, you could check out The Life of Brian: A Super Harry Parody, A Mother In Law's Love, Yule Time, and Two-Thirds Blood Prince.

Well, you've probably read the World that Waits, but you didn't list it so I mention it just in case. X-men crossover, btw.

    Probably also read Delenda Est..

Shard of Time: Master of Death is one of those train station fics, and it's decent.

    HP & Assassin's Creed

His Own Man (personally I don't like it, but it's popular)

Time, Mr. Potter (one of lesser-known Time Travel fics, worth reading)

HP and the Trust (your mileage may vary)

The Dimension Shift by Dream Red (never read it, but it's in the library and C2)

I don't read much dimension travel, but I thought Warrior's Heir was decent. "Harry is thrown into a world where purebloods are condemned, Tom Riddle is the Boy Who Lived, and the Dark Lord...is someone he'd never suspect. Will his emerging abilities be enough? Should he support Riddle - or the Dark Lord? No slash. ON HOLD!"

It's pretty much canon reversal: Dark Lord Potter and his Muggleborn regime are beating down the Purebloods. Tom Riddle is seventeen. Strong case of developing!superpower Harry, but it's not too badly handled.

Out of those recs, I've read:

Backward with Purpose; Oh God, Not Again; In the Clockface; Ruin; A Mother in Law's Love; Life of Brian; Delenda Est, World that Waits, Hp& Assassin's Creed; Time, Mr. Potter; Harry Potter and the Trust; HP & The Time Spiral, HP & The Alchemist's Apprentice; Warrior's Heir (though I see it's updated a ton now), and Dimension Shift.

=D I realize I've read a lot of fics. I think I read a large chunk of Backward with Purpose and then gave up for some reason, don't remember if I finished it.

I'll check out the ones that are new to me (Ibex, Yule Time, 2/3 blood prince, LP& The Worst Holiday). Ibex seems like it might not be for me, since I don't enjoy Dark Lord Potter stories (ironic considering how long I have spent on the DLP forums).

Read 13th stepping before, and I'm pretty sure I read the other one many years ago but holy shit at the fact that it's updated semi-recently. That's 7 years after it started.

Yes, most definitely. One of the best depictions of Tom Riddle if not the best.

Now, this might not be what you're looking for at all and I haven't even read all of these myself, but I figured it wouldn't do any harm putting these out there.

    Demon Hunter
REVISED. PostOOTP Harry's summer takes an unexpected turn when the guardian of the 7th gate of Hell shows up and offers to train him as a demon hunter. BadAss!Harry. Older!Future!Mentor!Inuyasha. Rated for language i.e. Inu's mouth

    Millennium
Sequel to Demon Hunter. Inuyasha Xover. Y2K was what they called it. The new millennium. Everyone thought something would happen...something terrible, something great...And then it passed, nothing. Feh, yeah, maybe to the humans. IYK maybe HOC

    Troika Parallel
They finally retrieved Sasuke but Naruto's dreams of becoming Hokage would have to be put on hold. There were far greater things in store the young jinchuuriki: he may have no choice but to believe in destiny. Manga Sp. NaruSaku Inuyasha X Harry Potter

I've only read Troika Parallel myself, as I stumbled upon this trilogy while I was still only reading Naruto fanfiction. It's been quite a while since I read it, but I seem to have liked it enough to put it in my favorites. It might just even have been the fic, that got me into Harry Potter fanfiction in the first place. I can't really say anything about the first two, but I do remember reading something about Voldemort being the main bad guy, so at least one of those should be Harry!centric. Troika Parallel was mostly Naruto!centric, but did have a significant role for an, by that time, OOC/kick ass Harry. I've never read anything from Inuyusha, but that didn't turn out the be much of a problem.

I tried to read Demon Hunter and just couldn't get into it, but that might just be me. Props for the Scrubs referencing though, VR. No Air Banding, indeed.

Harry Potter and the Second Life. It was last updated on the 25th of April, and it is a decent read. Yes, it is yet another rewrite of SilverAegis' New Life, but I enjoyed this. Well...I didn't hate it, which is something. ;)

Ashaya, you have my eternal blessings that you have found a re-write of the story that ACTUALLY FUCKING REWROTE IT. I am going to go read now, the author appears to be at least moderately competent, has a decent vocabulary, and isn't a lazy shit when it comes to re-writing the original content.

Just a heads-up: it's rewritten by joehundredaire. I understand that he is not well-liked by a lot of DLP. Not that the opinion of the masses really matters, especially as it's the best rewrite of it that I've seen, but this is me saying:

    INB4HATERS.

I'm sure that I've read that name before, and likewise remember vaguely that he has some history with DLP, but I don't know what. Care to sum it up for me shortly?

I don't hold an author against their work (or for it, either), unlike some of DLP.

Well, for one, he takes criticism very badly. For another, he got Shezza's FF.net account deleted.

And if you need another, he has a very strange outlook on women. They are all perfect, they all hook up with each other, they all hero worship Harry, and yet they think every other man is dirt.

The latter reason is my main problem with him...you'll come across this hero worship pretty soon, and it is annoying. It is made all the creepier in my eyes by imagining that joehundredaire probably pictures himself in Harry's shoes.

Dammit, I hate to see a good author ruined by incredibly easy-to-avoid things like OH GARY STU. Still, will keep on. Is moderately entertaining at 2 am so far.

Harry Potter and the Distaff Side. I remember reading the first chapters of this, but I never continued it. Basically, Harry goes to an alternate dimension and meets opposite sex versions of everyone. I can't testify to it's quality, but it did randomly spring to mind just now, and fits the search.
