    Heathen. Die in a fire.

    :fire

Does everyone have a character they want to kill off? I don't think I've come across anyone who likes all of the squadmates. Everyone seems to have a hate boner for someone.

There were characters I didn't like as much, but I didn't want to kill any of them off. Well, I say that - I haven't saved Kaiden in any of the playthroughs, but that's not because I don't like him, I just don't like him as much as Ashley.

    ...

Damn it, now I want to go and reply the games.

Jack's returning? I didn't see that in the Eurogamer article you linked to. Source?

Killing a squad member off is the best solution; the only way of getting them out of your party. If we had the option of telling them to leave, I would take it.

Seems a bit silly, especially seeing how you're pretty screwed without the squadmates in ME2. I can't say I ever saved Car--er Kaiden either, but that's only because I could never talk to him without having KOTOR flashbacks.

Her entry on the ME wiki says:

They apparently got it out of a PS3 magazine from the UK.

Issue 17 of GameInformer also confirms.

Quickly skimming my copy, I can say it doesn't, or at least not by name.

    Page 55, bottom right corner.

"Over two games, Shepard has racked up a lot of friends and enemies. Though all main characters will likely return in Mass Effect 3 (if they've survived this long), here is a list of who is confirmed to make appearances."

    Playable to some extent:
    Liara
    Garrus
    Ashley/Kaidan
    James Sanders (?)

Characters seen or heard in demo:
    Wrex (ooh rah!)
    Mordin
    Legion
    Anderson

    Other Appearances
    Udina
    Illusive Man

So no definite answer on Jack, but I doubt they'd just drop her like that.

    "Hey, where's Jack?"
"She got food poisoning a few weeks back. She's dead."
    "Oh...."

I think Jack was one of the people who said they'd leave after the suicide mission was over? I suspect she'll either be a cameo appearance, or a 'conventional squad member' (as it's called in GameInformer).

Or you could just not recruit them in the first place. Just throwing it out there.

If you had actually played ME2, you would know that you can't go to Horizon until you've recruited your first four squad members (which includes Jack).

I have played ME2, as it happens. I'll take your word on it that Jack's an essential recruit though.

Although I still don't see why you can't just ignore her and never have her on your squad *shrugs*

I think it might come down to whether or not you gained her loyalty. (Can she survive suicide mission without being loyal?) Also, conventional squad member?

    Page 55, third paragraph.

GameInformer makes the distinction between a squad member, who is an integral part of the story and a 'conventional' squad member, who you can choose to have with you, or who might just be along for a couple of missions.

Hmm....I still can't see the established characters being pushed to the sides though. Maybe conventional squad members will be people who have an interest in whatever conflict Shepard is currently solving in order to gain more allies?

I have to say, that preview describing ME3 to be more like a shooter actually has me more excited than ever. The combat system really was quite clunky, and the one thing I found unappealing about ME1&2. Though adrenaline rush + Sniping was quite possibly the coolest thing ever. :p
