Wow things got busy real fast haven't been on in a while seems like I registered yesterday. Laptop's HDD fried lost some of my WIP (had saved some to a thumbdrive before it happened only lost ~350 words or so iirc. Fortunately I was able to write down what I knew I didn't have a backup of and was later able to get a recovery of the drive using a recovery tool. Then I decided to start a new angle that one's currently around 1500 words for the first chapter (wish me luck) still haven't decided in which direction to go with the antagonist(s) Voldemort will be in there I think but then again it's an AU so we'll see... So I created this thread in part to ask for recommendations on some fanfics.
    My top 4 are
    Code:
    1. To Fight The Coming Darkness
    2. Harry Potter And The Burden of Becoming
    3. Harry Potter And The Birth of a New Sun
    4. The Dragonmasters
I generally like longer (complete of course) fictions and AU fictions preferably both. Still open to some new surprises I've had a look at the recommended threads but thought I'd ask.

Also where would I post a spitball thread bouncing ideas off of you guys for character development or characters in general? example antagonist. If such an area existed and you all don't mind getting a little spittle on your face :p

Also is this the right section? I couldn't think of where to put it. My mind has been a bit of a mess recently finals week is upon me.

One - We have a story search sub-forum.

Two - Why the inforant? It's completely irrelevant to your question.

Three - The whole library is basically recommendations for fanfics. If you want to narrow your preferences down to completed fics just use the white thread tags in the titles.

    Edit:

You asked for alternatives to ff.net before you edited it away so here you go - a thread discussing just that.

    Recommendations in order:

    1) Lurk moar

    2) Keep lurking

    3) Never post again*

*Unless you are cured of your retardation, learn how to post things in the proper subforum, and realize that there is a library full of fanfics which the board's hivemind has (at one point in time) thought worthy of recommendation. We really should have kept the intro section.

We should get Raven to code an introduction section that forces new members to post there before being allowed to post anywhere else, especially creating new threads. Lots of forums have them and it seems to work pretty well.

Of course, we might also go back to insulting 99/100 new members... but such is DLP.

Something like that would be completely a step in the wrong direction. For one, what would it have achieved? The intro section was closed to avoid the endless dickfest that occurred whenever someone mucked up. Which was pretty much always.

Doing what you suggested would probably put many people who didn't plan on being regular posters from contributing in the first place - you might argue all the retards that crop up would be vetted, but in reality you'd just end up with a shit ton of rushed, stupid introductions so that they could post once or twice and never come back, or alternatively just scaring people away from making a worthwhile contribution in the first place.

...I'll probably be sorry that I replied to this when the thread inevitably descends into bitching about the removal of the intro forum.

Just in answer to the original post, dont we have an entire library full of fics that we like? Seems like that would be the place to go to find new (or old) fics...

Or just get him to make it so that they have to have a certain amount of posts before they can start new threads.

    20 or so seems fair.

Some forums have their introduction sections stop post count from being added on if posted in there, and it seems to work.

You don't need to bring back the Intro board, but maybe a special CAPTCHA for registering accounts would work:

That would nicely weed folk out for a little while... :awesome

Reviving the Intro board would be null here; Phazer11 joined and intro'd before I did.

@ OP - Large area with the Library. Go.

Heh. Maybe. Some intro threads were cool tho. Others are useful for the new guy. For example, when I wrote my intro thread, someone recommended the DFiles to me. Admittedly, I would've found out about it eventually, if I lurked enough. But some persistent folks practically ordered me to read it. Glad they did.

    This just might work.
