This is true for the whole Anglosphere. Maybe it's even more pronounced in British people, but Americans are also far more 'polite' than Germans are used to. (At least outside of youth culture obviously.)

Protip for talking with Germans: If you tell us we 'should come over sometime', we will come over sometime. If you don't want us to actually do that, don't tell us to!
