I'm confused. And angst... sooo much angst.
Freddy is a Gary-Stu, Harry is a pussy, nobody can do anything it's declining very fast.
And sooooo much ANGST.

 

Harry's characterization has bothered me throughout the fic, but what he did to make sure he was woken up was pretty badass I think.

One thing that bothers about the issue of Dreamless Sleep Potion is why isn't everyone else taking it? I think Harry can't take it because of the poisoning from the truth potion, but Freddy couldn't enter other peoples' dreams if they weren't dreaming in the first place, right?

 

On the upside, Hermione gets OMGpwned in the library, so I call it a win.

The new chapter makes up for some of the prior ones...a little.

 

As far as fanfic goes, this is still a cut above most.

That said, it seems like every chapter between 2 and this one has been filler (Harry goes to sleep, somebody gets killed, Harry plays dumb. Rinse & Repeat.). This is the first chapter in ages that has actually moved the plot along; now other people know what's going on, they're going to have to actually DO something.

 

This started off with a lot of potential, but it just stalled out and didn't go anywhere. I thought that eventually Harry would find ways to be *more* effective against Freddy, not less, as he learned Occulmency or whatever. I was hoping for badass dream showdowns, not Harry reduced to cutting himself to fight Villain-Stu.

 

Sucks. The story had potential, probably as a long oneshot or a short story. Most chapters feel like filler. Harry characterization is atrocious and Freddy is just overpower. I was interested at first, but now?

I'd give a 2/5 for the good writing and the idea potential. Execution is fail tho.

 

The Idiot Ball has ruined the story past redemption, really. I read Culture Shock yesterday and this today and I'm surprised that the writing actually seemed to get worse, not better. I'd much rather Ruskbyte use his productive period of inspiration or whatever to continue writing Culture Shock, Backwards Compatible, or even Something Grim, regardless of the fact that it fell of a cliff in chapter 3.

 

heck, I think that it might have been better if Harry fell into a coma after the first death, and Freddy says "let the game begin..." and end it like that.

 

Ch. 10. Update. We see a little action at least. it's fighting but still loosing.

 

Chapter 10 was actually the most awesome chapter in a while. If this shit had happened in chapter 5 this fic would've rocked.
