Bullshit. One does not simply *conjure* Chuck Norris. Now if you'd said -

"Tired of Harry Potter's pussy-footing and ineptitude, Chuck Norris *wills* himself into the HP universe. Once there, he roundhouse-kicks some sense into Harry Potter, causing Harry's parents to be expelled from the boy's memory as fully-formed and functional adults.

Nodding once in satisfaction, Chuck Norris then *wills* himself to Lord Voldemort's location, along with every reporter in the wizarding world. Batting away a Killing Curse with only his flaccid and yet still foot-long dong, Chuck Norris roundhouse-kicks Voldemort so hard that all his Horcruxes spontaneously combust.

Nodding again, Chuck Norris tips his hat to the assembled reporters, allowing a single picture to be taken of his good side - that is to say, any side at all - and buffs his Texas Ranger badge in salute, before *willing* himself to another universe in dire need of the saving grace of his roundhouse kicks."

    - then I would believe you.

'Chuck Norris- Dimension-travelling, round-house-kicking, bad-guy-destroying, god'? Has a nice ring to it I think...

... so because I suggested not to discuss Transfiguration in the other thread, we do it here now? What is this :|

We discussed Gamp's Law, and dealt with everything pointed out here so far (six pages). We talked about Creating Life and why you can't create a human one, which was actually just a recycling of the actual Transfiguration thread (seven pages). And of course we pondered everything once more, in a "Magic-In-General"-thread (eight pages).

At least the actual OP question was a kinda-new one, even if it isn't really productive, because we don't know enough to decide either way, the way I see it.

Err, yeah. Sesc is right. Basically, we don't know and it doesn't matter. There are enough contradictions in canon that you can make and support any conclusion you like.

No, i'm pretty sure JK didn't realise what she had written previously, therefore didn't prove to be consistent. Did I mention that she made them camp for most of the book?

Will you fucking stop posting already? No one is interested in discussing your dreams and thoughts and rainbow-colored hopes. You just keep posting and posting and posting. Every thread I look in there's a post of yours that adds absolutely nothing to the argument at hand.

I realize this site isn't the Mensa Int, but a few seconds of thinking before hitting 'Submit' would be appreciated.

    I concur.

On an unrelated note, I'm quite enjoying 'A Clock on the Face of Hell' so far.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Hairy McBoons were created via transfiguration and they're magical creatures.

I don't think anything is impossible for magic. It's just a matter of what wizards have figured out to date. I think it's fair to say that the Quintapeds were something of a fluke, given that we don't see people transfiguring dragons out of rocks.

Regarding Molly Weasley's sauce: my own take on that is that it wasn't conjuration or transfiguration, but rather a flavouring charm. If I recall correctly, the brief look Harry takes at her cookery books mention "Charming Up a Feast" or something like that.

The Hairy McBoons were rumored to have been created with transfiguration. But none of them has ever been transfigured back, which shouldn't have been hard to do.

What actually makes a magical creature magical? If you were to transfigure a stone into a dog, but fucked up and created a three headed dog, would that be a magical creature? Because if the Hairy McBoons were transfigured, they seems more like a transfiguration mishap than anything else. Maybe they don't even have anything magical, but are only qualified as magical creatures, because they were created with magic.

Which would mean it is possible to transfigure a magical creature, but only if they don't actually have anything magical. Or maybe the McBoons still have the magic they had as humans, which might show itself in a greater than normal resistance to harm and flying iron balls. That would mean, that while it might technically not be possible to create a magical creature, because you can't transfigure magic, it is possible to transfigure an existing magical creature into a different one, while preserving the magical ability it already had. You probably still won't be able to, say, transfigure a wizard into a dragon, because their magical ability differs (dragons' magical resistance for example comes from Old Magic in their skin), but it would make it technically possible to transfigure a dragon into a non-existing magical creature. Like a fire breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex with wings.

We might need some preservation charms on these dead horses.

I know i'm adding nothing to this, and I do apologise for this, but i'm lost as to what 'Hairy McBoons' are.
