Harry Potter and the Hero's Path by theJackofDiamonds.

If you haven't read it, do so. It's excellent.

It makes me sad that I have read most of these stories so there is nothing new for me :(

Hero's Path isn't really new, and I thought it was abandoned.

Yes and yes, and though I'll probably get butchered for this, I didn't like it at all. I don't care that it was the "best" Slytherin!Harry in 07, there's no real reason to read it today. Longer disertation when I get off my phone, maybe..

Hmm, don't think I can point you towards any new fics...maybe some old ones?

Dark Respite by Omagic and In The Company of Secrets by Dream Red are two people don't talk about much anymore. ItCoS in particular is pretty dated, but at 415,592 words it might keep you entertained for a while.

I'll recommend Extrapolation by Aedalena, which I don't think I've ever seen mentioned on dlp. Again, quite old. But I have fond memories.

Try The Weapon Revised by QTuani7 if you haven't yet. Not everyone likes it, but I did, and it's slim pickings of late. Plus it's complete, unlike everything else I've recommended so far.

It's a pretty famous story in the fandom, but read Stranger in an Unholy Land by Jono/serpant-sorcerer if you haven't gotten around to it. I mention it because I had a bunch of false starts with that one, where it lost me in the first third. But then I finished it and those last couple of chapters made all the buildup worth it. Ignore the sequel though, it killed my happy-buzz.

There was a big thing involving the mystery of the author's disappearance a few years back; many have speculated that he's died, or something.

I've just started chapter 5 of this and I'm not hating it. The major things keeping me from enjoying it are the layers upon layers of typos in the earlier chapters, and come clunky characterizations. I would agree with you that it is "classic" DLP material, as in it could have been written in 2005.

You know any stories from 2005 with such raw fear and "realistic" action? I think older stories are usually more detached here, where the character is always in some kind of control because he's *the* hero or they try to transport some kind of moral message. Here you really feel that Harry is fighting for his life with everything he's got and not just exchanging some silly spells.

Uh... What "raw fear"? Honestly, I found the whole thing a little detached, awkwardly paced, and bland. There is a lot of info dump, particularly in the first three chapters. The prologue should be included with the rest of the story, because it would make it so much more fluid. I will grant you that there were a few moments of dramatic tension, but the only part I felt anything resembling fear was when Harry and Topfer fought- although that may have been indigestion at Topfer's awful, cheesy, corny lines. Grindelwald was boring, Voldemort was pathetic, Dumbledore was paper thin/nowhere to be seen, Fudge was surprisingly well-characterized, the OCs were lame, and Harry alternated between 'so poorly handled it was laughable' and 'barely passable' (angsting in the middle of a fight? Lamesauce. His characterization up until chapter 4 was decent enough, I suppose). On top of this, the author had the worst luck with spellcheck. Every single one of his typos managed to be in a place where it could do maximum damage to the story. Here for example:

Holy run on sentence with 'recourses' Batman! This is actually a pretty good example of the grammar in the story, now that I think of it.

If it was put up for review today, I would probably give it about a 3/5 and toss it in the recycling bin. It isn't awful and has the potential to get a lot better as the writer improves. There is a noticeable improvement from Chapter 3 on, so I will be keeping an eye on it.

I was reading Extrapolation. Why is it so hard to get a competent Harry that doesn't suffer from extreme PTSD?

Because clearly, the only thing that can smelt the dross inside Harry Potter is the vicious, hellish furnace of war.

Sixth Year: The Steps Toward the End

Decent fic. Harry focuses on the DA. The story sticks out in my memory because of the relationships.
Does use love potions to get the Weasleys out of the story, but it didn't bother me when I read it because the story is well written and not about bashing..

Hasn't been updated in a while, although the author still comes on and hasn't said that it's abandoned.

Because TV tells us that PTSD is the easiest way to make an otherwise normal character dangerous. It's the go to for authors who want a character to be "dark/dangerous but not evil". Honestly I don't hate the device, but it does get boring through overuse.

Extrapolation has it's faults, but it is shockingly good for something written in 02/03. I always thought it was a shame it never got past 3 chapters.
