One part that I was slightly worried about. (Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-07-wii-u-hands-on )

Don't know whether this has been brought up. Only one WiiU Controller will be provided with WiiU Console bought. They will not be purchasable seperately, it would seem.

That would be very inconvenient. It would severely hamper multiplayer games unless a friend could bring his own controller.

On the other hand, I like how the console will be backwards compatible with both games and Wiimotes essentially just being an upgraded machine so that current Wii owners don't feel too ripped off.

IGN said that in a interview the Nintendo dev's were discussing the possibilities of friends bringing over their controllers.

Exceptional skills of faggotry you have, Nintendo. Might I suggest you stop sabotaging your own business?

How would this hamper multiplayer games? If Nintendo won't let you buy the controller as an accessory, then obviously they won't let any game be made on the system that would need more than one Wii U controller.

For any motion sensing game, wouldn't the Wiimote be the default controller? The Wii U controller would just be used as a peripheral, like the trailer showed with golfing.

^ Probably. It looks too cumbersome to use as a Wiimote as it would take both hands, the most you'd end up doing is a shuffle to the side or tilting it. If it was used in a multiplayer game, it would probably be some kind team game where the players would need to work together.

This thing would pwn a TV rather well if it was supposed to be used like a normal Wiimote.

The unit is lighter than it looks, and is surprisingly comfortable to hold. The fact that the buttons are below the circle pad on the left leads to awkward straining, though, and I have pretty big hands.

Edit: Missed the article that mentioned it. Oh well, this is a first person impression.

3 years since the last post, but I didn't want to make a new thread.

I just bought a Wii U the other day, primarily for Mario Kart 8, but also in anticipation of Super Smash Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Maker, etc.

If anyone else has one, post your friend code or PM it to me or something so that we can play Mario Kart or something else together!

I've been meaning to get Mario Kart 8. It looks worth it, but since you have it, would you recommend it?

Reports are that it's fantastically Mario Kart in every way, if you love the Mario Kart formula, you'll love this.

It wouldn't be Nintendo without them bunging something up though, and that's battle mode.

The tracks in battle mode are the actual racing tracks instead of arenas. Basically makes BM a regular race without a finish line...

From what I played of the racing part though, it's great. I still hate the game (blue shell) though.

Battle mode is utterly ruined, but I have hope for DLC that corrects that...

Still so many characters that they didn't use, too, I would be pretty happy if they released DLC with some of those characters, as the game comes with 5 baby characters and all seven of the Koopalings.

But, other than those two things, the game is gorgeous, the gameplay is epic, and anti-gravity feels like it's always been in the game.

Also now there's an item that counteracts the blue shell!

Nintendo has always been disappointingly short on DLC, and that's coming from someone who hates the fact that so many games now rely on DLC to prop themselves up. Nintendo would make a killing if they released character packs for Smash or Mario Kart, and I'd be first in line to buy them, but they've never chosen to do so. I can sort of respect them for that, but it's still a little disappointing.

And I'll definitely look into grabbing it. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm sorry to hear they messed up Battle Mode, because I remember the days of playing back on Mario Kart 64, but then, to me that was always a sideshow attraction anyway.

Well, they're releasing a Mercedes Benz DLC, which is what is giving me hope. Also, yeah, they'd make a huge killing...actually, now that I think about it, I guess new characters, if we get any, will be introduced via those Amiibo figures rather than traditional DLC, which leaves me even more pessimistic re: the chances of Battle Mode being fixed.

If Battle Mode was fixed, this would be the best Mario Kart game I've played, but it's such a glaring flaw, and I was very partial to Battle Mode and its levels. There were some other changes, like no longer being able to stack items by having green shells and another item in reserve, that I disliked at first but now really like because it makes things much more strategic.

With Amiibos on the horizon I can definitely see character pack DLCs on MK's future.

    Samus Kart, etc.

    Better than fucking Baby Mario...

I need to buy Mario Kart! By all accounts it's amazing and from what I understand you get a free game if you buy it by a certain date. I seem to be one of the few who has never played the franchise before, though, so I'm wondering if that will affect my view of the game, compared to everyone else.

But I have enjoyed every game I have gotten so far (Zelda, Mario 3d World, and Donkey Kong) thoroughly even though I've never played any of those before too, so hoping for the best.

So having watched some higher quality video footage of Mario Kart 8, I have to ask.

Why do the graphics look better than Watchdogs? What the hell.

    Two reasons:

    1) Watch Dogs looks like ass anyway
    2) Nintendo is very good at making good looking games regardless of their system's power. Case in point: the Mario Galaxy games.

You have to get it by July 31st! Also, with no prior Mario Kart experience, you might want to start off with the wheel and tilt control...I think it is too late for me to change my ways, but I have roommates who never played Mario Kart and the tilt controls are easier for them to learn. Mainly, though, the tilt controls hurt your hand less, haha!

I tried tilt, and I finished the first race in 9th lmao. I just move too much when playing.
