I meant that she would sacrifice Stannis in a heartbeat if she found out he wasn't the chosen one.

I think her dragons could be interpreted as her burning swords, especially since, unlike Stannis, she actually had to sacrifice someone she loved. Didn't she burn Drogo on the pyre with the eggs? Drogo was useless and all but it is still a parallel to Azor Ahai and the sacrifice he made of his wife.

Ah, I misunderstood. I'd agree with you here.

She did burn Drogo on the pyre with the eggs and with the Maegi who caused all the trouble. My impression was that all these things combined, plus the death of Rhaego in the womb, were collectively her sacrifice that allowed her dragons to be hatched. Or something like that, either way the events surrounding those things led to it, whichever specific thing actually caused it.

I haven't really thought it through completely I suppose, but I thought that the sacrifice of Azor Ahai was specifically to get the burning sword and had nothing to do with Dragons, and that the dragons were another element of the prophecy. So I was thinking that Dany would need the sword in addition to her dragons, b/c both are important. But if they could be considered one and the same, well, that I don't know.

Good point!

Where there even dragons in the prophecy? Or at least from the one involving Azor Ahai? Because iirc Azor Ahai's battle with the Others and the prophecy predates Aegon's Landing by a few thousand years. There were no dragons in Azor Ahai's time so I think the prophecy was referring to fire, supernatural fire in general, since it's ying to the Others' yang.It could be a sword that burns eternal, or a bunch of fire breathing dragons.

I'm hard pressed to think of an occasion that dragons were mentioned in a prophecy that wasn't simply referring to Dany's eventual reclaiming of her throne though.

Do we even know what the prophecy is exactly? It involves the comet in the sky, but I don't recall specifics.

This is so; however, I find it interesting that everyone in Westeros knows them as The Others too.

Well, the prophecy about the reincarnation of Azor Ahai and its possible interpretation, amongst many other things concerning ASoIaF, can be found here:
www.westeros.org/Citadel/Prophecies/

"When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt."

Well, I finished A Feast of Crows, and can't believe I have to wait 2 more books before I learn what happens with Cersei or Margaery .

If Cersei doesn't die, I'll rage, srsly Arya is blind, it's like GRRM makes you love these characters and then just kills them off, like they were cannon folder.

So, does anyone know any good fanfiction stories?

You don't have to wait for after Dance with Dragons. GRRM has said that while the start of Dance is simultaneous with Feast, it then continues on further.

Fortunately for us Martin can't control fanfiction based on the TV show. So, if they can create a Game of Thrones link under TV Shows on ffnet we should be set.

Edit: ffnet is already ahead of me.

The way I see it, if you want to go with Dany being Azor Ahai reborn...the original was trying to create the blade to battle the Others, and eventually made the sacrifice to get it to work. The blade was his weapon of choice.

Dany also made a sacrifice, but hers was to hatch to dragons... as her weapon of choice.

I don't think that Lightbringer necessarily has to be a sword, it can be whatever 'weapon' the reborn Azor Ahai sacrifices to gain.

And you could also say that Dany was reborn amongst fire and salt when she burnt Drogo.

Also, dragons are warm to the touch - something Aemon felt Stannis' sword was lacking.

Well, now I have a decision to make. Do I want spoilers? :S

Edit: okay, I couldn't resist. I have so many questions now.

About five and a half, give or take a head.

The dedication for Dance is nice. After a lengthy poem listing fans on his website and some official fansites, he ends it with:

Which I think is nice of him.

I guess I won't tease about any sort of spoilers then.

That said.

You just HAD to highlight this, didn't you? You're an idiot for highlighting this obviously placed feint, and you're a horrible person for wanting spoilers for a book that's coming out in two weeks.

Shame on you!

:awesome
