    Ah, my bad.
More importantly we were told that someone was going to die in this season who didn't in the novels, so we have no idea who.

I swear if it's Theon I'mma quit this show :). He's pretty much the only person having fun through all this.

Whoever it is, I hope Ser Ilyn Payne gets him. That big honking clayburn needs to make a comeback.

On this episode Shay is way,way fucking different than what we saw in the books. Her balls are at least twice as large. I'm surprised. But as someone has already mentioned, the way Tyrion interacts with women raises uncomfortable questions about her women are perceived so it makes sense they would make their relationship more egalitarian.

THEY KILLED HIM WITH HIS OWN SWORD
I don't know if that happened in the books, but DAYUM!

    It did. Pretty crazy eh?

Spoiler for books regarding the same thing.
Later they melted the same sword down and made it into two smaller swords -- one for Jaime and one for Joffrey.

Shae is portrayed here in an entirely different way than I had pictured her in the books. I had always imagined her as being younger, a bit more innocent acting, and not wearing scads of makeup...I do see why they changed her, but it still disappoints me. Also, that fucking accent annoys me. :/

    /me stares at GL.
....have you SEEN her? She reminds me of a rodent. A rodent with too much eye makeup. Anyway, if you like her so much, go watch some of the porn with her in it and stop thinking about Taure having sex.

Anyway, back on topic, is the second season going to cover the entirety of Clash of Kings, or do you guys think that they'll split it up? Any word on this?

She's described in the books as:

My mental image is clashing harshly with the onscreen version. But in the end, as long as she does what she does in the books, I won't really care. She's not an absolutely absolutely ABSOLUTELY crucial character in the likes of Tyrion or Jon or Daenarys.

In regards to her appearance, pretty much this. Taure's and Ashaya's love lives aside-

The War of the Five Kings has already started. The latest episode features the Battle of the Whispering Woods, several battles into the war.
There's one more major battle before Kings begins, so we'll see. Hopefully, there'll be more news in that vein soon.

    Cannot unsee.

I was mainly responding to the accent critique - whatever she looks like, that accent is hawt. "Foreign." /love.

Expensive to essentially commission a whole other season and risk losing viewers in the wait when they could just make the second season longer. That said, it really could go either way. I know a couple of people working craft on it, but they're extremely tight about details (annoyingly so), and they wouldn't know a whole lot about the state-side production decisions anyway.

It's HBO, so I hope they'll do the right thing and keep it a single season. The very Hollywood 'milk it for all it's worth by splitting it up' applies a lot less to TV than it does to film... usually.

They're going to have to split Storm of Swords for sure, but I think they could manage Clash of Kings in one season - though I think it would have to be a slightly longer season. Maybe 12-14 episodes. though perhaps they can do it in fewer - many of the first episodes of Game of Thrones were slow going exposition. If the pace of season two picks up where season 1 left off, they might be able to do it in 10. But it might end up feeling a bit shallow (as episode 9 felt, in my opinion. Some awesome scenes, sure, but it almost seems like a highlights reel).

I heard GRRM's writing speed is slower than a book a year so at some point they'll have to pace it so they come to the 7th season after he's done writing it.

Assuming 1 season a year, and the series being a 7 book one as originally planned, then Martin has 5 years to finish the series before the show catches up. Add an additional year for any book that gets split into 2 seasons. I don't think we have to worry too much.

Sure, Dance with Dragons took forever, but it's clear that it was mainly due to Martin writing himself into a corner. If you look at the amount of work he produced in terms of daft copies and rewrites, he produced several books worth of prose for Dance - it's just that most of it got discarded. I think at one point he was at 1000 pages then chucked about 400 of them. Of course Martin could write himself into another corner, but I think it's less likely. The problem with Dance was apparently bringing some characters together, and he had to introduce a whole new PoV to get it to work. But now those story lines have been successfully brought together, presumably he won't hit the same problem twice.

He's still a slow writer compared to most pro writers, don't get me wrong. He says that himself. But I'll be surprised if we see another wait as long as that as we had for Dance (assuming, of course, that Martin doesn't die).

    No it's really not.

As for the show catching up with the books lol, maybe it's just the cynic in me but if I were you I wouldn't count my chickens just yet.

Fuck, that's one of my greatest fears revolving around this series, that Martin will die before he finishes the books. It's got me pissed off just thinking about it. The only thing that keeps me wading through the dreary death and war and hopelessness of this series is the promise of an ending that might just promise a better future for the characters I've grown attached to.

Though it would be the the greatest trolling ever. Ensnare millions of people worldwide in your series, then die before you can finish.

I am pretty sure I read something on GRRM's Not-A-Blog to the effect of: "In the event that I die, as some of you seem to worry, there's plenty of material left for someone to pick up the series and finish it." Not sure exactly how much that fills me with confidence (or if I even remember correctly), but it's better than nothing. Considering Christopher Tolkien, for instance, managed to do a decent job at finishing some of Tolkien Sr.'s work, it gives me a measure of hope in any case.

Though I do believe it won't come to that, considering that he has admitted that the whole story line is plotted to the very end, I really would feel much, much better if he just sped the process up a bit. While I understand the TV series is bringing down a whole lot of pressure on him, it's not like he hasn't had to deal with that before. And now that DwD is done, I think he'll have a much easier time of it.

off-topic: I'm wasting my first post in the Song of Ice and Fire thread. I have this strange feeling my mother would be proud. She likes it much better than HP. :)

Also, hi DLP. -goes back to lurking-

I think Sanderson has done an excellent job wrapping it up though.

On the topic of the show, I finally got caught back up. I was two episodes behind, so I apologize if some of my comments are a tad dated.

Shae was way different that I had pictured her as well, but I thought the actress playing her still did a pretty good job.

Walder Frey was a boss, despite looking about 30 years too young.

    And so much this:

So does anyone know when A Clash of Kings comes out cause I'm so pumped for next season now. My highlights were the King in the North scene and definitely the ending with Daeneryes. They actually pulled off the dragons pretty well even though Daeneryes wasn't bald.

That's okay. I'm sure she's bald where it counts.

Awesome episode. I've been looking forward to this episode for weeks.

My favorite scene has to be the one between Rob and Catelyn. The acting was done perfectly. I can't remember if that scene was in the books, but, if it wasn't, it should have been.

Sansa actress is by far the worst in the show. For fucks sake, her expression didn't even change when she got slapped.

What was the point of the Maester Pycelle scene? I feel like it was conveying an important message that I completely missed.
