Well. That's disappointing, to be honest.

Only slightly better than "magic wand treasure hunt". Hopefully the additional information she releases will be interesting, or this will at least renew interest in the fandom.

The press release is more informative.

And that, as they say, is that.

Sounds like a fairly transparent way to shift more merchandise. Especially with that big Sony logo right on the front page.

Also, is the "submit your email" button broken for anyone else?

Yeah, I had trouble with the submit email button. I managed to get it to work by opening it in a new tab. Although the page wouldn't load after I submitted my email, so I'm not sure it even worked.

So it's not a MMO. I can't decide whether I'm relieved or disappointed.

Did anyone else notice that she said that the user could share their stories with others?

EDIT: Nvm, watched it again and she said share about the books.

I'd actually like things like the magic behind wands to remain unexplained. Soms things should be too magical to explain in 'muggle' terms. It's the same with the Sorting Hat really. Officially reducing it to nothing but a series of questions just takes away a part of the magic and makes the hat less special.

I agree that in a way it is disappointing. Though the way JKR phrased her announcement it seems as if she is practically presenting the books for free - as long as you read them online on her website.

I'm still excited about the additional content.

    Concerning the Online-Experience:
As she / the publishers intend to listen to ideas of / make use of members who join the site early on... who hinders us to join en masse and shape it to "Pottermoredarkly"?

Sounds like it might be fairly decent. Although it's trying to make it more enjoyable than just reading a bunch of text clunked together. Although, it would be annoying to have to go through all of it just to get a little bit of informaiton as you go, I guess it depends on the type of person that you are.

I'll be happy about this, as long as she hasn't decided to add even more camping.

Kotaku published an article on this:

The Guardian had an article on this today. Not a whole lot that's not been discussed so far; importantly, there's no further clarification on what the "content" that users will be permitted to contribute entails.

It sounds dangerously like she wants to make a crappy MMO, with bits of book-reject story chunks thrown in.

Oh well! Harry Potter is always good :D

I'm coming around to the idea...

So do we all take the role of Harry, read the books, but at certain interactive points we can make different decisions, e.g. house? That's what it sounds like, but... the amount Rowling would had to write for that is mind-boggling. I can only presume, if it is the case, that we have pretty limited choices that don't affect the major plot.

Either that or we're reading things through the eyes of a personalised OC peer of Harry.

It sounds like we aren't taking the role of Harry, but an OC.

But the choices would only affect the superficial parts of the plot, so we can't turn into a unicorn or usurp Voldemort as the newest dark lord.

The only part of this particularly excites me is the extra bits we're going to learn. Yes, the potential for crapness is great. However, I feel there's some potential for something interesting being revealed, leading to some stories leading up to, revolving round and/or developing on said certain revelations.

Well, at least I get to find out what house I would be in. (Not hufflepuff, not hufflepuff) I hope the added content is actually good. The site has potential, but it isn't what I expected.

"Oh they have a little shop, I love a little shop!" - The Doctor

Anyway, this is mostly a disappointment. I read over on reddit that it'll include about 18k words extra, but that leaves me more wary than anything else.
