I don't think it would work very well. Eva Green is too known. It would never be Melisandre we were watching, but rather Eva Green as Melisandre. I hope they go for someone relatively unknown.

She'd also have to look hot preggers. Purely for the events at Storm's End.

    It'll be awesome.

/hopefully vague enough to avoid spoiling for non-readers

So during the first season were you watching Ned Stark or Sean Bean? Eva Green certainly isn't a bigger star than Bean. In fact, Bean is probably a much bigger star than her.

To a certain extent, yes. But Bean is typecast in similar roles, so it's less jarring.

But isn't that a case with Green too? In The Golden Compass she plays a witch. In Camelot she plays a witch. In new Tim Burton's film - Dark Shadows she plays, surprise, surprise, a witch. What is one more witch character for her? ;)

I don't care. She'd look horrible with copper-red hair and red eyes.

Eva Green, good for the role or not, isn't going to be playing Mellisandre. The cancellation and her recent availability just happened and filming starts at the end of this month, so I'd bet Mel's already cast. I'm betting on somebody unknown, the same with Brienne. Stannis and Davos will probably be our "names" this year, and Natalie Dormer for a Marg Tyrell is kinda halfway for a role that's not very big right away.

Oh, I agree with you, though I'm not even sure if they'll go with a 'name' for Davos.

Davos is important in the books as a window into what is going on with Stannis. As a character, he isn't overly important. We'll see him giving advise to Stannis and such, and he'll of course be there for bit when you-know-who does you-know-what at you-know-where. Other than that, is there really that much of importance that he does?

I mean that will set him apart from being a minor character compared to Stannis?

Bite your tongue, ser. Davos is awesome. Besides, the TV show doesn't have the inner thoughts from Davos to paint Stannis a bit more sympathetically, so there'll be a bit more retooling to show that relationship in TV form. That'll mean more of both of them, I'd wager.

So I'm rewatching Batman Begins because I should be studying (yes, we've all been there), and I come across this.

Joffrey was in it. He's the kid who Rachel finds inside the fog, near the end of the movie. He also appears throughout the film.

    /genuinely surprised

Lol - I remember seeing that somewhere else. To quote the person who posted it, "Batman should've let Joffrey die."

Well, it's been confirmed that Gwendoline Christie will be playing the part of Brienne of Tarth.

Seems to me that she'll be a good choice, certainly tall enough (6'3").

Also a strong rumour that somebody named Gemma Whalen has been cast as Asha Greyjoy, and the character has been renamed Yara. Apparently so as not to get her confused with Osha. Whatever, I don't really mind that too much. This one hasn't been confirmed though.

Still waiting on Melisandre, Stannis and Davos though.

Because this post is useless without pics...

Gwendoline Christie, with normal-sized woman for reference:

Apparently she's a writer and a stand-up comic as well as an actress. She looks too nice to be Asha though.

So I just watched the entire first season and I. Am. Hooked.

I was wondering if you guys think this is a good deal for the first 4 books? Unless someone wants to sell me some of their spares?

    Amazon has this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Game-Throne...8058/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1310162337&sr=8-5

    or there's these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...ect=true&qid=1310162337&sr=8-13&condition=all

    All cheaper.

The individual paperbacks appear to be on sale as well.

And we have two more actors:
    - Carice van Houten as Melisandre,
    - Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon.

    Two more!
Oliver Ford Davies as Maester Cressen,
    Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth.

I'm happy with Melisandre....well, so long as she has red eyes. :3

I'm happy with them all (They all got the look down, and Liam Cunningham's work on Outcasts verifies him to me as awesome). HBO's done a top notch job so far, IMO, and those disappointed and who were expecting "big names" is kinda unrealistic for multi-season roles - that's why Sean Bean probably signed on, just 'cause it was for one season. Yeesh, is it April yet?

On the topic of casting, I can't held but be disappointed in the choice of Gemma Whalen as Asha. I pictured Asha as all sharp angles & features, sort of like Keira Knightley, I guess.

Also....renaming her Yara due to confusion with Osha is so WTF. :/
