After reading this thread, I am literally scared. I was happy with just bashing it and now I started wondering what is it that people like about it. But I don't think I can watch it, what if I too become a fan:O

On a more serious note Hash, after watching the first bit about Luna, I was surprised by the direction the show went in. I was honestly the 'Friendship Is Magic' point to be made in world-saving adventures every episode instead of the borderline slice-of-life style the show used.

I'm still not sure if I'm disappointed by that or satisfied with it. Still liked it, though.

 

I kind of liked that, actually. Easy to follow, drop and pick back up, not to mention far more believable.

And in a theme-related route, it builds on the title: Friendship is Magic. This is the story of a bunch of ponies learning what it means to be a friend and how a friend acts.

Practically the best thing to teach to kids, the little sociopathic bastards that they are. And who knows, maybe the furry fucks who compose most of the male fans that follow this show will learn how to act normal in public.

 

You haven't yet seen Pinky Pie's hax powers. Totally outclasses Twilight.

Anyone else enjoy how every pony went kind of batshit insane at some point during the show? Rainbow Dash suffers from an extreme lack of confidence, Pinky just goes nut and talks to rocks, Fluttershy goes "YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE ME!" yandere mode.

Ponies are crazy.

Noticed that while reading through the thread. Kinda struck me that that's probably the first time on the internet that someone said that.

 

I shall now commence an epic downloading of the first season. I blame DLP.

 

Oh christ, that image macro directly lead to the schism that pulled the fandom straight into hell.

Ponychan adopted the 'love and tolerance' motto hardcore, to the extent that anyone not showing tolerance to anyone was banned. Someone wrote an account of them molesting the Cutie Mark Crusaders? Tolerate them or banned. Someone wrote a collection of second-person stories featuring romance with various characters of the series? Tolerate or banned. Someone wrote a multi-paragraph rant on how they sold all their pokemon cards to win an auction for some of the original concept art of FiM? Tolerate etc.

(and 'tolerating people even though they're abhorrent' is the exact opposite of the moral given by the show time and time again - Nightmare Moon, Gilda, Trixie, Applejack, Spike and Fluttershy all got whapped upside the head when their personal shit started being detrimental to the people around them)

And because they're the ones most likely to dedicate ridiculous amounts of time to it, they became the face of the fandom. Never mind that /co/, /b/, FiMchan and SomethingAwful (and their splinter forum dedicated solely to the show) all have saner and larger populations - the creepy Ponychan fucks are the ones that run the websites and write in to Wired and email the directors and shit, so when Wired wrote an article on the phenomenon, front and center was a fat, balding manchild saying how the show taught his autistic ass how friendship worked.

Hell, even the founder and admin of Equestria Daily, the news aggregator for even the saner corners of the fandoms, has been linked to pages-long rants about how his bowels don't work properly and make it necessary for him to wear diapers 24/7, and his desperate lust for Trixie hijacks the site on a regular basis.

So the sane fans started dropping their colours and sidling sheepishly out of the community, lest they be tarred with that very same brush, and the rot set in across all the communities. /b/ has more-or-less given up. /co/ threads are like two-thirds porn, a third of that being weird porn (their poop, their hooves, farts, inflation, force-feeding...) and FiMchan is turning into a ghost-town. Ponygoons holds off the tide solely by dint of having an iron-clad 'no creepy' rule, with punishment starting at tempbans and working up from there, and that can be a hard crowd to integrate into if you're not nor have ever been a goon.

In case you can't tell, I'm incredibly pissed off by all of this, because I enjoyed having regular discussions about an adorable show about ponies with grown men and women both ironically and non-ironically.
